Dan Agger - A football thread

Its the LFC Globe lads that are reporting it, people seem to think they know their stuff.
Doesnt really add up though with the comments Agger made.

Well things are a whole lot rosier on the Agger front then. One side has come out with something positive, now the other must do something.
I still can't believe there is not some sort of offer on the table already.
I really can't see us wanting to sell a top player who wants to be here.

If were to give him a contract - and he signed I would be very happy not just because we are keeping him but more because one of Europe's top defenders thinks we are still a top team. Now that gives me an erection. However, until he signs a new contract - there should be no doubt he needs to be sold.

Daniel Agger has made it plain he wishes to stay at Liverpool but admits the final decision could be out of his hands should the Anfield club accept an increased offer from Manchester City.
Liverpool have rejected a £20m bid from the Premier League champions for their stylish defender, who they value at around £27m and who manager Brendan Rodgers, despite insisting he wants to keep the 27-year-old, has conceded could be sold for a "ridiculous offer".
Agger has two years remaining on his current contract but unlike Martin Skrtel, his defensive partner who is in an identical position, is not close to signing an extension.
Rodgers is keen to strengthen his squad before the Premier League opener at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and, as well as a long-standing interest in Clint Dempsey, is pursuing a loan deal for Nuri Sahin of Real Madrid. He is also keen on the Barcelona forward Cristian Tello.
City are reluctant to raise their £20m offer for Agger and speaking in Denmark, where he is preparing for Wednesday's friendly international against Slovakia, the Liverpool defender claimed he had no wish to leave Anfield. "I'd rather stay," he said. "I can't imagine playing for any other club in England but you never know if the club think it's better to sell me."
Agger added: "I know there has been interest from Manchester City, but I don't know what Liverpool are responding to it. I am fine with my situation. The club will have to find out what they want to do. I've heard nothing from them. I'd rather stay but that decision is not up to me at the moment.
"Yes, Liverpool can do a deal even though I have two years on my contract. But no, I haven't changed my mind on the subject. Some times you can end up in a position where it's not your decision. I don't want to be somewhere I am not wanted but I would prefer if they want me to stay. That is my first priority."
The defender's extensive tattoo collection now includes the words of the Liverpool anthem, "You'll Never Walk Alone", but he explained: "The tattoo doesn't have anything to do with the current situation. It's a gesture towards the Kop, the club, the people around the club, the city."

Liverpool are confident Skrtel will sign a new deal and they will resist the advances of City over Agger.

Great news. I'd rather we had a settled defence next season. The more players we have at the club who want to be here and are passionate can only be a good thing.

"I'd rather stay," Agger told Danish website politiken.dk. "I can't imagine playing for any other club in England but you never know if the club think it's better to sell. I'd rather stay but that decision is not up to me at the moment."
He added: "Liverpool can do a deal even though I have two years on my contract, but I haven't changed my mind on the subject.

"Sometimes you can end up in a position where it's not your decision.
"I don't want to be somewhere I am not wanted but I would prefer if they want me to stay. That is my priority."

Whoever decided that Agger should be sold deserves to be shot.

nicely said by Agger... id rather stay is about the extent that loyalty can stretch to when you are at a selling club. Good man Danny.

Agger about his new tattoo (YNWA):

- It has nothing to do with it (a potential move to City). I like what the words stand for. Of course it has something to do with the club.
- The club and the people mean a lot to me, but what words mean literally, is that you just have to stop once in a while, and no matter how black it looks we are never alone. It's also something my kids need to know, says Daniel Agger from national team training camp in Odense.

Agger about his potential move:

- Yes, I have spoken to him (Brendan Rodgers). Anything else would be weird. We haven't talked about the transfer and all that, but we've spoken about the season and what kind of thoughts he has about me and the team, says Daniel Agger.

(Interviewer) So it's not your opinion that it is he who might wish to get rid of you?

- No, not at all. But he's probably not the one who decides such things. I guess it's the owners, as it is with any other company.

(Interviewer) How do you feel about that?

- I okay with it. It's about to following orders (obeying), and I am very good at it. I don't feel the need to know everything that is happening.

One of the arguments, that have been put forward as an argument, is that you'd like to change clubs because you want to win titles. How important is that to you?

- It's about winning. That's how it is in football, and that's how it is for me. It's surely like that for many people outside the football world as well. But as a kid it was like that for me, I wanted to win, and that's how it is for me as a person today. So of course trophies mean something to me and I wouldn't have stayed if I didn't believe that we could win.
I've experienced winning two trophies, and I've experienced being in a Champions League final. Things I would obviously like to experience again, says Daniel Agger with regard to the Charity Shield title and the Carling Cup victory last year and the Champions League final you put for AC Milan in 2007.

I don't get this part. KHL, Hansern help?
Hvis ikke klubben vil have mig, og hvis ikke jeg troede, vi kunne vinde noget, så blev jeg ikke.

If the club doesnt want me, or if I didnt believe that we could win something then I wouldnt stay.

Great. Thanks.
In Swedish this:
Hvis ikke klubben vil have mig, og hvis ikke jeg troede, vi kunne vinde noget, så blev jeg ikke.

Is this:
Om inte klubben vill ha mig, och om jag inte trodde vi kunde vinna något så blev jag inte. Blev = bli = become.

Can't believe I didn't figure it out.

Don't be hard on yourself. Some of the danish dialects are hard to understand!!!😉

*Don't read this KHL*

But speaking at a media gathering ahead of Denmark's friendly against Slovenia, he suggested that he would be interested in a move to the Camp Nou.
The Daily Mailreported him as saying: "There is one club who would make it very difficult for me to stay at Anfield. Barcelona would be great, because they are the best in the world.
"But I am feeling great where I am. I'm with a special club, and I feel I am influencing what happens on the pitch. I am happy to be a Liverpool player."

What's the deal with the contract Agger is asking for? I get that he wants to stay, but is he seeking parity with other high earners? Or is he looking for a get-out clause should we not make it to the CL and the likes of Barca come calling?

I dont know but if we've turned down 20 million + bids there should be a contract on the table to replicate that value if were offering one that would look good to Agger!

Manchester City give up on Daniel Agger and go for Diego Godin instead

This is a complicated one, take a deep breath and read on. About a week ago when the Daniel Agger to Manchester City rumours were at their peak, Liverpool were linked with Atletico Madrid's Diego Godin as a replacement for the Danish defender.
The Merseyside club were linked with 26 year old Godin by swathes of the British media including The Mirror and Daily Mail, but now they won't have to chase him anymore because Marca say Manchester City have gone cold on Agger - due to his fee and desire to stay at Liverpool - and that the Premier League champions are now looking at Godin themselves.
In Marca's paper edition, quoted by TMW, they say that Manchester City have already made an offer for the Atletico Madrid player and are about to enter into serious negotiations for his transfer, moving on from any possible Agger deal.
Diego Godin joined Atletico Madrid from Villarreal in 2010, he's an experienced Uruguay international with over 50 caps for his country. He was part of the squad which won the Copa America last year and he won the Europa League with Atletico Madrid last season.
Marca say he's valued at €10m and Manchester City wouldn't find that fee a problem given what they were looking at for Agger.

If we sell Agger and dont replace him with a new shit hot younger CB, because we need to balance the books for the purchase of Allen and Borini, i will be heavily entrenched in the board and manager out!!

Perhaps it is Man City's way of trying to force down our asking price for Agger
