Regarding Babel.

Since the January transfer window, he's played in 20 of 22 games. Is that a sufficent "run" Spidey? Or do we need to play him for another 4 years just so he can pick up a touch of continuity?

He's fucking rubbish.

If there were signs of improvement, or even a functioning brain, I'd be up for it and him. There are fuck all. He has gone backwards since joining us, and I want rid of the clueless jeb. He wasn't the worst player on the park tonight, he rarely ever is, because he doesn't do enough to do anything badly wrong.

We could get 10M for him too. I'd almost try and raise the funds myself to get rid of him.

Exactly right.

He's trying a bit harder now, but in attacking areas, he isn't a good team player, passes poorly, crosses woefully, and makes poor decisions. Once in a while the ball will fall to him and he has enough skill to finish, once in a while he'll go on a run and hammer it with his right, but that's it.

I think I've given it before Sheik, I like him.

He's patently a good footballer. He can significantly improve the defnsive part of his game (getting caught the wrong side of Reyes tonight for their goal being a prime example), and should do by playing alongside the likes of Carra, Agger, Masher etc over the next year or two. There's significant upside to him, there's zero with Babel. That's the difference.

I don't think we're in a position to be paying that amount of money for players who can improve are we?

We're not waiting on him to learn how to kick a football Sheik. He's a first-choice right back for club and country, so he can clearly play. He needs to improve certain parts to his game, especially defensively, but he's a very good footballer and I'm pleased we have him.

I wouldn't say he's crap like, but defensively he has an awful lot to improve on, as tonight's goal showed. The price was baffling too. 18m for a right back is something you do when you're applying the finishing touches to the squad. Strange to lash all that money on a right back. I like him, though.

Apologies. It's a Babel thread. I'll refrain.
[/quote]

It's fine mate, I wish I hadn't even started the thread anyway. I'm loathe to signle out individual performers especially in individual threads, but I've had enough of Babel I suppose.

He's frustrating to watch.

And I agree with you somewhat Sheik. If Johnson was slow his positioning would cause an Insua like uproar. He's had a really poor end to the season too, over the last few games.

It's also the case that in the absence of CBs who have some pace, he's been used a few times in a way that emphasizes everything he is poor at. But he is low on a list of issues, and in a better team that plays more expansively, he will be a significant asset. A wierd purchase though, given the situation.

I agree about Babel. Decent game tonight but in the main one footed and clueless. I've said it all along, I don't know why we bought him and more worryingly I don't think Rafa does either. Still, lucky we've got 11m to throw away.

With regards to Babel, I was one of the ones who wanted to see more of him as he can occasionally carve out chances and goals. I hoped that with more game time he'd develop consistency and improve. Doesn't look like happening, though.

I think we'd have to sell this summer to do that while he's still young and hasn't played enough for people to realise he's not worth that amount of money.

Babel can actually be a threat when he goes for it. However, he is so fucking lazy, its untrue. He needs to be fucked off to Birmingham or somewhere

I think he would benefit from playing on the right. Perhaps everything would feel a lot more natural for him. Alas, Kuyt usually plays there and does a fine job.

He wouldn't, he's braindead.

Besides, all the best wingers these days play on the non-natural flank.

Robben, Ribery, Messi.

Messi basically has a free role. Robben and Riberry interchange. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I like it when wingers have the opportunity to cut in. All I said was that Babel might benefit from playing on his natural side and It would be nice to see him have a game or two there.
