Seriously - there was a time when the up and coming players would want to join us but this summer and last season was the first time in my memory where it feels like we are really there now as a mid-table team for real. I know the team did sh*t but when you hear these other teams wanting our players - I just feel a bit weird like what we have just maybe the best we have and what will come will truly be average and no good.

These rumours about us spending XM for a player from Southampton (again !!!) - I mean should they bother going for CL footy when they have us paying such over the top fees for their players. I think gone are the days where we will get another Torres, Suarez or a Xabi. I cannot even see what Klopp can do. We are so f*cking average - what has happened to us after nearly winning the league 2 seasons ago.

I find it a bit strange that we can't compete with Man U regarding signings because they're basically in the same predicament we're in. They do have Mourinho though and he's arguably no definitely a bigger name in the managerial world than Klopp.

Players we can sign?

We can't attract star players, that's Barca, Real, Bayern territory. CL football wouldn't have made any difference.

We should have been able to attract rejects from above mentioned teams, but the lack of CL football has made it a tad bit difficult.

So that leaves us with tier 3 players, the likes of Mane, Vardy, Matip etc. Basically players playing for teams that are over performing or players that are stars in mid-level teams.
We're signing players that hopefully can take the step up to stardom by playing for a more reputable club. A pre Liverpool Suarez.

What makes me a bit sad is that we once were the team that could sign those tier one or tier two players easily when Benitez was leading the team. Too bad we didn't have the financial power to do it then. We would have fucking won the league 3 or 4 times by now.

We need new owners, again. If they don't have the money/aren't prepared to spend it then what's the fucking point?

The money was there, though not well spent. Overpaid for players last couple of seasons. Klopp had better have a good strategy or we'll be having this same thread 2yrs from now

Our net spend isn't ever gonna be anywhere the other top Clubs that's the thing.

I'll bet our net spend will be bigger than 16 of other premier league teams and 30 champions league teams. We'll just end up buying shite though.

Follow cricket lad. The England captain has just become the fastest ever to reach 10,000 runs. Not bad for an opener. 3rd test against Sri Lanka starts on Thursday at Lords if you're interested. 🙂

Problem is United, City, Chelsea etc can afford (no pun intended) to waste money on shite. They have done loads in recent years. We don't have such a luxury simply because we by and large don't splash the cash...or don't have the resources to splash the cash. It's not too difficult to figure out why we've mainly been a 6th-8th placed side under FSG.

If you've been on SCM long enough you should realize that there is no correlation between cash for transfers available and performance or managerial ability and performance. Excluding those two possibilities I'm not sure what needs to change but I'm going to keep studying the undoubted wisdom here.

Please. In a time when they play a lot more tests, against a lot of third-rate nations whose bowlers seemingly graduated from an all-girls' primary school.

It's not easy but there enough good players out there to put together a team capable of challenging for a top 4 spot and actually making it given our resources.

Half the time I think the resources we do have hold us back in some ways as it enables us to make those stupid lazy decisions that unsurprisingly turn out to be pretty bad for us.

Man Utd will pay what ever a wage thats required. Man United spent £300m to finish 5th, I don't want us to do that. We want a hungry squad that will play as a team and players that can brought for £8-10m can if coached right could do the job of a player thats been purchased for £25m.

It will be if we can get ourselves back up to that level, which we can do if we buy the right players meanwhile and improve them sufficiently. For the last quarter of a century that's been a mighty big "if" but, with the little bit of luck that everyone needs, Klopp can turn that around. Here's hoping.

It's faint hope isn't it it though? That we'll be able to get a few bargain signings and they'll help us get into the top 4 regularly, Champions League football, attach better players, have more money that way and then hope to mount a proper Title challenge. Truth is that's a massive ask. Yes Leicester came from nowhere and won the League in a season where the top Clubs failed miserably but that was a freak season and outcome.

