Post Match EPL Burnley (H) 1-1 January 17th 15:00

Evidence is we play our worst football and are most vulnerable after we have a lead. We change our tactics completely, stop pressing, and sit back and let the other team play around our midfield until they find a pass (like today) or get a set piece in a dangerous area and score.
That is correct. Apart from you writing that "we change our tactics completely." That is kinda not correct. "We change our tactics completely" implies that happens as a result of a decision. But Slot and "we" do not decide that. What happens is that our weaknesses start surfacing including our weaknesses having to do with those I wrote about above.

What probably happens is that once we have a lead the players relax and stop fighting as vigorously as at the start of matches. They also lose/drop focus. And then problems and problem areas surface. And this Liverpool team has many problem areas both up front and at the back. VVD has been problematic this season. And so has Konate. And so have our left backs. And then we have new strikers. Are not good at set pieces. Have injury problems and don't have many players to bring on. ..

I did.. did you?

Both were merely ok.. not great.. ok.

Against Burnley you need to be better than ok.
Yes, I watched.

Horrible result however much of the play was better than I've seen us produce for a while. I'd rate the full backs as a bit better than "ok" and certainly of a standard not requiring them to "hang their fucking heads".

That's hysterical nonsense.

If we had converted the penalty and not conceded, people would have a different view of the individual performances. Two moments that changed the game. I don't think it was a great performance, but outside maybe two or three players it was pretty good(obviously far from brilliant). We just seem to lack the belief or confidence to get the right results.

If you are happy with that performance against Burnley.. we had 30 shots, but about 25 were pot shots from distance.

My 8 year old son and I got to the ground and had an absolute mare with the tickets and got knocked back. Probably something to do with me being a technophobic spaz.

Unfortunately, the ground and ticket staff were absolutely lovely and sorted us out with two different tickets, so we still got in to watch that shite.

Didn't say I was happy.

I remember us playing through and around them and being in their penalty area more than recently.

I don't remember "25 potshots".

It was excruciating watching Burnley waste away the time remaining and its a really disappointing result but let's not go overboard on slagging players.

In terms of the game itself, it was one of them... It can happen. You can miss a load of chances. We missed a pen and had two cleared off the line. They didn't really create anything, but scored one on one of the few forays into our box.

HOWEVER, if we hadn't been served up shite all season and for around 12 months now, I would take that aforementioned lenient view. But as a result of our slow, ponderous build up play (besides Wirtz and occasionally Szoboszlai) and our cowardice without the ball, you get what you fucking deserve at the end of the day.

It's slow and timid with the ball, passing sideways sloooooowly for the sake of it, and it's cowardly without the ball. We don't press, and it only takes a couple of passes to break the lines against us and they're through on the attack. We don't put a foot in either. And what the fuck was with moving Frimpong from the wing. He's been great there, but no, the fraud moves him. Gakpo on the other side? Keep him there and move Wirtz to accommodate teacher's pet.

We all want him gone bar a few resident loons. We're in danger of not qualifying for top 4 though with him still being here.

We're going to miss out on cl places if he stays. I'm confident on that. Chelsea and United are not far behind us and both of them looked much improved with a new manager bounce

Or manager cannot set up a defence.

Infuriating result. We created more than many expected against the low block but didn’t take our chances and with this defence we are always capable of conceding at least one.

Get Salah back in the team ASAP.

I actually do think our tactics change when we have lead. I think Slot must tell them to slow it down and play more safe. Our players have spent most of their careers doing the opposite of that, so I think it must be the coaching.

It happens too consistently and regularly and across the board when we take the lead to be anything other than the plan. Watching us gallop back in fear and form a flimsy low block whenever fucking Burnley crossed the halfway line is the absolute antithesis of what this club used to be.

Really annoying to see us playing on the frontfoot in the first half and taking the lead only for us to come out to the second half and let them have the ball and attack us.
Cowardly coaching.

Brilliant! Salah to the rescue against low blocks. He did so well against them in the first half of the season.

I watched us flow forward on the break a few times, slow down to hold onto the ball and then allow them to get 9-10 bodies back to park the bus and find no way thru. It’s so bizarre.

We are risk averse the whole game
We score and become turtles in our shell
We concede
We bring on Fede, Rio and put 7-8 people up front to try and score with abandon.
But we pass it sideways and don’t really get it in the danger areas.

Yeah, we are doing so well without aren’t we. CL here we come… can we be anyworse with Salah? , last game in PL we won was against Wolves at home and was that like a month ago maybe?. What is this obsession with excusing our poor play on low blocks? It isn’t low blocking that cost us. Burnley didn’t get a draw from low blocking, they are 19th and conceed for fun. Fulham got a draw and don’t play low block anymore than we do and same for Arse and Leeds.
We are crap attacking wise and have no structure to our play. We don’t press now and nor do we control games, no matter how anyone spins it right now and not going to get CL with current form. Play Mo through the Middle till end of season, Etikete on left and probably Frimpong on right. Tell them to cause chaos and let us enjoy some football. This stability low risk stuff is zero sum game.

Last time he played we won. Facts are we have what, 4pts from possible 16pts against 3 dredges of PL included. Do you think draws and stability is any better now?

Struggle to give a shit either way until Arne has fucked out this club.

Facts are we're shit and Mo isn't going to make a shred of difference to this team, we were worse before he left.

Not facts, that’s just your view. How are we better now? One player can’t be the issue why a team loses. It’s convenient excuse. We have drawn last 4 with 3 at home. If we had won 2 of them then we would be better off points wise with Mo, we have nothing to lose and our options on bench is non existent currently anyway.
PPG it’s 21% better without Salah but it’s 3 Wins and 4 Draws and you can compare some of the teams we have played in that as that would add context on potential difficulty of these teams. We have been crap attack wise as a whole and better defensively but that is against teams who lack quality so the whole defensive stability is over stated.
