Post Match EPL Leeds(H) 0-0 Thursday January 1st 17:30

I thought this was a key game for a season.
Im extremely let down.
The players didnt show up today - too slow, too unsure, no urgency.
Thats on them and the manager.
Wirtz was extremely disappointing. Bad performances i can accept- theyre human - but the lack of effort and cowardice? That is a huge concern.
I dont get the point of no crosses into the box when you have no luck passing through a team.
This was an embarrassing result because the team didn't seem interested enough.

Not blaming them - but how is the foul on Chiesa at the end of the game not a foul? He went down, like Hugo should have, and if was nothing? After a 5 second var check? Huh? Bent.
We crossed in a few beauts and no one was there to finish. Etitike too often offside. We had Stephen Warnock contradicting himself as commentator which just added a cherry on top of a dog turd performance. That wasn't a foul, then same with leeds and they get the call and he's "oh clear foul" for the exact same push. And a ref whose blind.

Wirtz haven’t been in training since the Wolves game. Quite easy to see that he wasn’t 100% today. Shouldn’t have started.

On the positive side, we are hard to beat, we are winning duels, we are defending well, and we were tenacious and trying.. I guess I can give Arne a few games to get some attacking fluency going again, but he's running out of time before the next crisis, which comes when you can't score.

We are just SOOOOO slow in transition. No one is breaking forward fast

Except score or assist... Maybe he'll kick on, he did look good, and its early days with him, but playing well isn't enough.

Wasn’t it Frim’s cross to Hugo who missed an open goal?

Frim is nicely two footed making him unpredictable. Hes got 3 assists so far. 2 in the 2 games before this. Should have been 3 in 3.

We are so starved of decent wing play right now that anyone that beats a fullback gets a gold star but Frimpong was pretty average.

I still find him an odd purchase at 40M - a very expensive squad player that isn’t quite right either at RW or RB. Fine maybe sub 20M but surely we could’ve done better for that money.

Don't get me wrong, he looks like he could be good, and he played well. But he has a long way to go to prove himself good enough in that spot. I'd still be looking for someone else in the summer, unless he kicks on a bit and stays fit. Maybe he would have, if he hadn't be out so much, but we need more than 3 assists(I think officially 1) for half a season.

at least alonso knows what to do with him if we go that direction but yea he looks too weak to be a pl back 4 right back but not productive enough to be considered a forward

Won the pen at Burnley
Should’ve had an assist against Utd after coming on for 10mins, if Gakpo wasn’t so shit in the air.
Scored in the community shield (they all count)
Kept the best winger in the league quiet for an hour in his home debut.
Like Kerkez, wingers won’t have the beating/better of him in many games.
Should’ve had an assist today if Hugo wasn’t so shit in the air.
Back to back assists before today.

Frim is boss, we need to see more of him not less. Might not be as good a footballer as a Hakimi or Cancelo but still good enough and a smart pick up for 30m

Hmmm maybe. I think this is a bit harsh. I thought he was really good, but maybe you're right. It's been that long since I've seen anyone beat a man with pace and skill for us that my mind was blown today. A few more months, though, and the fraud will coach all that pesky flair and athleticism out of him.

So apparently the ekitike missed header was an xg if .78 and the wirtz blocked shot was .51
So total 1.29 out of of a total of 1.98.. So apart from those 2 big chances out xg was .69 from the rest of the game with Leeds xg .68

He's only played 287 mins (3 starts 4 subs) so that's virtually an assist (officially it is 1 because 1 was deflected and not sure why the other doesn't count in the official stats!) per 90 mins !

I think it is the eye test though. His pace is incredible, it frightens defenders and turns defence into attack instantly (a la prime Salah). He's never going to be Mo of course but the team looks far more balanced with him out there. He's pretty good on the ball too. His fragility is an issue though if he's going to keep missing games.

Oh and he cost €40m (£35m) so probably about right in this market. Not sure how much better we could have got for that.

I wasn't sure what I'm supposed to expect from Kerkez still as a 50m left back. There is no real craft, skill or crossing. He just doesn't seem to do much from attacking sense and I was expecting something more when he came on. As for Frimpong, he does seem to be getting better and no doubt offering more than he did prior to injury but physically despite being quick and skillful, his crossing and general attacking play still seem very light weight. His move to RW seems better suited but seems rather wishful as I thought he was brought in to be a primary RB. Currently all this talk of solidity ahead of Salah is a bit false as the run of games we had is much easier but I expect more from LFC RW going fwd, the standards we set there are amazing and these new signings need to do a lot more pretty soon than just look solid now. The current brand of football is the worst I have seen, I just can’t even visualize a goal when I watch us play from the wings now.

Turned it off to watch the darts build-up. I can't remember us being this boring for ages. At least Woy was dealing with some crap players in his squad, Slot is ruining good players.
Strange year 2025, we won the League but I can only remember a handful of games where we looked good. More often than not, I've drifted away in our matches.
As said, very poor use of £450m in the summer, not added much value, if at all.

You can tell we're crap due to the straw-clutching over performances. Wirtz has had it a lot so far this season, he plays a so-so game and people get excited in an effort to justify the massive outlay. Some of the post-match assessment of Frimpong here is the same. He had an average game, nothing more.

We want players not to dive - but when this happens, and there's no calls, what are we telling them? DIVE otherwise, no call.

I don't really get what is expected of the players ...

I also don't get how the foul on Chiesa late on wasn't called - VAR checked within seconds. It's just a terrible process, and I don't really know if it's really caused much good.

I’m not advocating him as the solution to our woes but to say he’s not getting assists is the only thing that can’t be levelled at him this season.

I didn't think Chiesa's was a pen. TBH. Ekitike's definitely was but that's the problem - if you don't go down it's rarely given. The refs are enabling both the fouls and the diving.

I don't think Chiesa's was a peno - I was just pissed it wasn't given as a FOUL! He grabbed his shirt - that's a foul (at least I thought it was)

Just a technicality - the holding of Ekitikikikitakik started outside the box, though it continued well into the box. Would that not rule out the pen as the initial offence would be a free kick. I know that's not logical but what do the rules say?

Well at that point it should also have been a red card…

I'm not au fait with the exact phrasing but I do know that just because it started outside (the holding) doesn't negate it from being a penalty. It's not the same as (for example) a sliding tackle that starts outside and ends up inside.
