Florian and the (Slot) Machine

Since when had that stopped Perez?

By the way, Alonso will get and play whoever Madrid buys not whoever he fancies.

Yeah, if Perez gets it into his head that Wirtz is a love child of Kroos and Modrić that they have been missing (which he is not, by the way – he’s more of a forward than a midfielder IMO), they might have a go. And Alonso would love to work with Wirtz again, I’m sure.

But if they do want him, they will have to lay out the money upfront – no waiting for a cut price deal or other typical shenanigans. Not sure they want him badly enough. Stiller is a profile they need.

Let’s just get moving and get it done before Real or Bayern get organised.

If there’s any hesitation from the player now l, you’d have to consider walking away.

Question is - do we need Stiller more ?- I have this belief that we need the extra quality midfielder to add to our 5 to make it 6 to give us the flexibility to compete in all competitions.

Whatever happens, it’ll be interesting to see how Leverkusen approach next season. A rebuild is inevitable, but they’ll have a healthy transfer budget and the lure of Champions League qualification to attract talent. Personally, I think they should set their sights higher than the Hag. While Amorim has made the Hag look competent by comparison, that’s more a reflection of how poor the Hag’s squad building has been. It’s been one of the worst examples of recruitment and team construction in recent memory. Leverkusen should be aiming for a manager with a modern vision and a track record of building something sustainable, not someone whose recent work has been, at best, uninspiring. His entire career has been built around having the fortune of having promising youngsters come through at Ajax at the right time - Grav, De Jong, De Ligt, De Beek, Tadic, Onana, Ziyech, etc, and managed to take them far into the CL than anyone expected. He had no ideas beyond that and desperately scrambled to recreate it, at huge expense, because it was all he knew. If you were presenting the 'managers don't matter on the day-to-day' argument then ETH is the ready made example for prosecution. He was far from the only problem at Old Trafford and actually held himself pretty well amongst the circus around him, but there's little under-pinning his credentials as a manager for the biggest stage either. Leverkusen fans will be gutted this summer, whatever happens, but appointing ETH really would be kicking them in the balls. I'm not invested in anyway, but some competitiveness in the Bundisliga has to be welcomed and supported, and it would be a shame for them to blow it.

Plus that guy is a nutjob. Went to prison for 3 years for tax evasion of~30M before being re-appointed at Bayern. He also publicly blames individual players for exits from tournaments. It's like us sending the love child of Jimmy Carr and Nigel Farage to negotiate.

Why? We have Endo and the Badger coming back a secondary no. 6 isn’t priority

By inevitable… do you mean that dodgy clickbait football sites that have absolutely no idea what’s going on are going to start making up shit that people will post on here and decide it’s true or untrue depending on what they want to believe???

Take Ornstein’s latest update instead - that there is no update because nobody knows what’s going on.

You’ll get less of a sugar hit, but also less angry if it doesn’t work out.

He isn't coming to us, and I am 100% okay with that. I believe he is talking to Alonso and seeing if and when Madrid show their hands. Madrid have nearly €500m in the bank, compared to our €160m. They will buy big to challenge again, they have seen they are behind Barca, Liverpool, PSG and Arsenal

You don't seem to get it, that quad attempt season - one of the reasons we managed to compete in all competitions was because there were stages of the season where we had ALL our midfielders available - and they were starting midfielders:

Henderson, Fab, Milner, Thiago, Ox, Keita, - essentially 6 seniors with PL/Euro experience.

at this moment in time we have just 5 - I want a sixth potential starter - and based on Badger's stats - I don't think he has the experience to make a difference - I see him more as next seasons Tyler or the spare man to be used in the earlier stages of the cup competitions until he can build himself into contention.

We won the league this season because Slot rotated that midfield (its not THE reason but it is one of the reasons) so that they would not feel the exhaustion like they did last season. Also - I have never counted Harvey as a midfielder, so please don't. What we lack is not a DM 6, but more so another more physical runner type like Szobo and also being a baller.

Agree totally - we should not be going in for a player like him, knowing that his Daddy has just gone to Madrid and we are being used and setup to be embarrassed.

Bayern are worried about Liverpool and Florian Wirtz

Bayern Munich still believe they have the Wirtz family’s word that he will join Bayern in 2025 or 2026. But now, there is a bit of fear inside the club around Liverpool, because they didn’t think that the Reds would commit to the transfer fee, as it’s a lot of money. They had an idea a couple of summers ago for Moises Caicedo (with a £111m bid), but this didn’t work out. We heard that Florian was already househunting in Liverpool. The family is playing this transfer game quite openly; they’re telling Bayern what they’re doing with Liverpool, and they’re telling Liverpool what they’re doing with Bayern Munich. That’s perhaps why the BBC had the information about a meeting between Florian Wirtz and Bayern in Munich.

This is what will happen soon with Bayern – the club will hold a meeting at the Tegernsee. Uli Hoeneß has a house here. Here, they want to make a deal with the family. They’re hoping to gain some ground with the father (and agent), Hans-Joachim, who is nearly the same age as Hoeneß. His generation certainly admires Hoeneß, so this is a big chance for Bayern. Max Eberl also lives in the Tegernsee. They want to stop the efforts of Liverpool and complete the deal.

However, with Michael Edwards and Co. making the trip to Boston to see key FSG chiefs and discuss the deal, it’s not going to get easier for Bayern. It’s €150m Leverkusen are demanding for Florian Wirtz. Bayern won’t pay this, so that’s the chance for Liverpool to steal a march in the transfer poker by getting closer to this transfer fee.

We heard that Vincent Kompany already had a talk with Wirtz to show him where he’d be playing in the squad. So, you see, everything is really concrete. That’s why I think Bayern are still ahead, but they do take Liverpool’s efforts very seriously. Wirtz was impressed with what he saw from Liverpool. It’s a really big, professional club – another world when you’re working in Leverkusen. By comparison, Bayern Munich is more of a family club. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world, of course, but the training ground, for instance, isn’t quite as big as you’d expect! This is because the campus where the youth teams play isn’t in the same place, so everything at other clubs, like Liverpool, can look bigger by comparison.

Juliane Wirtz

There is a family connection with the Wirtz deal. Florian Wirtz’s father, Hans, of course, is his agent and is working on the transfer. But they have help from agents with marketing questions. Marketing questions are handled by Volker Struth and his agency, which looks after his sister, Juliane Wirtz. His other sister works for Struth’s agency, helping with social media. So, that’s why everyone is always connecting things with Florian’s sisters. But in the end, Juliane has been interviewed on this and said it was a nice idea, but she’d never heard about an offer to play for the FC Bayern women’s team.

Real Madrid interest

Bayern Munich currently don’t take reported interest from Real Madrid in Florian Wirtz very seriously. They just have an eye on Liverpool. They knew very early that Manchester City would be out of the race. The Sky Blues are focused on signing Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest. So, you see, Bayern are usually pretty well informed about what’s happening at other clubs. If they don’t take Real Madrid seriously, then I think their interest is just rumours at this time.
