Florian and the (Slot) Machine

so we were proven right, about Bellingham
Not really, he won la liga and ucl in his first season with RM. I think he is one of the best, but I just do not like him for some reason. Also NONE of us should ever look back to not signing him with any regret, the right thing happened because just to buy him plus one other would not be enough for us. Apart from Jones we had no other starter and some on here do not even want jones should be at the club. He did the right by not selecting us.

I’ve seen him play a dozen times and he was fucking crap in 11 of them. Shit against us and twice against Arsenal. Garbage when I saw him against city too.

And tell me what did he do last season? apart from disappearing up Trent's arse?

I'll tell you what he did, the square root of fuck all. He bottled the challenge of joining the best league in the world by joining an inferior league and now it seems that attitude has rubbed on to his brother too. What is it with the Bellinghams and avoiding the premier league?

Yea his brother comes across as a prick too.

Yes one bad season since he we all heard about him at Birmingham - so based on that does that mean Mo and Virgil are shit in the season we came 5th and did not qualify for CL ?

Bellingham plays well when the opposition lets him play well, or the entire team is made for him to shine. First year with Madrid that happened as everything went through him. Now everything is mbappe focused so he's become a shite side character.

I originally thought he could turn in to a Gerrard regen, now I think it's more a poor man's lampard.

Yeah he is, think if it wasn’t for his attitude then he could be something else. He has all the ability to be a genuine great but I believe Madrid is not the right platform him now.

So kinda hinted at it before but I'm struggling to fully get behind this one.

I don't watch any Bundesliga so sure / hoping ignorance is playing a big part.

On paper, it feels a little disruptive to the team we have. I'm hoping he's the generational talent everyone says he is and it all just clicks.

Feels really good to start with a generational player that is probably top 10-15 in the World already.
What a signing this will be.

He has to click here, he can be all the generational talent he wants to be on paper, but he has to be capable of doing it at the next level, in the Premiership and in Europe and with that price tag around his neck. It's no good just banking on it because he's the next big thing, it's a completely different prospect actually doing it and succeeding. Nothing's a given in this game, that's why we HAVE to have done our homework well and for him to not be another Nunez or Keita.

There are the usual reservations about the fee, how he’ll adapt, and where he fits into the team, but I do trust the club to get it largely right. The money is huge and no one can say for certain that he's £60–70 million better than Cherki, Simons, or any of the others — but the data nerds must be convinced we're signing one of the most complete attacking players in world football, and that always carries a premium, i.e, you pay more for the marginal gains in quality after a certain point, and I generally respect the clubs diligence to have established he has that.

I can say for certain that if City were signing him after winning the league, SCM would be full of posts claiming the sky is falling and that it's impossible to compete, so there's that. Rival fans are shitting themselves over our planned summer business and that's fine by me.

This is the type of signing the club has to make if it wants to be considered as one of the biggest clubs in the world. I know very little about him, and all we can do is hope our scouts have done their due diligence.

Thats the thing though. He's just not the next big thing. He's already an established World star.
I know we have been burnt before with Darwin and Keita. But this is another level of talent.
Add in that he has got the right motivation, work rate and seems the perfect personality to be added into the group it kinda feels like a plug and play in all honesty. Can't wait for us to sign him.

If he had gone to City we would have been saying they'll cake walk the league for years with the heir to KDB.

He's got 31 G/A in 42 games in Europe (CL and EL) already, so that wont be much of a problem.

I would really hope that the club's overriding ambition is to win trophies rather than "be considered as one of the biggest clubs in the world". The two may not be mutually exclusive, but if we make a signing with the second objective in mind and not the first then our arse is 200% about our tit.

Careful sharing a view with me. You’ll get stoned!

Please, people talking about a manager who’s won a European trophy as the worst in the history of the EPL.

Laughable.

a trophy is a trophy
20+ losses are 20+ losses
a point total that would see relegation if the bottom 3 weren't such shit is still a point total that would see relegation if the bottom 3 weren't such shit
a european competition that lost a lot of its luster because of the removal of CL teams is still a european competition that lost a lot of its luster because of the removal of CL teams
a trophy is a trophy

Spurs would be wise - despite the trophy - to learn from Man U and their Ten Hag gamble ...
