Match Thread EPL - Bournemouth (H) - Friday 20:00

Whatever you say about him, you can't deny that footballing quality. That was such a brilliant finish. Literally the only way he could finish that chance, and he finds it under the most intense pressure.
And you cannot deny his passion that he seems to feel for the club.

Missed the pregame YNWA and DJ tribute. Saw it now on YouTube. Powerful stuff. For the new players, it must have been awesome inspiring and for the existing players, it must have been really hard.

Impressive game all things considered!

I enjoyed the moment when Frimpong was defending and pretty much jump on the guys shoulders. The attacker kept going, no free kick either.

It was slightly concerning.

Not enough time to debrief that but need to say how MADE UP i am that @localny witnessed that victory with his son. The crowd was epic at times. What an experience!

OH WE CAN HEAR THEM CRYING IN TURIN

Thanks Brizzle! You’re very kind! What a night. We were shocking at the back and lacked the little touches in their box but still what a win. I told my son that Chiesa always has a little something special in him. Thinking back to the Carabao cup final - he doesn’t need many chances.

Clearly not our best performance but six goals on our second visit to Anfield and the young fella is buzzing. He’s Deffo hooked even more!

Then back for a good Indian at half 11 at night in town in honor of Federico and to put a few pounds on in his honor! ! All is right in the world!

On the whole a very disjointed performance, our midfield is a serious worry (and as good as Grav is, he alone won't sort this fucking kamikaze shit out).....not a defensive brain cell in any of their heads. I counted 243 giveaways and 74 fouls between them. Our back line were being put under pressure time and time again. Semeyo was single handily taking the piss. We're 2-1 up and we've got Endo, Robbo and Gomez in their box, are you having a laugh?

Fuck Isak, fuck Rodrygo, fuck Guehi, fuck yer ma.

Get Angelo Stiller or Adam Wharton in now.
To sit on the bench?

His awareness to drop off and not try and win the header so he was could smack in any knock down. A truly fantastic finish. Felt a decisive moment even this yearly in the season.

Well what a fucking first game of the season that was.

Ultimately as defending champions playing at home the main thing was 3pts and we did that.

It’s clear we are going to take time to bed in the new players have find our playing style and rhythm. If we can keep winning or at least in touching distance of the leaders while we do that we’ll have a great chance of retaining the title.

While losing a 2 goal lead was shit, the manner in which we fought back to win it at the death will give everyone a huge lift and dishearten City and Arsenal.

The two big things for me is how important Gravy is. He was arguably our player of the season pre Xmas last year and absolutely monstered the opposition so I’m not worried about our openness.

The second is that today we had four different goalscorers, 3 different assisters and already it feels like we won’t be relying on Salah to dig us out (even though he did again by playing in the killer ball that led to the third and scored the 4th)

Becker - Solid and unlucky on the first, blinded sided on the second with little else to do. Almost had an assist after a superb early long ball to Salah.

Frimpong - Thought he had a very good debut defensively. Breath of fresh air compared to Trent. Put in a heap of tackles, nipped in a few times and linked up well. Loved him jumping on his opponents back and not getting glided past. We were notably weaker when he went off.

Konate - looked nervous, off the pace and a bit headless. Hopefully the new signings and the return to fitness of Gomez will spur him on.

VVD - much improved from last week but still finding his feet. His passing broke the lines more than any other player in our team and it’s such an important part of his and our game. Should have had a goal but overall solid and couldn’t fault him for either goal.

Kerkez - definitely finding his feet and looked like the occasion got the better of him to a degree. I think he’ll improve and is nowhere near a Moreno x2. His pace is a huge asset but he got caught out of position time and time again.

Macca - great that he could start but he lost the ball a number of times and was sluggish. Improved as the game went on and throw himself about a lot which I always love. Made the first goal, had a good crack at goal too.

Dom - easily our second best player in the first half, industrious, full of running and his passing for the most part was great. Second half was a different story and he cost us at times. Hopefully we’ll be able to rotate him this season.

Wirtz - I’ll give him leeway as it was first game but fuck me all of my concerns were playing out until he was rightfully hooked. He was lightweight, easily dispossessed and misplaced passes time and time again. Hopefully we’ll see more of what we saw in the first half of the charity shield and less of this as he pretty much stank the place out. Unlucky to not score second half.

Gakpo - much improved display and scored a worldie. Diaz was a far better player but Gakpo is a far better goalscorer and he showed it today. Thought he moved the ball quicker today and is ready to make the left side his.

