Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey did not know what a Nazi salute was when he was charged with making the offensive gesture, says a Football Association panel. The charge was found not proven this month and Wales international Hennessey, 32, will face no punishment.

Sorry Dantes, the end of line 46 makes perfect sense in today's world ... I find it rather sad - though I try to laugh it off as if it's a scene from this movie:

[bcolor=#fdfbf8]13. Apart from that document and various written submissions on behalf of the player (and responses thereto from the FA), the player’s legal representatives served witness statements from several other people present at the dinner, as well as from Jordan Bussolini, who was the waiter who actually took the photograph in question.[/bcolor]

Hahahha jesus, it's probably just an unfortunate coincidence that he tried to attract the attention of an Italian waiter whose name he might have misheard as Mussolini by using a Nazi salute without knowing what one was.

I shit you all not... yesterday I was walking with my 4 year old grandson and we caught up to a young family walking in the same direction.
"Hi Hickler! Hi Hickler!" the kid, perhaps 8 or 9, was shouting.
"Do you even know who Heil Hickler was?" asked the 20 something female. "He was a German wasn't he?" she added, turning to the 20 something adult male.
"Duhh...yeah!" replied the male. "He started the feckin' war. He killed all the Nazi's by tricking them into poison gas showers."
The kid started laughing manically as if this was the funniest thing he'd ever heard, before returning to his, "Hi Hickler! Hi Hickler!" chant.
I want to believe they were pretending to be stupid for some comic effect, but sadly I think there really are people out there with these astonishing levels of ignorance.

To be fair, people are exposed to fake news and misinformation all the time. When I was about 6 or 7, my dad told me that he was a "Jap" during the war... not very PC now, but this was nearly 50 years ago. I don't know why I but thought this would be something cool to share in school. My teacher, Mr Williams seemed to think it was cool too because he let me go round the other classes to tell all the other teachers.

As a teacher of maths, I’m almost embarrassed at just how innumerate a large number of people are. This story makes me feel slightly better that it’s not just in maths. I’m much sadder, though, that such ignorance is so prevalent and, seemingly, celebrated.

When I was a kid (late 60s/early 70s) my mum had a friend who was German. I asked her, if there was a war, would she be a goodie because she lived in England or a baddie due to her nationality
