Florian and the (Slot) Machine

Wow, wonder what TAA thinks of the club’s ambition now? Frimpong, Kerkez and Wirtz…
Darwin, Harvey, Kelleher, Díaz all possibly on the move that still leaves money in the kitty for a decent forward.
If they all gel we are could be looking at a generational team next season.

Some of the stuff from Bayern Space on Twitter regarding the move is really interesting, I'm going to post it all in chronological order, I know one or two tweets have already been posted, but this is really insightful and shows how Bayern have got this massively wrong and have been called out for it.

I’m breaking my silence for this one tweet because there’s far too much misinformation circulating around Florian Wirtz, and it’s creating a wave of false hope within the Bayern fanbase that simply doesn’t reflect the reality behind the scenes.Florian Wirtz will not be joining Bayern Munich, and there is no version of events where this transfer happens anymore. That is the clear information coming from those directly involved, and it has been internally accepted at the club for quite some time now.I’m not here to gain anything from this, and everyone is free to believe what they want, but the information I’ve shared over the past week has consistently been confirmed piece by piece, including the internal dispute between Hans Wirtz and the Bayern board, as well as the strategic PR campaign that followed, carried out by the usual Bayern-aligned reporters who essentially confirmed everything in their softened language to protect the club’s image. From the beginning, Hans Wirtz was in contact with Bayern officials, particularly Uli Hoeneß, and while there was a mutual agreement on contractual terms in the event Florian would decide to join, it was never an exclusive commitment. The family had made it clear they would listen to offers from other top clubs before making a final decision, yet Bayern ignored this and prematurely pushed out a narrative through their media allies suggesting that Wirtz had already chosen Munich and would only consider them. That attempt to pressure Leverkusen into lowering the transfer fee was not only transparent but deeply disrespectful, and it severely damaged the relationship with the Wirtz family. What followed were direct talks with Manchester City and Liverpool. Pep Guardiola had been personally pushing for months, and while City remained genuinely interested, the combination of high financial demands and Florian’s lingering indecisiveness ultimately led them to step back from the deal.Liverpool, on the other hand, increased their efforts and left a far stronger impression on Florian and his family. Arne Slot’s tactical presentation, the club’s vision, and the personal approach taken during discussions made a clear impact. In comparison, Vincent Kompany’s plan came across as underwhelming and failed to convince Wirtz that Bayern could offer him the right role from a tactical perspective, which only reinforced his decision to turn away from Bayern‘s project. The choice not to join Bayern has already been formally communicated to the board. The reason it hasn’t been made public yet is due to Bayern’s ongoing efforts to manage the narrative and prepare a controlled PR rollout that helps soften the blow. That explains the unusually tense and visibly frustrated tone of Uli Hoeneß in his recent interview, where he subtly acknowledged Liverpool’s involvement.Out of respect for Bayern’s long-standing interest, the Wirtz family agreed to hold off on announcing Florian’s decision for a few more days, despite being deeply dissatisfied with the tactics used by Bayern in recent weeks. The respect is still there, but the trust has been broken. There was also brief internal consideration from Real Madrid, but that has now faded. They neither have the current need for Wirtz’s profile nor the financial and strategic bandwidth to move quickly, while Florian has made it clear he wants clarity about his future and intends to finalize everything within a tight timeframe. It’s also worth mentioning that Bayern had quietly been working on a potential signing of Juliane Wirtz, Florian’s sister, from Werder Bremen for their women’s team. That move was intended to help him settle more comfortably in Munich. Negotiations with Bremen were already advanced, and contract details had been worked out, but that idea has now been completely shelved. The cancellation of that plan is yet another clear indicator that Bayern themselves know the transfer for Florian has collapsed.

The accusations of lying are coming almost exclusively from Bayern supporters who refuse to accept the reality of the situation.Had I been speaking favorably about Bayern, many of these same individuals would be responding very differently.I have far more at stake here than most, yet I continue to stand by the information I’ve shared. In a short time, the full picture will emerge for the public, and it will also become clear to those doubting who was right. Perhaps then, some will reconsider the personal attacks and accusations made over the past 24 hours.Wishing you all a good day.

I receive countless private messages, Bayern fans throwing heavy insults at me, Liverpool fans asking endless questions. My message is out there, and I stand by it with full conviction. Many of you will soon see that I was right, even if I don’t like putting it that way, because this was never about proving a point, it’s about clarity. To the Liverpool fans who’ve been following closely, stay calm and stay patient. You’ve asked the right questions, and you’re seeing the signs, article by article, everything is heading in your direction. The next major update, which will quietly surface through familiar media channels, is that Liverpool have submitted a bid for Florian Wirtz to Bayer Leverkusen. That is the next stage, confirmed through the inner circle, and once that happens, and once it gets leaked to the media, because it’s important for you to understand that the timing is different and it won’t get leaked immediately, maybe even the last Bayern fan who mocked me and called me names will finally start to understand what many of you already know, Florian Wirtz has given his word to Liverpool.Inside Bayern, like I said, it is no longer a mystery. They are fully aware that Wirtz wants the move sorted, ideally even the medical, before the Nations League Final Four. At the very least, he wants an agreement in place with Liverpool and Leverkusen before joining the national team. He is already anticipating the heavy media pressure while he is in Munich with the DFB squad, and he wants to avoid the distraction of a full-blown PR campaign, which Bayern outlets are already preparing under orders from the highest levels of the Bayern board.Liverpool have moved smartly and quietly, and everything now depends on timing. The plan is to have the deal completed before the Nations League Final Four begins, though of course, timelines can shift, and nothing is guaranteed.Still, the direction is clear.