Salah - started brightly and almost scored, linked up well but also gave it away a few times as he always does. Quieter second half with a couple of half chances before his play led to Chiesa’s winner and his own goal was sensational. Another impactful display for our greatest ever premier league goalscorer!

Hugo - A fantastic debut where he could have had at least two goals if could head the ball. His touch, awareness, speed, passing, strength and defensive work were all brilliant. Took his goal well. If we don’t get Isak we just need him to stay fit and only go after the league.

Endo - must have thought wtf, I’m getting 30 mins! Out of place at RB but solid at DM. Didn’t do much wrong except getting caught ahead of the ball once.

Robbo - his lack of pace was clear for their second but otherwise solid.

Jones - made a nuisance of himself in their box and helped apply pressure to lead to the third and would have had a tap in 4th if Salah crossed before scoring himself. Don’t understand the hate he’s getting on here. He was sublime at times last season and played his part.

Gomez - great to see him back and didn’t put a foot wrong. Will be huge if he stays fit.

Chiesa - perfect contribution and what a celebration, keep him for the song alone. Haven’t seen the fans bounce like that outside of a title winning game in a long time.

Slot - work to do but his subs ultimately won us the game so he gets a pass.

YNWA!

You mean like the way you did last Sunday when you linked a missed penalty to Gaza to make fun of it, you horrible hateful sanctimonious prick?

Shame on you.

And now go fuck yourself.
Haha, that was you and all you. Was an obvious reference to your previous pathetic post and got called out for by multiple posters on here. You really are an Ass Holle of 6CM.

I don’t get the flag burn reference? Are you saying because you got called out on your hateful post about Salah and Gaza, out there burning flags as well? That is some jump and some would say there is a word for a pathetic person like you. Did I suggest you are sat in your bed room doing Elon like Hand gestures ?
You and the cunt who wheeled out last night have a lot in common it seems.

Pretty poor on Wirtz there as expected given the attitude towards the signing.
He covered the second most ground after Szobo, created the second most chances and could have scored and assisted a goal.
Lost the ball 3 times but misplaced more passes then normal.
All in all a decent debut while he gets used to the pace of the PL. The individual quality is there, as we saw at Wembley, and he was just about everywhere last night.
Nerves, frantic pace etc. No issue with him whatsoever. An absolute star in the making for us.

The lightweight comments are just stupid in all honesty. You can se that he isn’t in that category. He won 3/8 ground duels. Has to improve in that area but that will come as he gets used to the pace and intensity.

I thought his final ball was light weight when it mattered. Also, pushed off the ball at times. He was involved and able to break through the lines, promising but plenty to improve on.

Agreed. He didn't hide or shy away from anything.
I think its easy to forget how young he is as well. People talk about giving Harvey Elliott time to develop, but Wirtz is even younger than him.

Watching the goals back from last night. The crowd noise and bounce on 3-2. Wow, that was something.
Imagine being Leoni sitting in the stands for the first time and soaking up all that. Fantastic.

I felt that Wirtz was missing strikers who run in behind the defence. Many times he was in situations and you could see he was expecting a runner into space that didn’t come.

These are the types of runs Diaz Jota & Nunez would make. Salah & Gakpo much less so. Hopefully they’ll all get on the same wavelength soon. I am not too concerned

The thing that concerned me over it individual play was our balance and shape, especially off the ball.

Our weakness is that we can be overloaded down either flank easily. Last season Dom was very good at adding a body to the cause with Gravy & Macca doing the work that Slot doesn’t ask our wingers to do. This then leaves gaps in the box as we have less markers.

With Wirtz in the side we have more naturally attacking AM, and so i feel we need to work out how we deal better with being hit down the flanks.

I’m not usually worried about us being hit on the counter, but the two yesterday both came after we subbed two rapid full backs for arguably our two slowest players. Gomez on for Frimpong would have made sense, and maybe his speed at the back might have helped on that first goal.

Both counter attacks came from half arsed passing in the final third too, which is something we did a lot last year too. No intensity and focus.

All in all - two things that wound me up no end last year were on display again

1. We go into games assuming we’ll get 20 chances and it feels like we just waste too many opportunities through lack of true “i must score this” mindset

2. Our opponents know our weaknesses and we aren’t yet addressing them. It’s going to be a season of vibes and high energy games. I can’t see many teams letting us dictate the play as they can see we are easily rattled
