Post Match EPL Crystal Palace (A) 2-1 Saturday 27th Sept 3pm

Isak hadn't trained with the first team at the Toon for a while before he arrived at LFC though. I'm not sure his current lack of fitness is hard to understand against that background.

Yeah I'm talking about the 2nd goal, as that's why people are ripping kerkez.

And palace had some very good chances in the 2nd half, as we were shite.

A deserved loss, and hopefully a wake up call for slot on some players

Yeah Kerkez didn't deserve that

Because personal trainers and fitness schemes only exist in professional football training pitches?

Or he's got a goldfish memory and can't remember training sessions to emulate?

I appreciate the not being on the same wavelength as other players, but actual fitness? Nope. Sorry, not buying it.

He's not come back from an ACL, or something that's hampered his ability to maintain appropriate cardiac levels. He went on strike. He can still fucking train

Oh I'm fucking fuming with Ekitike, but as you say it's done to death

I don't get how Isak isn't fit though? He's not come from an injury.

I just don't see how his passiveness will help this team.

What do you mean? You know the reason. No preseason. Are we just going to pretend that's not a big deal anymore because we're pissed off and want someone to blame?

We're basically having to baby him into games bit by bit and will be for another month. We're lucky he didn't get injured today like Wissa did, should be grateful for that rather than annoyed he didn't play well.

If he plays shit in November onwards then yeah that's a valid issue to criticise.

Right so you are just gonna pretend it's not an issue then, fair enough. Despite Slot clearly stating he can't be starting or playing extensively precisely because of that reason, something we all accepted as totally reasonable and to be expected until about half an hour ago.

Let's agree to differ then. Personal trainers and fitness schemes are fine and dandy but IMO a player using them in isolation, as Isak was, just isn't going to get the same level of benefit as full-on participation in first team training with other quality players around him.

Slot managing minutes I'm fine with.

Isak fucking ghosting entirely, less so.

He's low down on my critique list, but the fact no one had mentioned a single thing about it, I found weird

It's not just the difference in training, it's the lack of matches. These are effectively his preseason matches right now. I'm not an expert but you probably only have to be off it by 10% sharpness or so to lose like 50% of your competitiveness when you step up to PL level. You only have to look at how leisurely preseason games are to see the extent of the problem.

That defeat had been coming to be fair.

Chance to reset. No albatross of unbeaten around our neck. Palace are an awkward side to play against.

If I'm honest, we deserved nothing from the game.

All correct. The second half flattered us. Realistically we should have been at least 3 down going in to half time

Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatinggssssssssssssss time & some of these ratings pain me but we have to keep it truthful and as accurate as we can.

Alisson 8 - MOTM.

Bradley 1 - Pathetic and weak.
Konate 2 - Brainless fart.
Virg 5 - For his standards, shite.
Kerkez 3 - Pointless

Grav 5 - See Virg.
Mac 2 - Maybe he should switch to netball or some other physical less sport, fucking useless.
Dom 6 - The only outfield player who started that played decent.

Salah 0 - Fuck off Mo you shithead.
Isak 3 - Offered very little besides poor finishing.
Wirtz 3 - Same as Isak.

Gakpo 4 - Suppose he did ok to help change the flow in our favour 2nd half but no sure how much I'd put that down to Gakpo.
Frimpong 2 - Shambles. How can a professional footballer be so poor at passing.
Jones 4 - Remove that contract offer and get him gone in the summer. He's average and always has been.
Chiesa 7 - Inches away from scoring a beauty, ended up scoring with a scruffier effort but he showed more in his cameo than our entire front line did first half, shame he'll never start a PL/CL game of significance.
Rio - NA

Slot 0 - Times like these where I miss Klopp profusely.

Bradley didn’t have the best of a performance, but a chunk of that is he’s expected to do Mo’s attacking job. I bet Bradders had more touches in the final third than Salah. Then they just lump the ball to the gaping hole at the back and watch Konate either shit himself or try have a battle with whoever receives the ball. Then Mo has no responsibility to get back and help. The whole contribution he made today was clearing a possible goal for Slobby and trying to handball it for our goal.

Fuck me. Just come back (I was the official photographer for a metal band gig this evening), seen the score and read the Post match comments. I have to put my hand up - I haven't missed a minute up until this game. It's on me. Bastards.

Its match minutes that get you match fit. Isak has played half an hour for Sweden and about seventy minutes for us. In terms of tiredness, all the stars had the week off but then went to the ballon d'Or, while Palace were working hard on the training ground.

Think the new signings will improve. The side looks great on paper but hasn't clicked yet. Mo not looking his old self is part if that imo.

We've got away with it by showing up for games and some quality but todays sloppy attitude, lack of desire and no clinical finishing wont win you anything.

I didn't see the game, but it sounds like we were fucking dreadful and deserved to lose.

It might be what we need. The performances have needed a reset for a while, with late goals masking some very average performances.

I think uncharacteristically for Slot, it was his lack of ruthlessness that cost us today. He tried to come up with a clever formation to accommodate Wirtz and Isak, but against an opponent as good as Palace this has backfired badly. We were killed down the right flank in particular, but I don't know if I would completely put it on Bradley - he is simply not a type of a full-back who can shut down his flank. Szoboszlai is better at that and once he replaced Bradley from the beginning of the 2nd half Palace hardly created anything - but then Slot shuffled the pack again to bring in Frimpong who I thought absolutely stunk the place out and killed much of our attacking momentum. I am sure if this was a Champions League final, Szobo would have started and stayed at RB the whole time.

That said, RB was only one of many problems today. When so many players are off it all at the same time, you have to look at the tactics and the game plan as the main culprit.

Did Slot get booked for stepping outside of his technical box, yet Arteta can spend an entire game outside his and receive nothing, not even a warning

Moaning about going for a win when he wanted a draw? He can get to fuck with that attitude. Draws kill title hopes. I’d rather risk it for 3 than settle for 1.

He's moaning about going for a win when there wasn't enough time to go for one, not the idea in general.

We have struggled to play a good 90 minutes for a long time now under Slot, he won the title with Klopps squad but with 5 new additions he is struggling with many aspects of the game. Hard game in midweek and away to Chelsea next Saturday might make fans question Slot if we don’t get results.

Most managers would struggle a little with a squad rebuild. Let alone an overnight one.
The guy won the league at an absolute canter last year. We were on the beach with many games to go.

I think that earns him some trust.
I also think winning six out of your first seven games (most of which were tricky ties) and being top of the league should also allay fears for most folk.

It’s not quite panic button time

Yeah it's really coming to the crunch for Slot now. Hasn't won a title in over 4 months.
