Doing too much?

Don’t think people give Slot enough credit for how good a coach he is, in all honesty.

At Feyenoord, Slot oversaw a massive rebuild after his first season. Signed 13 players and sold 16.
They lost 4 of 6 in preseason, failing to keep a single clean sheet.
Won the league.

We’ll be fine.
They signed 13 players in one window, lol. That’s insane.

If we’re going by the idea that having a settled starting XI gives a side the upper hand, and I’m only talking about the big clubs here, then surely Arsenal ought to be considered a strong favourite this season, no?

Changes to the strongest XI:

  • Liverpool: Around 4 changes expected, left-back, right-back, striker, and attacking midfielder.
  • Arsenal: Just 2 changes, defensive midfielder and striker.
  • Manchester City: Roughly 3–4 changes, goalkeeper, left-back, central midfielder, and attacking midfielder.
  • Chelsea: 2 changes, left winger and striker.

Chelsea could also be a problem, but just like City, I think the WCC will take it's toll.

There's an argument for making the Arse favourites but there are counter-arguments as well. Arteta's still in charge, his shortcomings will continue to get in the way and they're pinning a lot of hope on Gyokeres, when it remains to be seen whether he's Prem title-winning quality.

City will always be dangerous but their new arrivals don't look to me to be of equivalent standard to the players they've replaced.

I find Chelsea the hardest to sum up - that huge squad could be a problem but it didn't stop them winning the Club "World Cup" and humbling PSG on the way. I could see them getting ahead of City and neck-and-neck with the Arse.

All that said, the bookies aren't often wrong and they still have us as favourites.

Last season without doubt was a combination of many things that led us to our title win.

1) I honestly did not think Arsenal had the mentality to go and win it last season because they tried so hard previous 2 seasons and failed to win anything - unlike us when coming 2nd they did not win anything. Their levels dropped off.

2) The other teams like Bournemouth etc. had a very good season, while the others like Man U/Spurs completely dropped off.

3) City had reached end of shelf-life with most of their midfield and Rodri getting injured was a killer for them.

4) Slot had a blueprint from the previous season on how to win this league, by giving the players proper rest and rotation. Also Mo's season, Diaz playing well through the Centre, and Gakpo playing in the right position helped a lot.

Now here is the real twist - think back to last season - we were for the most part bloody 2nd Half FC. Had we not won the title , you lot would be saying that Slot does not know how to setup his team from the start. Now that he has "His" players - I want to see what this "Slot" ball business is that you lot keep harking on about.

Yeah Arsenal's biggest problem is still Arteta. On paper you could make a good case for them winning it but I just don't think he's got what it takes.

I'm more worried about City because of their firepower. It's not an elite squad like it used to be but Guardiola's brilliant at getting an attack functioning well and I just think they'll blow most teams away without having to worry about their shortcomings. Not sure if it'll be enough to win the title but I wouldn't rule it out.

I don't think Chelsea have the same quality as the other three. Plus no pre-season, plus major worries about the keeper - and the coach, tbh.

Pretty much all the front runners have decent enough reasons why they could falter this season. Half wouldn't surprise if some mad 5th option was there or there about this year; borderline Leicester-esque

With Isak and Guehi likely to join making up 8 new signings. The question is how Slot integrates 8 new players with Kerkez and Wirtz showing difficulties adapting to a new team. I have already said it will 5-10 games before we start seeing the best of Wirtz.
I am not sure our defence will be stronger with Guehi because we play a high risk high reward high line.

Arsenal is 3 - Gyokeres, Zubimendi and Eze
I'm having trouble remembering who even plays for Chelsea these days as they buy about 10 players every summer, but out of this summer signings I only see Pedro as a certain starter
Us will surely be 5 with Isak, possibly even 6 if Guehi signs
