Post Match EPL Bournemouth (A) 3-2 January 24th

We absolutely need another midfielder, we absolutely need a RB and going in to anothrr season hoping that Ekitike might play left wing is insane. Gakpo isn't good enough, Rio is a kid and Ekitike isn't a left forward.
Oh Rio is a kid now? Weren't you one of those vociferously claiming he should be starting / playing 30 mins a match?! Or am I mixing you up with someone (by which I mean half the forum) else?

Gakpo was good enough when we won the PL though wasn't he? I find him frustrating but there's a) no denying his goal contribution and b) he's not a priority when we have a lot of players who can play there even if not ideal.

I find it odd.

So he's saying he either couldn't communicate a simple instruction to his team in 8 mins or they ignored him.

I'm wondering if it's the latter too. When Slot's appointment was first announced I was struck by Virgil's distinctly lukewarm response ("Well, he's the best coach in Holland") and some of yesterday's display made me wonder if some of them simply can't be @rsed to play for him any more.

Either Ali or Marm will decide to go in the summer of 2027. Ali due to age/wanting a new challenge or Mamardashvili wanting to be number one.

Van Dijk will leave after his contract. He will bugger off to the states or somewhere.

We need a DM. Mac and Gravy doing a job isn’t a future plan. Plus Mac has been woeful and we could be looking for an exit.
Those are literally ALL assumptions that could have alternative paths. You'd have to bank on at least 50% not coming to pass.

Ok let’s break this down shall we.

Yep results haven’t been great, everyone including me agrees to that. However after the run of 9 defeats in 12 it’s progress in the right direction.

We dropped as low as 12 and are now 4th. We are struggling to get 2nd or 3rd, not 4th and 5th will good enough for CL next season.

It was only the other week many on here claimed England is the best and most competitive league in the world. 5/8 in the CL are English and mostly like will have 6 English teams in the knockout stage.

Yes the football could be more entertaining but during a transition it’s acceptable. And this is one half a season not fucking a year as you claim. Not to mention we’ve had some great displayed sprinkled in.

He doesn’t openly admit he has no clue, that’s just silly talk and countering defensive teams has been a challenge forever and a day.

We are not unique there.

Hmm all players? Wirtz is improving every week, Kerkez the same, Dom has been exceptional, Gravy is 10 times the player. Hugo looks better every week. The reality is he inherited an aging squad that needed reinvestment after years of underinvestment.

We lost Diaz, Jota, Trent, Nunez while VVD, Robbo and Salah are a year older.

We’ve lost players to big injuries in Isak and Bradley.

We had the predictable slump after a title win that every team suffers (bar the cheats).

Im not the only fan on here never mind the only fan in general that thinks the over the top negative viewpoint is too far that way.

And to be crystal clear yet again, I never once said everything is fantastic. Far from it. Do we have enough quality to beat anyone on our day in the CL with a bit of luck? I think so.

Do I think Slot is the long term answer? Fuck knows. Maybe not. Do I think he’s earned the right to show us? Absolutely.

It would be hard not to see SOME progress since those 12 games. We played Leeds twice, Sunderland at home, Fulham, Bournemouth, Burnley, West Ham, Wolves, Spurs with 9 men etc etc. It was an extremely favourable run and he's done fuck all with it, scraping draws against some utter bilge. We should not be hovering around Brentford and the likes. Any semi-competent manager would have picked up a lot more points during this favourable run, and we'd still be in somewhat of a title race despite the 9 losses in 12. As I keep saying, 5 wins in 18 games. No wins in the last 5. Hardly progress. The only reason we're not 12th again is because everyone else around us is also shit. 21 points from 18 games is genuinely relegation form.

The league is more competitive. It doesn't necessarily make it better quality. Arsenal are walking it without a striker and are only able to score goals from corners. The middle teams have improved, but the relegation threatened sides are shocking, and the top 5 or 6 sides are significantly worse than anything I've seen in my time watching football. Did you see Walcott asking Rooney about this current Arsenal side against his United side from 2008? Rooney scoffed and said United would batter them. He's not wrong. The Liverpool 2008 side would beat them too. The Chelsea side would wipe the floor with them. It's just coincided with poor sides all across the continent, which is why the English sides are doing well in Europe. As bad as it is in the Prem, it's worse out there. Hence why McTominay, Hojlund and Billy Gilmour are tearing it up in Italy.

You're going to disagree with the year shout no matter what. Our performances tailed off significantly around this time last year. Results lagged behind. We got over the line, but we didn't play well. If you want to ignore that, that's on you. You and the board, it seems.

With regards to these "great performances" sprinkled in, do they wash away months and months of shite? A couple of games where we've not been the norm of slow, ponderous retards counteracts the crap? Not for me.

He does admit he can't handle a low block. That's just a straight up lie on your part. He says it every week.

Wirtz wasn't his player last year - and was better than he has been this season. Same for Kerkez. I said Szoboszlai is the exception. Gravenberch has been poor this season. He was good last season... Aka regressing.

