Florian and the (Slot) Machine

Wirtz would be a transformational signing on the level of Salah/Virgil.

There's no player I want us to sign more.

We would absolutely win the League agaim with him.

And I'm convinced he's off to City

Doubled in 3 hours?

That’s 32% by morning and done deal by lunch. A proper lunch. Not a Brizzle lunch.
Ha. Only because there's no way Bayern go above €95m for him. I read somewhere that they point blank refuse to go to €100m. It's from the same kind of philosophy of Klopps comments all those years ago.

I can't see us going to 150 tbh. That's obscene money. We might get wrangled in to a bidding war and go for just over 100, but cannot see 150.

Well… it would be kind of nice to make a statement signing!!

I don’t mean the sort of statement that signing someone like Chiesa makes.

I might be alone in thinking this. But I'd rather spend the money on Cherki, Mastantuano and put the rest towards a new number 9.

As special as Wirtz is, Mastantuano seems like the next generational talent.

Wirtz is a generational talent though. 22 years old, 122 G/A in 198 games. Just as good at scoring goals as creating them. Can play as a false 9 and 10, and just about everywhere in attack.

The fee is likely to be around 100-110 mill.

100m i can understand. I'd be pissed if we paid anything over that. As good as he is to spend 150m on him would be insane and would mess us up on getting players in other positions.

I dont disagree. But like Glen said. It's funds that could be used for other positions. However I'd also be happy with Wirtz AND Mastantuano

Even if he doesn't go to Germany, people forget City are there. The father is the agent, and City will offer an extra £10m (to the agent) more than we can. Wirtz is going to City. They'll also pay him £300k/week or more in wages. I would rather City do it sooner rather than later so we don't see another transfer saga dragging on all summer.

Yes, Cherki is a very special talent and I think he is what we need, wile Mastan...OMGFLORIANWIRTZWANTSTOCOMEJUSTSPENDALLTHEMONEYGUYSITS150MILLIONTHATSTWODARWINNUNEZZES

I feel like you are trying to tell us something...

If only we could tell what it was?

I can’t believe we’d spend that much money just to bench or rotate Szoboszlai, so I can only assume the plan is to use him as a false nine and make it work. Despite the criticism he gets, I think Slot rates him highly.

If we’re targeting Wirtz as an attacking midfielder, then I’d expect us to go for a cheaper striker, someone like Jonathan David. That might not be such a bad thing, given how inflated the striker market is at the moment.

Signing someone like Cherki would be more in keeping with our usual approach, but we’ll see. We have made some wild moves in the market in recent years.
