EPL Week 1 Other Games

Is this how Sesko played in the Bundesliga or just how Amorim is using him -- a throwback big centre forward just standing in the box as the target man waiting for crosses to come in?

Gyokeres was useless but Zubimendi hasn't been very impressive in this game either has he? Thought Casemiro had a far better game

It's a low bar but United look like they improved from last season with Mbeumo and particularly Cunha unsurprisingly looking like good signings. Not impressed with Sesko at all though

I have never “judged” a player this quickly before! I saw enough in 20 minutes to confidently say he’s a dud.

I know it's early days but first impression reminds me of that big lump of shite West Ham signed from Serie A a few years ago

It would be very funny if he wasn't even an upgrade on Hojlund

Arsenal were completely outplayed by an average, unbalanced Utd.

Gyokeres shit, Madueke shit, Zubimendi ineffective.

Created nothing and won by yet another corner involving a systematic foul on the keeper.
I don’t think it was a foul but any decent keeper would’ve dealt with it. I can’t think of another single chance until the last cross of the game where Arsenal looked like scoring.

It's tough not to hate Arsenal - putting aside ARsenal Fan TV, or the arrogance of the manager etc ... but I really don't get how they can invest SO much and still be a team that is more likely week on week to win b/c of a "legal" free kick or corner routine. I know at the end of the day, trophies are ALL that matters, and if they win it that way, no one will care ... but fuck me, they have some REALLY good players and to win like that? What a damning testament of the man who 'learned so much from pep'.

Only Cheats FC have started the season like they have a clue what they're doing... The two London challengers look EXACTLY the same as they did last year (might be a good time to get the arse, in two weeks), but we look like we did when Jurgen first took over - Rolls Royce up top, Delboy's three-wheeler at the back.

Oh bore off. What happened today wasn't a foul, it was a poorly written rule being retrospectively applied by VAR as if it was a tax code. The ref was spot on in giving the goal, the problem with VAR is it's more obsessed with the letter of the law than looking at the situation and judging it. Rules in football have always been about interpretation, only a few things are absolutes (offside, back passes, professional fouls etc), and whilst I'm a supporter of VAR, this is its biggest issue, it's changing the way football is refereed.

If you genuinely looked at that goal today and thought it should be disallowed, not because someone interfered with the wall, but because they were 30cm away from the wall instead of one metre, then I can't argue with you, I can only pity you.
Ref shouldn’t have allowed it and Var did the right thing, I couldn’t give a fuck if you think 1 meter should be interpreted or not, there are thousands of frees given because the rules are black and white even if ‘common sense’ says otherwise.
Ref being an inconsistent dickhead doesn’t change that.

Watched that goal on highlights. Surprised that the goal was allowed to stand. It was not a coming together of players in a chaotic environment. There was a deliberate attempt to foul the keeper.

exactly, weak keeper for sure but also a foul

IMPEDING THE PROGRESS OF AN OPPONENT WITHOUT CONTACT

Impeding the progress of an opponent means moving into the opponent’s path to obstruct, block, slow down or force a change of direction when the ball is not within playing distance of either player.

All players have a right to their position on the field of play; being in the way of an opponent is not the same as moving into the way of an opponent.

A player may shield the ball by taking a position between an opponent and the ball if the ball is within playing distance and the opponent is not held off with the arms or body. If the ball is within playing distance, the player may be fairly charged by an opponent.

Saliba wasn't even jumping for the ball, he was just hell bent on pushing the keeper out of position when he saw the ball floating in. His elbow reached in right away to the keeper's ribs to shove him away.

It's crazy they do this all the time and were never penalized.

Now that he's gone there I hope things don't work out, but that post is a ludicrous kneejerk. I don't want ManUre to do well any more than you do, but Sesko's only 22 and is starting in a new league, country and culture. Klopp is on record as rating him highly and I'm afraid I do too. Let's not be waving the flags and banners just yet.
