Post Match EPL Bournemouth (A) 3-2 January 24th

i missed today’s shit sandwich but from the motd highlights it looks like we had a classic disastrous start with a virgil mistake and a follow up goal whilst handicapped.

we struggle to recover from those under slot but is the fact we’re relying on gomez his fault, this forum could’ve called that would happen months ago.

slot gurning about having to use the same players so much is hilarious though, he has refused to rotate at every possible avenue.

I genuinely think he's doing a worse job than Hodgson.

At least Hodgson had the excuse of N'gog, Poulsen, Lucas, Konchesky, Jovanovic, Joe Cole etc...

This fella has a title-winning side, added £400m worth of talent to it, and can only muster 5 wins in 5 months.

I'm not even expecting us to win the league. I just expect our manager to be able to get the players to move off the ball, creative chances, run a bit, and occasionally beat the likes of Burnley, Sunderland, Fulham, Leeds, Bournemouth...

“Arne Slot says Milos Kerkez substitution was not injured but he was in the 'red zone' and at risk of an injury so needed to come off either at HT or 60mins.”

So the obvious thing to do in the coming week is to sell Robertson.
Coupled with Gomez injury it would be madness to sell him now.

It isn't changing. The fans booed Owen 20 years ago. McManaman wasn't exactly sent off with well wishes.

We're shite.

I don't know any fans - of any age or generation - in the real world that think he is doing a good job or should stay. And I'm in Liverpool. Not cloud cuckooland watching from my expensive HD stream.
Owen was never booed until he left and returned.

Same with Mcmanaman.

We started very well and couldn’t capitalise.

Dreamy, here's the thing.

In what was was this game different to any of the games earlier in the season, or the games during our run of losses?

We try to dominate possession. We can, but not across a game. When we have possession, we can't really do much with it, we get in decent situations. We make poor decisions and aren't incisive enough. That's like 20-30 mins of a game. We look decent but don't get a goal.

Then... The opposition finally start to put something together. They never actually look good, or brilliant, but they find giant spaces between the lines and get better chances than we've had with alarming regularity. Their passes are long and incisive and find space. We find ourselves with runners being uncontested in 4 on 4 or 5 on 5 situations. We lack any sort of discipline in transition.

We expose our back line and make individual errors. Our heads go. One goal turns into 2.

We get more aggressive chasing some sort of result. We end up in some sort of odd formation where the game is exceedingly open, players are out of position. We throw people forward. In the past it was messes of strikers, but not having that, it's whoever. We look even more frankly exposed at the back. The random assemblage of bullshit we have on the pitch may or may not score.

As soon as the opposition regains any sort of momentum, at all, our heads drop, and we inevitably concede, whether a draw, a loss, or a game killing increase of an existing lead. We also always look tired.

Some of the details change but that is the vast majority of league games.

For a while we were willing to countenance a 0-0 but the second we try to be more expansive from there against a team that is willing to counter and has a couple tools, we are as open as ever.

We are right back where we started.

We aren't accumulating points.

What do you see as proof of some sort of positive direction? I've been trying to believe in this team. I like some of the new players. I can't fucking doing it. They don't believe in themselves. We are awful. The teams we are playing are dogshit. They are beating us without having to do much of anything. The league is awful.

We started well. Not very well. We didn't create lots of chances, we were just in situations that didn't even result in a chance that should have.

If you can't create good chances when you should, and you can't concede good chances when you shouldn't, and you do this consistently, your team is fucked.

I doubt even agree we started well. We just retained possession better than most weeks

I don't know why I'm bothering, but...

18 games. 5 wins. 6 draws. 7 losses.

Shit football for a year.

Struggling to get top 4 in a weak league after spending half a billion quid.

Slow, turgid, insipid football.

Openly admits he has no clue against a low block and direct football.

Awful man manager.

Almost all players have regressed significantly, bar Szoboszlai.

Our options for left wing are a shit Gakpo and a child.

Our options for right wing are a finished Salah and Frimpong - the latter whom he refuses to play there now. Striker is Ekitike who is brilliant but can't play 90 minutes seemingly and Isak who is made out of the dusty remains of Joel Matip.

Bradley is injury prone and out for the season at right back. Frimpong is not a natural right back.

Left back we have an inconsistent Kerkez who's finding his way in the game and is not a guaranteed success. We're about to sell Robertson.

Centre back we have an aging, declining Van Dijk, Konate who got lobotomised at some point during the summer and whose contract runs out in a few months, Gomez who's injured again, out of contract next season and also made from the dusty remains of Joel Matip, and an Italian kid who's never played in the league before and is coming back from an ACL injury.

Our performances dropped off around this time last year. We had enough Klopp-scented fumes left in the tank to see us over the line against an underwhelming Arsenal side.

We were consistently good from August to January last year. Everything else from Slot has been poor. We've been crap longer than we've been good.

You need to invest in a better HD subscription. It doesn't make you big or clever or a superfan to be the only person pointing out contrary opinions. The vast majority of the time you're just wrong.

But yeah, maybe everything is fantastic. We'll sweep all before us in the CL. Let's just pray we avoid PSV and any English side in the knockouts, and hope news of the low block hasn't reached the continent. Happy happy happy. Joy joy joy.
Ok let’s break this down shall we.

Yep results haven’t been great, everyone including me agrees to that. However after the run of 9 defeats in 12 it’s progress in the right direction.

We dropped as low as 12 and are now 4th. We are struggling to get 2nd or 3rd, not 4th and 5th will good enough for CL next season.

It was only the other week many on here claimed England is the best and most competitive league in the world. 5/8 in the CL are English and mostly like will have 6 English teams in the knockout stage.

Yes the football could be more entertaining but during a transition it’s acceptable. And this is one half a season not fucking a year as you claim. Not to mention we’ve had some great displayed sprinkled in.

He doesn’t openly admit he has no clue, that’s just silly talk and countering defensive teams has been a challenge forever and a day.

We are not unique there.

Hmm all players? Wirtz is improving every week, Kerkez the same, Dom has been exceptional, Gravy is 10 times the player. Hugo looks better every week. The reality is he inherited an aging squad that needed reinvestment after years of underinvestment.

We lost Diaz, Jota, Trent, Nunez while VVD, Robbo and Salah are a year older.

We’ve lost players to big injuries in Isak and Bradley.

We had the predictable slump after a title win that every team suffers (bar the cheats).

Im not the only fan on here never mind the only fan in general that thinks the over the top negative viewpoint is too far that way.

And to be crystal clear yet again, I never once said everything is fantastic. Far from it. Do we have enough quality to beat anyone on our day in the CL with a bit of luck? I think so.

Do I think Slot is the long term answer? Fuck knows. Maybe not. Do I think he’s earned the right to show us? Absolutely.

A run of defeats? No wins in 5.

Glimpses of what we'll look like? What? We've looked awful in practically every single game.

If we give him until the summer, we will finish midtable. We will be midtable by February.
I think we’ve looked better going forward in the last half a dozen games without it converting into wins.

I agree with this.
