Guess that's the issue with translations. Still kind of an ultimatum but slightly different 'tone'/content. Can't help but think that Benitez probably sense the possibility of being sacked thus making this move. If he does end up leaving, he can use the lack of support/vision as the reason/excuse.

Benitez used the opportunity to lay down some ground rules to President Massimo Moratti.

“I need support now,†he declared. “We know that there are tired players and the club knows we need at least three new buys to keep going.

“We need to sign these reinforcements right away, not in the middle or the end of January, but immediately. We have many games to catch up on and need the extra men now.

"I was promised three new signings and nobody arrived. Now there are three options available to us.

"Inter can buy three new players plus a defender to replace Walter Samuel. We can carry on like this to the end of the season, in which case I'll be made to feel like the only one responsible for the situation.

"The third option is that Inter can reach an agreement with my agent."

“I got the message from the club when I arrived here that we needed to build a strong team that can win for the future.

“If a coach doesn’t have control there could be problems. If 100 per cent support is given to me then we can go ahead, but now I hope I have won their trust.

“We need to enjoy this moment but in the future things can change.

“We don’t need to talk about that. From the start I’ve been professional. I’ve worked a lot for the club and I would like to get 100 per cent support. I don’t want to feel guilty. The coach is not always the one responsible.

“The president (Massimo Moratti) said we would sign three players and this year nothing has been done. I deserve the respect for the work I have done.

“But in the future I need 100 per cent support. We can go ahead (even if we don’t sign them), but if I don’t get a few more players, I don’t know where we’ll reach and what the results will be.

“We have had lots of injured players. Something I didn’t like was that with 25 years of coaching experience behin me, I don’t think it’s fair to criticise me.â€

Is he trying to engineer a move back to Anfield?

That wouldn't be soo bad i guess. But there is a structure in place now, under the new guys with Camoli, Kenny Dalglish and a CEO et all having a say on things. I'm not sure Rafa will like all that. But i think it is exactly under that scenario Rafa will excel, if he did. He has proven that he cannot handle total control....even though he has left every job asking for that. For a brief while he got total control (or as close to it as he would ever get) at Liverpool. No body interfered with his decision in his last two years.

If he is not happy about handling a Treble-Winning team, what makes you think he will be happy to handle a bunch of 3rd-tier players, and a owner who keep on insisting "spend-wisely" club ?

Anyway, don't want him anywhere near lfc, once bitten, twice shy.
 
Read some rumours the other day that he'll get the sack when he returns to Italy. Regardless of winning the World Championship in Club football.

Wouldn't surprise me ... He went into a 'terrible situation' in that unless he kept the team at Mourinho's level, he would be looked upon negatively. Granted, the 5,310 injuries haven't helped - but even with the players available to him, he should be doing a better job. Someone mentioned that he'd do better with a small Spanish team with lower expectations ... I think that's about right.

Sorry, Your Majesty, but I think it'd be a disaster. Not for a minute do I believe Rafa would be able to contain himself from working against a set of restrictions even greater than those he fought against in the past. I can't see the new owners going for it anyway, given that the obvious flaws in the squad (and in some players' over-generous contractual arrangements, which the owners have already complained about) had a lot to do with Rafa in the first place. I wish Rafa well, but - for his own sake as well as ours - he mustn't come back to LFC.

Certainly right you are. There is a clear difference between what he wants and what he often gets. I'm beginning to think, what he wants is not actually good for him, and he is having a problem accepting that.

I want someone better clearly. We shouldn't be repeating the same mistakes twice. But under certain conditions, and when there is no one better available, i would consider Rafa as a replacement to Roy.
 
The timing of all this is really worrying me. PLEASE don't let Benitez come back to Liverpool!

On a sidenote, that's the first time I've seen a picture of Massimo Moratti. WTF does he look like?!
 
Obv, Benitez would be preferable to Budgie, but I don't think it's a good idea, or indeed that it will happen.

So relax Bunny! We have Budgie! That safe pair of hands and dignified, world-respected manager with lots of trophies to his name

Rafa Benitez is expected to be sacked as Inter Milan boss in the next 48 hours after launching an astonishing attack on club owner Massimo Moratti.

The former Liverpool manager hit out moments after Inter’s 3-0 World Club Championship win over Africa’s TP Mazembe, as he used the post-match press conference to pour out months of pent-up frustration.

There were shades of his bitter war of words with ex-Liverpool co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, towards the end of his time at Anfield, as he accused Moratti of showing favouritism to predecessor Jose Mourinho and fumed: 'Last year, Moratti spent 80 million euros on five players, but this year he has spent nothing for me.

'I don’t know why that has happened, but it has left me 100 per cent disappointed. I deserve more respect.

Asked if Benitez had ruined the Inter party, Moratti said: 'No, for the moment, no. His comments are not suitable for the situation, but, for now, this Inter fan is a happy man.

'I am not going to talk about Benitez or his future for the moment.

'But clearly, this is not the moment to ask for reinforcements, and it is not something we will decide now.’

Benitez has kept his home on Merseyside and made no secret of his wish to return to Liverpool for a second spell in charge.

Current boss Roy Hodgson is under pressure, after a poor start, but new owner John Henry would be wary of taking on a coach with a track record for picking fights behind the scenes.

If Benitez is sacked, the FA will be bracing themselves for an approach for Fabio Capello from Inter.

Apperantly one of his daughters is enrolled into her old school in Liverpool in january.

According to the Inter forums he is already gone. Spalletti in pole position to get the job.
 
I haven't honestly taken any of this 'Benitez To Return' stuff seriously.

Is it being discussed by anyone not mental? Is it a possibility?

Seems so unlikely as to be unworthy of discussion, but I said that about Fowler's return.
 
He will retire from management for a while I think. He does not need the hassle nor the money. Unless City or Chelsea is available.
 
I wouldn't have him back, and I don't think anyone actually think he could come in and do a better job than last year.

He needs a break from football for a while. The Inter job was bound to go wrong after the treble season.
 
He just seems to have changed from being a top class manager into a walking excuse generator.

He needs time off to sort his head out.
 
I think he showed signs of madness in his last season here, and compounded that by taking on the least advisable job in world football, and one in which everyone knew was going to end badly.

A holiday might be a good idea for Benitez.

There is a picture of the transfer form floating around the internet. I saw it on Est, but I can't remember where or I'd post it.