What you’re seeing unfold tonight in the Bayern mouthpiece media, with reports of the board getting nervous about Liverpool, is exactly what I tried to tell you earlier. This isn’t random reporting or the result of sudden new developments, it’s a carefully orchestrated PR strategy by Bayern Munich, set in motion the moment they received Florian Wirtz’s rejection. Yes, that rejection already happened behind closed doors. What’s playing out now, step by step, is controlled damage control. Each day, the tone in the media will continue to shift. Leaks will become more doubtful, more cautious, more negative, not because new facts are emerging, but because the club is actively shaping the story. The aim is simple, to gradually prepare the fans for the inevitable, rather than hitting them with a hard, sudden truth. Going from “we’re confident of signing him” to “he’s given his word to Liverpool and Liverpool are now in direct negotiations with Leverkusen” in a single week would make the club look completely unprepared and chaotic, almost ridiculous. By slowly introducing concerns, hesitations, and uncertainty, they’re creating a narrative buffer to soften the impact. This is all about saving face, at least in the eyes of the average supporter who reads headlines and not the finer details of how these situations really unfold. But don’t be fooled, internally they already know.Florian Wirtz has made his decision, and he has chosen Liverpool. The people at Bayern are fully aware of this. What you’re seeing now is just their effort to manage perception, to protect the club’s image before the news becomes official.

Now that it’s official, I can speak in more detail about what led to Florian Wirtz rejecting Bayern and choosing Liverpool. One major factor was how Bayern had publicly spoken about him through the media for months, which made Florian feel uncomfortable and exposed. It forced him to shield himself from the media, because he would have constantly been asked about Bayern’s statements. The last time he gave a post-match interview or walked through the mixed zone where journalists were present was during the early weeks of this Bundesliga season, and that discomfort stayed with him.Another important point was his underwhelming experience with Vincent Kompany. Kompany couldn’t present him with a clear tactical plan or explain where exactly he saw Florian playing. Internally, there was talk of Wirtz leaving Munich very confused after their meeting, which stood in stark contrast to his conversations with Arne Slot, who left a strong impression with a clear and well-prepared vision. It also didn’t help that Florian was not at all impressed with Bayern’s training facilities, which haven’t been renewed in about 30 years. When he got asked about improvements, the board apparently told him that the planned upgrade is currently on hold, which irritated him even more. In comparison, Liverpool’s new and modern training complex made a completely different impression, showing him a club that is structurally ready for the future. In the end, it was a mix of Bayern’s poor communication, Kompany’s lack of clarity, and outdated infrastructure that pushed him away, while Liverpool gave him the structure, vision, and professionalism he was looking for.

Guys, I really don’t care who ends up getting the credit, who receives the praise, or which journalist is ultimately quoted as the so-called first source, because that was never the purpose behind any of this. I didn’t do it for recognition, I didn’t do it for attention, and I certainly didn’t do it to build some reputation or chase headlines. I did it for the ordinary fan, the ones who are constantly misled and manipulated, the ones who place their trust in their clubs and in media outlets that act as mouthpieces, without realizing that much of what they’re told is a carefully controlled narrative, designed to protect the club’s image and serve internal agendas rather than reveal the truth. While others waited for official statements, recycled the same empty phrases, and insulted me to the fullest, I tried to tell you what was truly going on, not based on guesses or speculation, but on genuine insight into what was actually being discussed and decided behind closed doors. I laid it out clearly and early, not for applause, but because I believed it was important that someone finally told the truth, that someone helped you understand the thinking and the strategies that are never made public but shape everything that follows. Now that the pieces have fallen into place and the picture has become clear, you’re starting to realize what this was really about. It was never about breaking news or scooping anyone, it was about exposing the game and giving fans like you the chance to understand how things actually work beneath the surface.

