General UK politics

Over 700k Indians have migrated to uk since 2021.
Both work and student.
How many left etc I dunno.

I'd really like a breakdown of the types of work the 'skilled workers' are doing to better understand this.
Of all the things going on in politics, this is what annoys you?
I’m sure once Nigel and his mates get in, they will fix it.

If I listed everything that annoys me in politics, geopolitics.
I'd prob need my own forum.

Yup, I'm a massive fan or Farage and the right wingers in the UK and of course abroad.
Huge fan of Trump, Adf, Le Pen et al.

People with my skin colour, religious belief and political views would do incredibly well.

It’s all BS. Stop caring a while ago.
All this is pointless posturing while the job market has had the biggest decline since long as I can remember and all big greedy corps betting on AI and without any sign of recovery.

Anyway, actually thought you were Trump fan till last month…

*sigh*

Everything from lunatic leftie, full Trump fan, Jihadi to SJW.

Maybe it's just easy to label someone who opposes your personal view.

Maybe I'm a retard.

I was joking…
Never had you down as leftie though and no wasn’t opposing your view this time.

Personally I’m just bored divisive politics now.
Curious to see how Reform will run all these councils though and that’s not me labelling anyone.

Just to put things into perspective about this whole double tax agreement… UK already had this already with 17 other countries including the US, the European Union, South Korea, Japan, and Norway I believe. Not sure why getting so worked up especially over this deal with India now, best to follow the current narrative.

It’s because the usual mouthpieces are screaming about immigration.

Double Contributions Convention (DCC)

Alongside the FTA, the UK and India have agreed to negotiate a reciprocal DCC. The DCC will support business and trade by ensuring that employees moving between the UK and India, and their employers, will only be liable to pay social security contributions in one country at a time. The DCC will also ensure that employees temporarily working in the other country for up to 3 years will continue paying social security contributions in their home country, preventing the fragmentation of their social security record.

This agreement will operate on similar principles to the UK's other Social Security Agreements (SSA) with the EU and countries such as Switzerland, Norway, Canada, Japan, Chile and South Korea. As a more limited kind of SSA, the DCC will not affect individuals' rights to access benefits from the country in which they pay social security contributions or the requirement to pay the UK immigration health surcharge. The DCC will come into force in line with the wider trade deal

I'm not bored of it, I hate it with a passion.
I'm hopeful - one day - I'll see politicians on both sides being able to work better with each, disagree respectfully and support valid legislation even if their party didn't propose it. Too much to ask for ... I know.

Initial reaction is not particularly well!

These are big Councils with big statutory spends which they won't really be able to cut, but even if they do it won't be until next year as budgets were passed in February.

What I suspect they will discover is that they really can't do a lot, they will leave Council officers to run services (which is what happens in a lot of upper tier authorities anyway) and they will throw in a few meaningless gimmicks to keep their supporters happy, like taking down flags, removing statues and plaques, cancelling events etc etc.

Next year when they have to pass a budget and potentially put tax up will be interesting.

watching Richard Tice at Hull on QT last night, there are no actual policies.it was rather obvious there is nothing in the log apart from be like DOGE in UK, create immigrant camps and moan about Indian trade deal (which the DTA bit Tories/Reform I think were previously supportive of)

I didn't see that, but I've seen elsewhere that they are relying on the line about auditing the books. The problem is that local Council budgets are pretty straightforward and very open so I doubt they'll find a lot of savings, apart from a few minor headline-grabbers.

As for the trade deals, trade deals with India and the USA are EXACTLY what these same people wanted (and rightly so, actually). I'm certainly no Labour supporter, but these are good deals.

The real shame is that the EU never agreed trade deals with the likes of India and the USA, otherwise we may not have had to leave in the first place.
