I'm in no way more silenced or convinced of Slot than I was during our shitstorm of results. I do credit him for handling the Salah situation well, the Inter result, as well as making some tactical changes. But really all we've done is start four or five CMs for some solidility in circumstances that forced our hand. I fear we would have lost against Spurs had they kept eleven men and started Richarlison or brought him on earlier. We looked awful when the numbers were level and somehow even worse when we were two men up.
If he can get us third or fourth and a decent CL run then I'm up for giving him another year, but I'll always maintain that run of results is sackable, especially in the context of a longer term decline in both performances and results.
I'm absolutely fine for a muddling, traditional year. It's disappointing but understandable. But I'd like to see some process that were on the right path beyond just results. That includes some clear structure to our play, clear attacking patterns that our opposition struggle to maintain, a balanced midfield that matches the aggression and work ethic of the opponents a defense that can better handle set pieces, and a side that generally stop looking so fragile. And that's all before you get to better use it squad management and maintaining morale. We've made some marginal progress on some it the above, but there's still a long way to go.
