Just heard part of Villas Boas' first press conference.

His English is immaculate.

Reckons he's in no hurry to sell anyone.

Seems a strange one. As was their offer to Zola before RDM.

With the player power at that club maybe Villa Boas feels he needs a fan favourite and/or player favourite on the training ground everyday. From AVB point of view I think it could be a good strategy but I think it is a big step down for Di Matteo. He only just missed out on the Brum job last week so he was still out there looking for a gig.

I know what you mean, Stew, but that Birmingham job is a right shitty stick.

Good luck to Chris Hughton.

I think Brum offered the job to the right man myself, Hughton is a good manager (at that level) but he does, or he did, want to get back into management. Maybe they offered him loads of cash? Maybe he wants to live in London? Who knows.

I can see the two of them, trying to out-sea island cotton each other, sneaking into each other's hotel rooms and putting snags in the chest, or spin-drying knitwear, the morning of a game.

Kenny can do what he wants.

He's never worn a babseball cap and he's never rocked a jarg leather, so he's untouchable.

Fuck,no.

Villas Boas doesnt come across as being a massive cunt. Is he really the new Mourinho?

He isn't.

That won't stop the press/media labelling him thus.

It's so dreadfully boring and shit.

Why can't he be described as 'The Hot New Portugese Coach' ?

He doesn't look like Maureen
He doesn't act like Maureen
His football is not the same as Maureen's

He *appears* to be his own man and not trying to be a clone.

This 'New Mourinho' stuff is just a lazy way of packaging something/someone for (mainly) tabloid consumption.

It's like all those Argentinian No.10s who were lumped with the weight of being 'The New Maradona'.

I understand why it happens, it just wrecks my head because it's shit.

Its not *that* lazy in fairness. There are a lot of similarities with them...

Both have Bobby Robson to thank for a start in football
Both are from Portugal
Both managed Porto to huge success before departing to take the Chelsea job
Both were young, hungry and ambitious when arriving at Chelsea
Mourhino had AVB as a coach at Porto, Chelsea & Inter

The two guys are very closely linked, a comparison is warranted because most of AVB's career has been spent with Mourhino and now their career paths are close to being identical thus far.

Worrying isn't it. I despise Chelsea, but them now having such a likeable Manager really doesn't help matters.

He manages Chelsea ergo he's a cunt by default.
