Now and on paper yes. However maybe Arsenal's style suits us. They are probably playing as well as they can at present whereas it's clear we have a LOT more in the tank.

We're becoming difficult to beat and the new players are settling in well. The established players were awful early season but especially Macca and Konate are looking more like their old selves.

My main concern is injuries in key positions. The squad looks very thin in some positions. However we are definitely improving.

Us playing without a striker is why we bossed them as we outnumbered them in midfield.

Slot will have to decide if we do the same again if we face them again
 
Bookies have Arsenal and BM as clear favourites (4/1 and 9/2).

Then come 5 teams between 8/1 and 12/1 (us). Big gap then to Chelsea at 20/1.

Seems about right even if Arse are overvalued at those odds.
 
I think it’s 50-50 against Arsenal, City, Chelsea and Newcastle.

Would prefer to avoid a PL team

Not sure I agree given how we set up yesterday. Ekitike could have come in and played off the left for example.
 
I think we need a CB in the window to be able to truly say 'It's on' because I just don't see us getting to May without one of Virgil or Ibu getting injured

I hope they change the format back to the group stages again. This league phase is getting ridiculous. Qarabag going through when conceding 21 goals is quite something. The English teams just breeze through. Spurs are awful and finish in the top 8.
 
Love the new format. Long may it continue. I do think they should give protective to the top 4 in relation to seeding pre group stage so for example we couldn’t get Juve or AM.
 
Best thing about the new format is the last game week of the league phase. Everything else is meh

For neutrals, it gives a chance for some great games in the playoffs onwards. And arguably giving teams like qarabag the platform to get more money isn't an inherently bad thing.

Honestly I disagree because we get some great games, and far more of them, far earlier in the competition. It's common to get something like a Bayern vs Real for example. With groups that is never going to happen. They do need to sort out seedings thereafter (last 16) however.

The league is not about the likes of Qarabag going through after conceding 21 (6 against us rather slanting that stat) because they still performed better than the teams below them (Napoli!) and we saw the likes of Bodo (I stayed a night there in the way to photographing in Lofoten!) beating both City and Atleti !

The league stage is mainly about sorting out the draw not excluding teams (only 8 out of 32 drop out), which is why they haven't got the Last 16 draw properly sorted yet.
 
Yepp I agree. When it was floated I thought it was daft but the format really works as long as you don’t get into the playiffs!

Guaranteeing every team 8 games is great for the game.

Also means you get a few juicy ties too vs one big game home and away.
 
The problem comes for teams that have to play the four additional games instead of “just” two

No way the new format works with just 6 games though. Not enough differentiation
