I don't think you can pin it on Wirtz or Kerkez, the newbies that were selected. You have to look at the set up and how they were being used.

We had 2 cut in merchants, who were completely out of form and failing to create much, convert much, defend much or even hold onto the ball.

Hard for Wirtz (or Kerkez) to shine in these circumstances.

Whilst i partly blame Gakpo and Salah (they did my nut in) i mainly blame Slot for not quickly finding a way to make it work. At the very least he should have dropped both much earlier than he did.

We see now, that although we're not exactly purring, without (the current iterations of) Gakpo and Salah we're getting better performances and results.
 
We are out of the title race because we have conceded something like 20 goals more than Arse. In fact we have been since Feb, conceding more goals. It would be perfectly concenient to have a single player as scape goat but it’s not true. It’s down to our manager to sort this.
 
Wirtz was objectively excellent yesterday. I haven't seen the opta stats and I don't need to. He's great. He's gonna be a wonderful player for us. The defence is a joke. We should not have sold the best young centre half in the world and VVD is on a Salah path.
 
I understood selling quansah if the plan was leoni and Guehi in the summer.

We front loaded our sales, meaning we were always playing catch up and any delays/issues with other clubs would fuck us over
 
It also explains his early season struggles. He's been gaining mass and adapting to how to play in his new slightly less frail form.

He'll be a star. Just a shame it took some time to start

the difference with VVD is, he still leads stats across Europe in a very important area for CBs, his heading dominance. Salah leads only in possession lost.
We can still get years out of VVD if he had a top class intelligent CB as his partner. Konate is just all over the place and continues to show low footballing IQ.
