There was a lot of talk around Moneyball and FSG's plans to get value for money in the transfer market when they bought the club, so I suppose it's no wonder there has been a little head scratching at the huge fees paid for Carroll and Henderson so far.

Personally I always felt there were too many assumptions being made about what FSG are and aren't about, particularly when it comes to a completely different environment.

So put all that shit to one side for a moment and consider simply finding quality players in the market who you feel are currently undervalued that would be a good fit for us.

Name of player
What you think he'd cost
What you think he might be worth in the future (if relevant)
What makes him a good signing cost aside

marko marin hasn't had a good couple of seasons but he's still quality and we could get him cheapish
12m
hes stagnated but he has the ability to develop and with careful tutelage from one of the games greatest should help develop him
he's got the potential to be boss. plus he's german who are generally a bit boss

Sergio Canales - Cant get a sniff at Madrid i reckon under 10m to pick him up at age 20 and he is class.
Ibrahim Affelay - Same as above.
Bojan Krcjkic - And again.
Gary Cahill - Coyle has already said they would sell 15m would represent value.
Adam Johnson - Anything under 15m would be fine.
Clichy - I dont think hes a worldy or anything but 5m would represent a good buy.

Re: Re: Do it like an old French dude

Gago would be beast, but I'm not certain of his defensive abilities overly

You can pretty much take for granted anyone thats been bought by Real and not used much is undervalued. Other teams have done very well out of buying from them - Robben, Schneider, VDV etc.

Sorry, but I'm not having Gago.

Every time I've seen him, for club or country, I've thought,

"How the fuck has he got himself in that team ?".

I haven't a clue who most of these players are (Mata, M'Villa, Subotich etc...) but I've seen Gago loads and I'm not having him.

Just saying.

Lady Gago isn't very good. I don't think he's rated in Spain and I wouldn't want him here.

I think Maxwell (LB) could be a decent option. Barca bought him for a low fee and with Abidal, Adriano and potentially a new LB this summer, they're well stocked in that department. He's not the greatest defender, but he's a good footballer and for 2M or whatever he could prove to be a good backup / squad player.

If he wasn't such a mardy arse I'd say Royston Drenthe who's out of contract. But he's far too much of an arse.

Re: Re: Do it like an old French dude

Shame about drenthe really. I remember us playing feyenoord in pre season and he ripped us apart

James McCarthy - probably 8 million or so, potential to be one of the best CMs in the premiership in about 18-24 months time
Javi Martinez

Javi Martinez, this kid will be a beast no doubt about it, needs to move to a bigger club to take a step up, not sure what he would cost but surely alot less than Henderson

Thomas Muller, wouldnt be cheap however he would easily fill the Dirk, wide right/auxilary striker role for another decade

Would be happy to see Adam Johnson too but he has already been suggested, half the current spanish u21 team would be a great investment

Martinez would cost more than Henderson I reckon

Ever Banega His contract is runing down in a year (I think).

Would be available for 8-12 million.

I think this thread is a slow boiler, we can add to it as deals are rumoured or completed since its impossible to guess how much someone might go for otherwise.

Just touching on earlier posts, Martinez is about 22/23. He has a big buyout clause so would cost more than Henderson. I would love him but we are stacked now for midfielders it seems.

Muller is a pipe dream, especially if he's being regarded as someone who could be potentially snapped up for being currently undervalued. He was top scorer in the last world cup and adored at Bayern it seems. He'd cost a fortune.

Herrara is a perfect example for this thread. I knew nothing about him until last week but he seems quality, signed for Bilbao for 7.5 million and will be probably worth double that in a years time.

VDV was another great example. He was undervalued at 8 million and could now be sold for double that.

Marin was a great shout. He was the 'next big thing' but Ozil and Muller leap frogged him in the pecking order for the National team. We could pick him up for under 10 million.

Erik Lamela - 8-10mil, highly rated in argentina. Most likely going to Roma though

Interested to see how he'll do in Europe. Looks pacey and good with the ball at his feet. I thought his price was higher than that.

Is Ganso still looking like he'll cost someone a load of cash to bring him to Europe?

On the topic of Argentines, watch out for Ricardo Alvarez. Linked with Arsenal, Inter and Roma. Coming into last yr of his contract with Velez. AML/C. 23 yrs old.

Binny, remember the player I was asking you about Lucas Moura? What about him? I think he plays with Lucas on his shirt and is about 18/19.

Tipped for greatness, soon to be mentioned in the same sentences as Ganso and Neymar. Central Midfielder.

I haven't seen enough of him to judge, ILD. :-[ Apparently plays more on the right. But judging from his build (Height: 1.72m; Weight: 66kg), seems like he would be more suited for the more technical leagues.

Keep an eye on the Fifa U-20 World Cup from Jul 29 to 20 Aug though. (http://www.fifa.com/u20worldcup/news/index.html)

Should feature in it.

You might find this a good read: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/tim_vickery/02/22/brazil.ronaldo/index.html#ixzz1Eo10WFod

And this FootBrazil's video feature on him: http://pitacodogringo.wordpress.com/2010/10/06/footbrazils-video-feature-on-new-sao-paulo-star-lucas-da-silva/

Cool. He was mentioned a few times in the latest edition of 4-4-2 Magazine.

Ex Brazil players we're asked what players can make them great again and the general consensus was Ganso, Neymar and Lucas (not our Lucas).

Haha. Guess what? His wiki profile has this:

Lucas has been described as the next Kaká and has already attracted the interest of Liverpool FC who have first choice on signing him.

:-[

It would be nice to know what Milan value Pato at these days. They did slap a silly price tag on him when Chelsea were sniffing around last summer but there has been the odd whisper of him maybe being allowed to leave now. We should offer them Aquilani + some cash and see if they are tempted.
