Why does Greece never produce any decent footballers? It's dead weird.

I can't remember one top class Greek player in all the time I've followed football.
I think it's because they stay in Greece. They've got a decent enough league and they just generally stagnate. Karagounis was quite good.

They've had decent enough players. They did win the Euros, like.

They usually produce good, solid defenders.

Don't think they've ever produced anyone world class, or even the tier below, but they have had decent players.

Mitroglou
Stelios
Manolas
Dellas
Karagounis
Katsouranis
Sokratis
Dabizas
Papadopoulos

Just off the top of my head...

Fair to say that Tsimikas is not the most exciting signing in the World, but he has been signed in slightly crappy circumstances to be fair!

It is obvious he is back up for a start, he was announced just after we apparently refused to pay the asking price for a player who just got relegated with Norwich and it seems to be common knowledge that the owners aren't putting money in and there isn't much money to go around.

It is probably extremely unfair, and the club surely must have done a lot of scouting and research on him, but you can definitely see why it looks like a case of 'yeah he'll do'.

If you search for "boss" posted by Hansern, one of two things will happen - you might break the site or you'll see a list that's 10 pages long of all the players he's called "boss"

Here's a brief summary:
Neco Williams
Matip
VVD
Naby in Germany
Valverde
Ox
Fabinho
Van de Beek
The home kit
Varane
Woland
Isco
Lozano
Shaqiri
Brewster
Boateng
Kovacic
Ceballos
Alexis Sanchez
Dolberg
Brandt
Veratti
Clyne
Woodburn

The ace list does break the search function.

So Brizzle I suppose give the wide range of what boss seems to mean is this Greek lad Woodburn Boss or VVD boss ?

Who did The Home Kit and Woland play for?

I'm going to go with Dolberg boss. 😎

Just off the top of my head...

Let's be honest, it's a pretty mediocre list.

Obviously they won the Euros, and all credit to them, I'm not knocking that achievement. But it was a team of grafters who defended for their lives.

I'm just curious why you never see a top Greek footballer. Like, not even world class, just say good enough to play for a CL team in one of the big leagues. It's odd. Maybe there are other countries you could say the same about? I tend to think Russia should produce way more top players given its population.

Yeah Russia is a big one. But there are probably other countries. Depends how far back you want to go. Lev Yashin won the Balon D'or, like...

I always think it's mad what happened with Hungary... a team full of stars about 60 years ago and nothing at all since.

What?! You're telling me that the "sweatpants keeper" wasn't great?

God yeah, Hungary is weird. And they're shit now,.too. And have been for decades. Like a complete non-event, don't remember them qualifying for a single tournament.

They had a good U21 team a few years ago with Nemeth etc but they just never took that second step.

You have no clue , then make up some bullshit, then claim he'll be good and it's a win win ?

Are you capable of critical thinking ?

What bullshit did I make up? The fee makes it a win win, I think most people would understand that. Not you of course.

Ha I remember under Benitez the club boasted about how it had links with MTK Hungaria and would have our pick of the best Hungarian talent, and thinking.... but Hungary hasn't produced a single decent player in my lifetime...

Wow, you really are claiming that title as SCM’s woman arent you?

I nearly feel bad for you. Miserable and screaming at everyobne, wanking off to conspiracy theories into your wank sock.

Haha, yeah we have had a few Hungarian players over the years, at least two of them goalkeepers. It may say something about the success of that link that the Hungarian who actually played the most games for us is probably still Istvan Kozma, about 15 years before the 'pick of the best Hungarian talent' started to arrive. Kozma was, of course, absolute shit.

Have we ever had a Russian player at Liverpool?

Boss post that.

Woodburn Boss.

You two are bickering like your journalistic integrity is on the line.
Both of you are armchair experts like the rest of us, so chill the fuck out.

No, but Vorinin is about as close to Russian as you can get.

I remember years ago chatting with a Russian person about football (conversation was drying up a bit and football was my last resort fall-back).

I mentioned that Liverpool had just signed a Russian player, and they seemed rather excited by this. I gave more details and said something along the lines of 'well, he's Ukrainian, but close enough, right?'

Turns out it really ISN'T close enough.

Lol, the Crimeans disagree.

There's always that risk of course but it may depend to some extent on whom you're talking to. Years ago my cousin had a Russian girlfriend who was a big fan of Andriy Shevchenko. I told her (in English) his mate Voronin was sh!t and used the Russian word "gavno" for emphasis. She literally fell off the chair she was sat on at the time.