It's not a slump. It's a collapse. And it doesn't happen to every team. The Arsenal, Chelsea and United sides of the past didn't just drop into midtable after winning the league once. Chelsea did it one year, but it's pretty rare. It's usually us. Maybe because we fly off to Ibiza when there's still games left to play.

I think you're one of maybe two people on the site who think he should see out the season. That says a lot.

He had his chance after the 9 losses in 12. He went on the world's most uninspired unbeaten run which included 2 draws against Leeds, Burnley, Fulham, Sunderland... He had his chance to turn it around. We've gone from plummeting down the league to gradually sinking. Woohoo.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't boo him either. I went to the game against Burnley and applauded the team off. I don't believe in booing them. But the fact that many are in this fanbase when we don't traditionally do that speaks volumes.

Alisson will be 35 and the end of his contract in 2027. If he stays Mamardashvili isn’t sticking around just like Kelleher had to move. 100% happening.

Van Dijk will be 36. He won’t be offered anywhere near his current deal and we can actually see his ability declining in front of our eyes. It won’t reverse. 75% he is going to leave.

Huge amounts of the site wanted a DM last summer because Gravenberch is not a 6. He is also being run into the ground. I expect him to stay but he needs to have support in the squad if he is to be used as a 6. But Mac is no way good enough to play in a DM role. He was best being more box to box and that was the second half of last season. It’s been rumoured he wants to try Spain too. 95% chance we need a DM.

My position has always been "if he's the backup, play him". I was always adamant he shouldn't have been the backup as he was a kid, but if that's the plan then fucking do the plan.

Feel free to look in transfer threads.

And was gakpo good enough? Salah dragged us to a title and Diaz was better than gakpo. Gakpo has certain games he can do well and certain games he can't. He cannot play against a low block, And plays better when it's open.

The fact that every thread I'm making a sarcastic comment of "well we can't play Rio because we're protecting his development and not blocking his minutes", which paraphrased the line trotted out by journalists in the summer for us not buying a LW, SURELY MADE IT KNOWN MY VIEWS ON THIS MATTER

So I don’t have to listen to the most negative one sided forum gleefully create another sack watch thread. This place lacks any sort of rationale balance at the best of times but fuck me this season takes the cake.

You’ve been offered plenty of time to offer any nuance to “but he won the league” and haven’t or won’t

Yes I watched every minute and desire, fight and concentration can not be absent to win a league title.

Stop talking rubbish and digging a hole.

You said we were shite and now say results were good not great.

We’ve been poor this season, no doubt about it and there a host of reasons for that but trying to claim we were shite for the second half of last season is revisionism at its worst.

It’s like you haven’t lived through 29/30 years where our second half of the season wasn’t good enough.

We were by far the best side in the league last season and won it comfortably. You don’t do that by being shite for 5 months.

What hole am i digging?

I stuck my neck out, shared an opinion that I thought we were playing shite, had no system, players looked clueless and that it was only going to get worse. The players looked clueless more clueless, still no system, still playing shite.

There is no future for Slot at Liverpool, and rightly so.

Just caught up.. Dreamie is the one who still thinks Wirtz is a waste of money, despite being one of our best players over the last 2 months. His opinions are all over the place. Should just leave it at that.

We 100% need 2 first team centre backs and a raw talent.

He must be a wind up. Or genuinely have no clue about football. Either way, it's pointless to engage. Yet I keep doing it for some reason.

Under Klopp, the players’ movement was so structured you could practically draw it on a board. Everyone had clear instructions, everyone knew their position and their job. Klopp understood both the strengths and the weaknesses of his players — Slot clearly doesn’t.
It looks like Slot gives certain players total freedom — Wirtz being the prime example — to play wherever they feel like. He seems to believe that the star players will just figure things out on their own.
As a result, you constantly see players getting in each other’s way: Gakpo, Wirtz, Kerkez, Jones all standing five meters apart, occupying the same spaces.
Sometimes it genuinely feels like there are no defined positions and no clear responsibilities. And that’s not a player problem — that’s a coaching problem...

Our manager don't seem to understand that the most important position in the team is the center midfield, if you control the middle of the pitch you have a good chance of winning the match , the only 2 midfielders we have who are smart enough to control the play and speed of the game are Gravy and Macca , we needed more these type of players rather than spending so much on Isak and Kirkez.
Agree that Macca can be one of those players. He has not been for most of the season, but much more like it the last few games.

21 points from the last 18 games.. How is this still even in the realms of he's earned the time to turn it around mindset? That is basically relegation form.. He lost the that goodwill after the forest home game let alone the psv one. 4 pts from the last 5 games and some people still feel that he's still deserves time.
His tactics have destroyed the players confidence at this stage and we need some injection of something different as this shit isn't going to work.. This crap that we were good for the first 25 odd minutes is bullshit just because we had all the possession because we were doing fuck all with it