Like I told you three days ago, Florian Wirtz’s plan has always been clear, he wants the transfer to Liverpool wrapped up with Leverkusen, ideally including the medical, before joining the national team in Munich on June 3rd, and everything is moving exactly in that direction.Liverpool gave him their word early on that they would act quickly, get everything sorted, and shield him from the noise that was always expected to unfold once he joined the DFB squad in Munich.Because Bayern had something else in mind, and this wasn’t improvised or reactive, it was a calculated move, planned long before any official rejection, with the clear intention of using their trusted Munich-based reporters to surround Wirtz, apply pressure, stir speculation, and push Bayern’s name into the narrative by force.Even if the Liverpool deal is completed by then, the campaign will still happen, just with a different tone and less intensity, but there will still be noise, there will still be headlines, and multiple journalists have already been briefed to drive those stories forward, many of them under the guidance of Bayern’s upper board members. But in the end, none of that really matters anymore, because with the Liverpool move almost finalised, that becomes the dominant story, it overshadows everything else, and that was exactly what Wirtz had in mind from the very beginning, not just to get the deal done, but to render Bayern’s pressure campaign irrelevant before it could even begin.

In their talks with Florian Wirtz, Bayern used a tactic they had tried before, similar to how they approached Leroy Sané during his time at Manchester City. Back then, they pointed to Sané’s difficult situation with the national team to present themselves as a better, safer option. With Wirtz, the message was more subtle, but the idea was the same. They urged him not to make a move that could backfire before the World Cup and hinted at their influence within the DFB as something that could help protect him.Wirtz didn’t respond well to this approach. He knows exactly what he brings to the table, is sure he can succeed anywhere, and doesn’t need that kind of support. On top of that, he has a strong and trusting relationship with Julian Nagelsmann and Rudi Völler, which made Bayern’s attempt feel unnecessary, rude and misplaced. It was one of several tactics used in the negotiations, and like the others, it clearly backfired.

The impression Arne Slot left on Florian Wirtz was unlike anything he had experienced before. Throughout multiple Zoom meetings, Slot presented a clear and detailed vision, supported by extensive video material that even traced Wirtz’s development back to his early youth. He highlighted the progress Wirtz had already made, pointed out areas for further improvement, and laid out a well-structured plan for how he would be integrated into the team. What resonated most was the tactical clarity. Wirtz was shown a defined role within a functioning system, giving him a strong sense of direction and purpose. The entire presentations, which were many, were described as highly professional and deeply thoughtful. In contrast, the conversations he had with Vincent Kompany were said to be vague and left many questions unanswered. There was no clearly communicated role, no coherent system, and little tactical structure. The overall impression was that of uncertainty, which reportedly left Wirtz feeling confused and unimpressed. It was one of the key reasons why he walked away from those meetings with serious doubts, even more than the outdated and 30-year-old training facility, which also played a big part.

Inside Bayern, there are some factions within the board who are disappointed with certain German national team players at the club for not properly encouraging or convincing Florian Wirtz to join Bayern, both behind the scenes and in public. When players like Kimmich, Goretzka, Sané, Neuer, or even Musiala were asked by the press about the possibility of Wirtz making the move, their responses were mostly along the lines of “he’s a top player, but that’s his decision.”Internally, comparisons have been made to the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Philipp Lahm, and Thomas Müller, who were seen as instrumental back in 2011 when they helped convince Manuel Neuer to join Bayern and turn down an offer from Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson.

I heard tell of him on the Totally Football show European episodes.

The talk was mostly that he was shit hot and would either strike with BL as he missed the last international tournament through injury and wouldn't want to risk an unsettled season in the run in to a world cup.

Or join Munich.

So I haven't really thought we could pull this off. But if Ornstein says it's happening. It's happening.

I’m not excited because it won’t happen.
If we sign him, I’ll get excited.
Mate. Even Tap In Fabrizo said its happening.

I agree with you that we've been hurt before.

But if/when it's all agreed. I'm getting my kid a Wirtz shirt.. and he doesn't even support us. Ha!

We’re getting one of the biggest gems and coming superstars in World football. Other clubs fans are in awe. Our fans are meh.

Weird. Very weird
Where did I ever say meh? Spending 150m on a young player unproven outside of his domestic league who isn’t super strong, fast or big is a risk. That’s all I’m saying and I also said I’m clearly in the minority here as everyone else is ecstatic.

Unless some cousins to Wirtz show up at Kirkby ala Fekir demanding extra money, this deal will get done.

Every time I've seen him play (admittedly less than 20) hes done something that's impressed me.

He's stronger than you think. He's not a bean pole. And he glides past players rather than beating them for raw pace.

Think De Bruyne at his peak. That's the level he could get to.

That sounds amazing!

On the flip side it is very exciting we seem to be able to attract the biggest players again.

He’s fast and strong. Pressing monster, wins duels and works extremely hard.
Add that to sensational skills and attitude and you have someone that’s plug and play in any league.

24 G/A in 33 games in the Europa league.
7 G/A in 9 games in the CL.
13 G/A in 29 international games for Germany.
122 G/A in 197 games for Leverkusen.

22 years old.

Generational World class talent. It’s a Virgil and Alisson type signing in attack.

I hope so and they are impressive numbers for a CAM. Time will tell I guess.

Playing for Liverpool is a whole other ball game for a 22 year old who’s moving overseas.
