It's obviously a stupid thing to do, and a politician should know better, but a 40k underpayment, and not a non payment, and not multiple times, doesn't seem like a massive controversy to me.
Apologizing, paying the amount, donate the same to charity, and go through a full audit should be enough. Unless I've missed something on the details, there's been far worse done by others.

Isn't the issue with Rayner that she essentially sold her house to herself and then bought the one in Hove as her only property, although it isn't?
Whereas Farage got his girlfriend to buy the other house, she didn't own another one, so it essentially IS her only property.
So I guess, legally, he is within the rules and she is not.

Well he's obviously a liar as well as being an utterly despicable excuse for a human being in virtually every way, but the point I guess is that he didn't quite do anything illegal on this occasion.
