Yes, and the intense atmosphere would probably be different with the VAR breaks.
Kind of refreshing watching without.

What if instead of the whole VAR infrastructure the ref just had permission to go and watch the TV replays - same as the fans get - on a rare occasion when they genuinely missed something? Basically just common sense.

Can't trust the ref. Maybe let managers have 3 review calls per match (Incorrect. Correct calls don't count).

Who would facilitate it though, and if the ref doesnt spot whats gone wrong there arent someone to point that out?

Then just move on - the responsibility with making the correct decisions rests with the referee. They will look at the replay if they genuinely believe they couldn’t see something crucial (it was infuriating during the pre-VAR days when every fan could see a key detail the ref missed and they were literally forbidden from watching the replay - that was the idiocy that created the clamor for the VAR). If you don’t trust the ref to be reasonable, VAR will not fix that.

If you can’t trust the ref, have some accountability and hire the refs you can trust. Having 3 cunts in Stockley Park overseeing another cunt on the pitch doesn’t suddenly make the whole thing good.

It’s like trying to fix a bad CEO by installing a committee above him - it will only create another later of bad decision-making and unclear chain of authority. Just hire someone good!

Maybe, but if its set up correctly VAR could be there to help the ref - not to confuse or contribute to being scared/passive to make mistakes.
Just need someone who isnt a shit ex ref to oversee the "process". What we learned from the Diaz no goal incident was that the tech guy without any refereeing background was the one who reacted correctly.

If they gave the responsibility to someone who can set this up correctly, stop using referees that arent fit to be on field anymore and then start acting professional (no more mate or Gaz) - there might be a great benefit for football altogether.

I think you misunderstood my 'can't trust the ref.' comment, or maybe it lacked clarity. If the ref. has missed something, or believe he's got it right, or mistakenly trusts his linesmen - then he's not going to review his (potentially seriously mistaken) decision so you need another pair of eyes and at the moment that's VAR but if you restrict the VAR officials and put some of that power into the hands of the managers on the touchline (to be able to call for a review, as in some other sports) then maybe this would be worth trialing, I haven't thought it through in detail, no doubt there'll be pros and cons.

Just watching the MotD highlights and I was astonished that Nottingham Forest list "2022 Play-off Champions" amongst their honours on the digital boards at the ground

Almost Everton/DVD standards. The "We beat the team that finished third to steal their promotion slot" Trophy

To be fair - it’s been slim pickings for them since Clough retired like 30 years ago.

It appears they’ve changed managers 37 times in the last 30 years, been runner up twice, once in the Championship and once in League 1 - with the play-off being the only “final” they’ve reached and won.

Always had a soft spot for them growing up - glad they’re finally back up and hope they can stay up for a while and re-establish themselves as a decent team.

That dive by Fernandes for a penalty against the mighty Wigan. Lets see if the media handles this like the Jota incident.