We don't have Uniteds match day revenue and all the rest...that's fair enough but it's so fucking disheartening that at the moment the two Club's aren't in too dissimilar a position in terms of probably needing 4-5 first team players min to add to their squad, the two club's are in a new era and under different Management and both are out of Europe. The only difference is they're minted and we're not.

who knows, we're too busy buying southampton players and players from lower prem sides.

Are you moaning about last season's purchase? Get over it. The transfer windows just opened , and we've signed 3 highly rated players. We have a load of loanees coming back too, may be klopp wants to see who deserves the promotion to first team and who needs to be shipped off before throwing money at players .

it's been going on for a bit now isn't it ? - last decent trophy we won was the FA Cup under Rafa. Where are we heading towards I don't know anymore. I honestly did not think we would lose the Europa Cup Final - I can't remember when we lost lost two cup finals in a season - I thought that this sort of shit only happens to the likes of Middlesbrough not us. We even lost a penalty shoot-out this season in a final - do any of you remember the last time that happened ? - fuck no. I have had time to reflect and this season did not have to be as bad as it turned out - and a lot of it is down to Klopp not been tactical enough on the pitch. It's all good being a motivator but I actually think the jury is out regarding his tactics - I mean there was a point in the season where we were not that far from the top, yet we fell so badly and ended up 8th. Yes I know we had injuries but don't any of you think that maybe he is so anal that he forced the high pressing shit on the players too early that they were actually not fit enough to do it or sustain it from one game to the next without being susceptible to injuries. We were so inconsistent this season - it really does put home that the league table does not lie.

Whoever, he signs they need to be able to follow his methods to the letter - and be fit enough - because I don't think many players can actually do or want to do the intensive pressing that he demands especially if they want to preserve their career for the long term. Really don't know how much of this constant re-building we have to do every season. The only good thing that our owners are getting right is the quick turnaround in manager when things are not going to well - because it is the only characteristics of a big club that we have left.

Not bargain signings so much as players who haven't yet become top names but have the ability to do so in the right set-up. It's true that we don't (yet) have as much money as the Mancs, but we have enough to get the job done IF we go about it the right way, and we have a manager who's performed tremendously well in a very similar situation at his previous club. Sure, it's a tough assignment, but so was Istanbul. Keep the faith. 😎

Spot on. If you get away from the history of the Club(which is enormous and still something to brag about to this day) then what are we? A Club that acts like one of the biggest and best around? Does it fuck.

You could write a book about why we haven't won the League in 27 years and counting. From Souness' Managerial tenure to Moores/Parry to Hicks and Gillett to FSG to amateurish transfer dealings etc etc etc. I'm enjoying a bevvy in The Lying Rag like everyone else and it's switch off for the summer time but heads should roll...nothing in football is guaranteed but it's actually embarrassing and shameful a Club of the magnitude of Liverpool go from 6th to 8th most seasons. It's fucking disgraceful and whilst I'm on a doom and gloom rant I can't see how that changes any time soon.

A good question may be, are we capable of finding good players?

Yes we can IF Klopp is allowed to build up the club the way he want, the Dortmund way. We must get in a lot of new scouts, a new DoF, a new sporting director. We must let them and Klopp build up the club. They will know how to do it. FSG clearly don't. Klopp must be the one that decides who will get in.

We must get in people that other clubs respects, that the top class players respects, that the agents respects. Do they respect Ayre? I think you know the answer to that question.

I'm not sure but perhaps it's something to do with money? In that United have a far higher wage bill and spend more on transfers. They're also a richer, and far more successful club than Liverpool, at least based on the last two decades of football.

Apart from that, no difference at all

It won't. I said it from the start that we'll never win the title under FSG. They don't understand football, and more importantly don't have the money required.

I hope they don't think their original moneyball ideas - in which they were simply so much smarter than most other football owners and would win by being clever - have somehow been vindicated by Leicester's fluke, but I have my doubts.

We've got the best manager in charge since Benitez arrived, and I fear we will be struggling to get near the Top 4 again.

We cut Suarez, Gerrard and Johnson from our wage bill I bet we can fit at least one world class salary in there.

Didn't we spend about as much money as Man U on transfers last summer?
