Liverpool Target Ajax Youngster as Long Term Steven Gerrard Replacement

Anfield side target

Liverpool are reportedly readying an offer for highly regarded Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen as Brendan Rodgers continues to scout top youthful additions that he hopes to form a nucleus of his long term plans as Anfield boss.
A number of Europe’s ‘Elite’ have been linked with interest in the 20 year old Danish international but as yet no side has been able to wrestle the young talent from the Amsterdam side but Rodgers is hoping for his board’s backing to make a significant offer for the Ajax starlet.
Eriksen has helped guide his side to back to back Eredivisie titles and has shown a great deal of maturity for both club and country that has not gone unnoticed. Amsterdam Arena boss Frank de Boer will fight tooth and nail to keep the former Odense youth team player but will no that it’s likely that he will lose the talented attacking midfielder sooner rather than later.

Brendan Rodgers ethos, much in keeping with that of Liverpool’s American owners, is to plan for the future by predominantly directing their transfer policy towards the snapping up of young talent that can help drive the side upwards towards the top four and who also have a high sell on value, Ajax midfielder Eriksen certainly fits the bill on both counts.
Therefore Liverpool could well put in a substantial offer feeling that the capture of a player with as much promise as Christian Eriksen undoubtedly has will result in either a possible increased value sale a few seasons down the track or have the desired effect of improving the club’s standing in the Premier League and beyond.
Rodgers may well see Eriksen as an ideal man to replace veteran Steven Gerrard who at 32 is clearly in the latter stages of his Liverpool career.
Christian Eriksen has already notched up over 120 appearances for his Dutch side and has 26 international caps to his name and was part of Denmark’s Euro 2012 squad.

Yup

Pesam, is Zaha that good? Haven't seen him this year, I've not had sky sports (and I don't watch the football league show)

I thought Zaha was more of a wide player whereas Eriksen plays more centrally

Up until this season he just showed potential. I saw him at the start of the season and couldn't believe how much he'd "filled-out", he's a lot stronger now and still has the silky skills and is showing a great eye for goal.

Sunny, Zaha can play either side of the pitch OR in a central/wandering role. I'd hate to wrongly build anyone's hopes up BUT the bits I've seen of him this season remind me alot of a certain John Barnes!

Don't do that !!!

I know, the thought of a new JB playing for us is just too much to take in (or hope for). Given a choice though of Zaha for £12m (the rumoured asking price) or Walcott for £12m I hope we plump for Zaha.

Whaaaaaaaaat

Eriksen's got the ability to be just as good as the last Dane we bought directly from Ajax.

He will also have his choice of clubs so Liverpool won't be his destination

You're basing this on what?

Perhaps he likes the club? Perhaps he is close with Agger and wants to play on his team? Perhaps he wants to replace Gerrard? Perhaps he wants to play every game, and not go in and out of starting line ups at Madrid? Barca? Manure? Chelsea? Perhaps, like Suarez, we'll make our move before anyone and not give him the option?

Rodgers tiki-taka style of football does need a nimble footed AM in advanced position and no one quite fits that bill in our side at the moment. I watch guys like Xavi and Silva and the way they can turn away from defenders - a lot of the time by doing something as simple as a 180 degree turn with the ball - and buy themselves time and space is fantastic.

The one exception to my first statement is Suso. If we genuinely believe he has what it takes to be a top class player we may be better off investing our limited funds in other areas of the team.

But surely the fact eriksen CAN play other positions (as can suso) means that it's not a case of either/or
