Post Match EPL Man City (H) 1-2 Sunday February 8th

I didn't see a replay of the Silva thing? Did they show that on Sky? I was busy getting schooled by KopRed at this point so my attention may have been elsewhere.

Sorry, I've just realised I'm being a mong and you meant the Silva pull on Salah in the first half. I thought you meant the incident before the 3rd non-goal. Not a pen for me. But there are some similarities between that and the red card.

Anyway, has he been sacked yet?

I mean, the key difference between the 2 is that there was a fucking goalkeeper in one chance, and an open goal in the other.

But there's no point going in on the refs. We didn't deserve to win. Hell, didn't deserve a draw either

Salah wasn’t making the ball anyway because he moves like a sloth. Had he got there he would’ve taken two touches to get it on his left when he would’ve had two players right on him.

Don't forget the part where he then kicks the ball directly at the shins of the nearest defender too.

How it was sensible to allow Allison to go forward and make Szobo stay back covering the goal for the last 5 mins

We didn’t NOT deserve a draw after some decent play for 2/3s of the second half, but 1-2 was probably fair overall

Ref this ref that, the ref is the only reason we're not sat in 7th right now. He took pity on us, absolute fucking shambles.

In every available attacking metric we were worse. Less shots, less shots on target, less blocked shots, less big chances, less xg, less set piece xg,less passes in opposition half, less passes.

In fact I'm being harsh. We were better in long balls.

It’s amazing how bad our counter attacks our. The players choose the worst option almost every time.

We had 4-5 great breaks this game and probably only got a shot away in one of them.

Hugo was particularly sloppy, and got fortunate on the one that resulted in his header from Salah’s cross.

I thought Kerkez was one of the few players to leave head held high, did very well.

I'm not upset by this result.
I expected us at best to draw, so the free kick (unreal) got me all excited and then a tough equalizer to concede (dom isn't a RB) and then a penalty. It's tough to not be negative when you see the Mancs and Chelsea starting to churn results. We deserved at worst a point today, but that's footy.

* I don't get why Modo could predict our subs. Why does he wait till the very last minute before making a change? Tbf, Klopp had this issue too but it's more pronounced with Slot because a) He doesn't trust most of his players (Morton's interview today just confirms his problematic approach to management) b) I just don't believe he's able to change games - the first 5 games of the season were just luck, throwing on non-stop attacking options and it working out. I think he set up the team properly today, they clearly are playing for him (or themselves), yes he's won the league, yes JOta's loss has fucked this season up whether I can fully acknowledge it or not, but I feel he's not the right manager.

* I don't get why Gakpo had to play 70+ minutes. The first half, I felt he was in possession twice and with the option to really open up the game and he cocked both opportunities up by Curtis Jones'ing on the ball. Yes, he scores some goals, he tracks back ok etc but he's just not first 11 material when we're basically Hugo + 2. Hugo's not ready to carry the front line like this despite his talent.

* Salah seemed to have a bit extra today but as we can tell by his shot output vs shots on target, he's just not able to consistently do what we need from him. I know he's a legend, I know what he's done but he's just a good player nowadays, who rarely contributes defensively and rarely contributes in the front 3rd either. One thing I'd like to say is that it's still fucking ridiculous how often he's fouled with ZERO protection from the refs. It's fucking ridiculous.

* Kerkez had a good game but the last 10 minutes of regulation time kinda pissed me off. Hoofing non-stop, giving the lads no time to just breathe and tire Man City out a bit. I guess that will come with experience, but other than that, he's a very good LB and will only get better.

* Dom's burst which set up Salah's freekick was great. Hopefully we see it next year in the middle of the pitch more frequently. What a free kick too ... wow, fucking wow. He should be taking all free kicks and corners ...

* Gravy still seems 'off' this season - maybe he's knackered. Dunno.

* Macca is also still 'off', but it seems he's improving every week. Maybe we'll have last season's Macca for kick off next season?

* overall, the defense played well.

* Bernardo Silva is a cunt. Important to always state this when we play. Utter cunt.

* It pains me to say this but I still want City to beat Arsenal to the title. Fucking hate both teams, but hate Arsenal more.
We didn't have much in the way of a bench to make impact worthy changes. Gapko for Rio, salah for ?? We're threadbare after pissing away 200 million. We recouped sure but sold any depth. Slot can't manage players, has no chemistry, can't tell a player no, so reduces his teams to a tiny squad to avoid disappointing players. Klopp relied on his youth.

Alison’s reckless challenge the latest crazy event late on in a game this season. Game management has been pathetic. Cost us at least 10 points and probably a CL place.

I mean this sincerely, that I think the only thing making me optimistic is that we are the best awful team I've ever seen. Sure, we can't win games on the same level as hodgson, but that team never occasionally sparked into life or completely and spectacularly stabbed itself in public. It just plodded along with the enthusiasm of someone walking to their death.

We still produce moments of real magic... That ultimately abort themselves one way or another. We still have players who look quite dominant in moments... And don't look part of any cohesive team. We contrive to find amazing new ways of shitting ourselves, again and again.

We look extremely poorly coached in very basic ways. You see it with our playing out the back, with our clueless buildup, with our largely improvised pressing. Whatever we accidentally do well, we can't hold on to for more than 20 minutes.

We also went into this season weaker than last due to chronic neglect and deferred maintenance of the squad.

Our biggest deficiencies are obvious and solvable.

Why you would entrust any of the architects of this doomed lot to fix it, though, I haven't got a clue.

If you want slot to teach a young group of defenders how to play football whatever way his is, then I'd love to hear why.
