England vs Spain (U21s)

It's worth noting that English players have still excelled in Europe despite regular shitness for the national side.

Itfascinates me that Michael Mancienne is not only a regular international at this level but captain of the team and that he's deemd good enough for the EPL by some people. He's a very weak player who was found out at CB so got shifted to midfield where he is even a bigger liability. Hamburg have just flushed £3.5m down the toilet.

To that end, it's unfair to judge Henderson on last night's performance - he did okay but until Rodwell, Lansbury and Sinclair came on late in the game he was playing in a very poor midfield against an excellent Spanish midfield.

Cleverly will never be good enough for United and will end up with a top Championship team, Danny Rose is a full back but Pearce played him at LM, he was totally out of his league, and Mancienne is woeful - so to expect Henderson to perform well is unfair.

I rate Lansbury very highly and Rodwell looks comfortable at this level. Added to that Sinclair is an infinitely superior wide man to either Cleverly or Rose and, I agree with an earlier post, Pearce should be sacked for putting out that original line-up.

If England start the next game; Sinclair-----Rodwell--------Lansbury-----Henderson, then they could do very well in this tournament.

Mancienne is a strange one. I'd have gone with:-

Wellbeck-------Sturridge-------Albrighton
---------Rodwell--------Henderson
------------------Muamba

Muamba's a good call Whitey, I suppose Lansbury and Muamba could be swapped around depending on the opposition in that if it's a game that England are expected to win Lansbury should get the nod as he's more offensive whereas if it's a crucial semi-final or against a top team Muamba would be the call. Anyone bar Mancienne though.

not that I saw the game but even if henderson had an absolute 'MARE, who the fuck cares? I don't give a shit what any english player does in the english national team as I think the set up is shit.

I don't think he had a mare Neil. He showed a lot of intelligence and looks very much a mobile pass and move player. Tactics were garbage though

England actually possess some decent technical players but the people in the management setup seem to refuse that football has progressed from 1966 and still want to play the same lump it and run game.

it's much deeper than the england level, it's grass roots where english kids are taught to win at all costs, get it up front using a few passes as possible and less attention is spent on technique and control. it's a cycle I don't see england breaking out of any time soon.

Didn't catch the game. What role was Mancienne deployed in? DM?

75% of the way through the match Michael Mancienne has 100% passing accuracy from 25 passes.

18 of Mancienne's 25 passes were played to his defenders or goalkeeper.

:-\
