European Tidbits

I remember an interview with Souness talking about how mad it seemed when he got to Sampdoria and they told you how to live, rather than simply play football. This is in the context of him explaining how fucking shit he was at managing Liverpool, and describing why he had felt he had to smash up the boot room and replace the cultural norms, and why it had to get worse before it got better. It didn't get better but whatever.

He said that you got told what to eat, which for him usually had been fish and chips and ten pints, and was now a light pasta dish with one, maximum, glass of wine. He said you got told when you were expected to be in bed, which noone had ever broached at Liverpool (Jan molby getting trashed at three in the morning then fucking the mancs at three in the afternoon what's not to love etc) But yeah he also said the boss there forbade them from fucking the night before a match.

This interview would have been a few months after he got sacked, which puts me at around 21, which means I was DJing in warehouses off my tits all the time, but I do remember it because I always wondered how that boss of Sampdoria would have found out about the shag had you had one, and how having a shag would make you a worse player some hours later.

Still don't know. Any ideas?
Boxers can’t shag for months before a fight.

Evra (the prick) spoke brilliantly about the absolute contrast of this at Juve compared to Utd and said he wouldn’t have played til he 36 if not for this side of things.

I firmly believe that’s one of the reasons Itlians fail here. They go from every aspect of their professional and private life managed to basically be allowed to do whatever you want outside of training.

I also think it’s why Salah is such an amazing pro now. He learnt it in Italy and it turned his career around.

So we’re saying if you want to score regularly, you have to not “score” regularly?
And if you want to “score” regularly, you have to accept that you won’t score regularly.
Is that it?
I remember my best mate growing up was convinced if he score on Sat in our game he wouldn’t score that night in a club and vice versa. For a good two years it proved correct 🤣🤣🤣

Is he right? He says that Madrid and Barca would be around midtable

Distribution of income is tailored to keep Barca and Real rich and the rest poor. That said, they'd get more TV money coming over here.

They're big enough to be able to spend to compete, they'd be fine after a season.

Cold, winter, rainy nights in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Sunderland, Newcastle.... I think they're probably happy with their lot and couldn't give two hoots what that shouty spanglish dude thinks about the level of competition.

Maybe we would have done that had we not gone for two luxuries which cost us £250 million.
Luxuries?! After 9 games in the PL?! The panic on this site is hilarious at times.

One of those 'luxuries' has been injured / unfit to date and the other 'luxury' has the best 'chances created and big chances created ' in both the PL and CL, despite being 22 years old and adjusting to a new team, country and league whilst the club he joined is in mourning.

As for the someone that will say "yet but Ekitike"! Well ⅔ people on this site didn't want him according to the poll we had and no-one foresaw he'd be as good as he's been. Added to which we lost two strikers and replaced them with two strikers.

If after two seasons they are not tearing it up then we can point and say 'waste of money' or 'luxuries', to say that after 9 PL Games is risible.

Yes. Luxuries. One has injury issues for all bar one season of his career. The other has had his best games playing right wing or left wing and can’t play in our middle three because we are too light there when he plays.

Whether they perform at world class levels for us or not (they should for the price & opportunity cost) they are still luxury signings.

I am half expecting Wirtz to shit on citeh today though. You can see it's about to happen for him. Isak yeah, I can't see us ever getting the value.

I’ll be a bit miffed if he doesn’t start LW today. I think he can press the shit out of City’s defence

Well that depends on your definition of 'luxury'.

Buying 2 players of the highest quality as part of a transition doesn't meet that critetia (for me). Buying players just for the sake of it when not required does.

Of course we could have just gone for run of the mill PL players instead of trying to create a 'dynasty'.

This is how I class both Isak and Wirtz.
