With reports that we are after both Adam & Honda, and that Henderson has joined, it does seem as if we are very Centre Midfield heavy at the moment... Do we really need all these?

Gerrard
Meireles
Henderson
Aqualini
Lucas
Spearing
Maxi
Poulsen
Shelvey

Adam
Honda

I'd say forget both Adam and Honda and go for some Wingers... Oh and off load Poulsen while we're at it.

Get rid of Aqua, Maxi, Poulsen and Spearing

Welcome Adam and Honda

we would have one of the strongest midfield's

For me it's sell: Poulsen, Aquilani

Keep in our CM rotation - Gerrard Meireles Henderson Shelvey

Cheap squaddie - Spearing

Meaning if Adam comes I would be looking to shift Lucas, who might actually attract a bid or two now. I'd be a lot more comfortable with a decent DM coming in rather than Adam though.

That is the way I would see things too

No he's not. Spearing's a better DM any day. Lucas is a better passer, but we have others to do that who are better than he is.

Are people still feeling the effects of a Saturday night piss up, sell Lucas...what what what???

Why not ?

The fact that he's had a decent season is exactly the reason why I'd be selling him - someone might be willing to pay a few quid for him.

It's ultimately the class v form thing, he has been in form lately if someone is willing to mistake that for class then I'm all for biting their hand off when they offer 8m plus.

Spearing? He hasn't played enough for anyone to make a judgment about his consistency really.

His only proper run in the first team was towards the last 10 odd games in the seasons, and he was consistently better at the defensive stuff than Lucas then. But you have a point if you're saying that he may not be able to do that over the course of a season.

What we do know however is that Lucas really isn't good enough to be an out and out DM over the course of a season. In other words, we desperately need a new DM.

The way I see it, we should always line up with three CMs: a holding midfielder (with the ability to make things tick), an enforcer/terrier and an attacking/box-to-box player.

The personnel at disposition is:

Holding player: Lucas, Shelvey
Enforcer/terrier: Spearing, Poulsen
AM/box-to-box: Gerrard, Meireles, Henderson

Upgrades are clearly needed in the two deeper positions so it's a bit perplexing why we've gone after Henderson. I can see Kenny thinking of Adam as a potential upgrade on Lucas, and while he may be a better passer, Lucas (for all that I've criticised him) probably has a better work rate and more steel than Adam. If we're looking for an upgrade on Lucas, I'd really want someone a bit more complete. I'd love Xabi back of course but I think we should look at someone like Defour. Alternatively, I'd rather groom Shelvey. Adam doesn't represent enough of a high quality enforcement for me.

As for the enforcer/terrier position, I reckon Spearing is good enough to play for us on a fairly regular basis. But we really should be looking at someone like M’vila. And if he’s too expensive, we need to look at the availability of maybe Diarra or Scott Parker. Either way, I’m not very comfortable with Spearing as the only first choice DM at the club. Should we not get an enforcement at this position, I have the horrible feeling we’re going to see unbalanced midfield line-ups throughout the course of the season, which in my book, is a sure shot recipe for disaster.

Speaking of Xabi - he's in Liverpool today according to RAWK.

Playing golf with Kenny.

Gerrard, Lucas, Meireles, Henderson, Shelvey.

Sell Poulsen, Aquilani, Spearing.

Dont buy Gutso and buy a concept DM for tough awaydays and big games.

1st choice - Diarra
2nd choice - Mascherano
3rd choice - Banega

--------------Gerrard------Lucas------------------
--------------------Meireles-----------------------

Thats my first choice for all home games.

Because he was excellent for us last season, is 24, is making his mark for Brazil and is growing in stature with every game.

Come to think of it, he was one a few consistent performers in Rafa's last season as well.

It would be madness to sell Lucas in my view.

I don't know what the lad has to do to finally win people over.

He was consistently shit in Rafa's last season. But let's not debate that. Since you're new to the site, I don't think you've seen many Lucas debates yet. Let's just say we're the complete opposite of RAWK. Though that has gotten a bit tempered since Lucas' last season, and also since Brendan's departure.

Yes. Henderson is versatile should we shift Kuyt back up front to.

Fuck Honda.

I thought he was pretty good in Rafa's last season. Each to their own.

What do you mean "we're" the complete opposite of RAWK?

Sounds to me like you've a fixed opinion on Lucas, and it's not changing regardless of his performances.

Fuck, this bloody torrential rain from dusk til dawn wont help persuade him to move back here.

I'd love to have him back but Alonso seems to be a very important player for Real.

It has changed a bit, but I think we need better than him. And I think most of the site holds the same opinion. Unlike RAWK who think he could have staked a claim to a first team slot in the '88 side.

I agree, I just don't see how he has come from Zero to Hero like he seems to have in quite a few peoples eyes.

Granted, he has improved markedly, and most of last season probably deserved his place, but that was mainly because of the lack of options, and that he is now seen as a bit of a steady Eddy.

Assuming Gerrards fitness, Miereles maintaining his great start to his Liverpool career (one of the big positives of last year), Henderson coming in for big money and likely to be followed by Adam, one of the most prolific mid fielders last year in terms of goals and assists in the premiership, I can't see were Lucas fits. I am sure he will get games , but he is not going to be a fixture like he was last year.

regards

Absolutely. There's a place for him in the squad (if he stays) but not IMO as a first team regular, not if we strengthen as we need to anyway.

Going back to the original post, Honda? We're we linked again or summit?
[/quote]

I think he said he is bored at his current club and wanted a transfer. People have put 2+2 together based on us being linked with him in the past.

Ross called it spot on.

In an ideal world a decent DM would be arriving instead of Adam to compete for that spot in the squad. We should be all over Parker instead.
