Derek
Born in Dublin, 1972.
Moved to Boston, 1992.
Moved to Dallas, 1998. Stayed.
Married Amy, 2000.
Andie arrived 02/03/04.
Alex arrived 01/13/06.
Dr. Mullen's VERY cold scalpel ensured that no more are imminent.
5'8(ish)" tall, weighing between 12 and 13 stone. 12.5 right now.
I have been known to struggle with the weight every now and then... God help me, I love my fizzy orange, pizza and assorted junk food.
Black hair. Green eyes.
Have been told I have a passing resemblance to Colin Farrell, though chunkier!
I have punched everyone who has told me that.
And then imformed them that I am a far better actor than he is.
Manage a 200 person call center.
I started working in that same call center 9 years ago, as a customer care agent, and have worked in practically every department there is.
It's like running a playschool, except I'm sure that the children are endeering and SUPPOSED to act like 4 year olds...
Still, I'm moving up the corperate ladder fairly nicely, and the next jump should be to a fairly nice tax bracket (fingers crossed).
I am a halfway decent midfielder when fit.
No great skills, but can read a game pretty well, and can pass it reasonably well with both feet.
Every now and then I pop one in from outside the box.
I have also played GAA (at a high level as a kid), Rugby, Tennis, Hockey, Basketball, and basically tried every team sport that was available in 1980s Dublin.
I also boxed.
Once.
I won.
I quit that night anyway.
I enjoy all sorts of music.
My CD collection contains artists as varied as Public Enemy, The Counting Crows, Guns'n'Roses, Prince, Queen, The Beatles, Tom Petty, Niel Diamond, The Dubliners, Sheryl Crow, Pavarotti, the Bee Gees and U2.
Yes, I'm a huge U2 fan.
And I've heard it a million times, so f#$! off.
I am very blessed to have a wonderful life.
It's crazy, but a kid-fueled, good-kind-of-crazy.
I love America and the life and familythat it's given me.
I love Dublin and I miss the life and family that I left behind.
Yes, you CAN do both...
I don't think that I'll ever be 100% settled again.
This is where I and my family have the best possible future.
There is where I'd love to be, if I could guarantee all concerned the same kind of life.
I cannot.
Such is life.
And aeroplanes are wonderful things.
I love American sports, particularly the Boston Red Sox and the Oakland Raiders.
Yes, you CAN enjoy both American sports and footie, rugger, formula 1, etc...
My passion for Liverpool boarders on the insane at times, and I know how ridiculous it is that I allow a bunch of spoilt millionaire athletes determine my mood from 10,000 miles away, but I can't help it.
They've been doing it for as long as I have been aware of sports.
It is something that often makes me giggle to myself.
As Amy screams at me for waking the girls.
Or kicking the dogs.
The only thing that truly matters in my life is my family.
But of all the other stuff, Liverpool is top of the heap.
Cheers all.
P.S. Sorry it was so long.
