I'm confused, I don't know if I want him back someone please remind me how bad it was under Benitez. It just seems to have got even worse and I didn't think that was possible.

Hiring Benitez would be so wrong on so many levels.

Will be interesting if he turns up for the Wolves game though, as a supporter. Roy will probably do a face rub bonanza when the Kop sings Rafas name.

Re: Rafa sacked?

He won't be back at anfield as manager.

Re: Rafa sacked?

Capello to Inter
Harry to England
Benitez to Spurs

Doubt it will happen, but it's fun winding Spurs fans up.

I cant believe Rafa thought winning the world club cup would give him a strong enough footing to cuss the board.
12 wins in 25 with the treble winners is piss poor.

I don't think he thought the Club World Cup was leverage though Andy.

He was calling Moratti out; back him with funds, or sack him. He knew that if the former didn't happen, then he'd always have the excuse of lack of signings etc.

As it is, he's got that excuse whenever ghe wants now, plus a whopping big pay off. Again.

They should do a quick comparison of 'trophies won' by Harry and Rafa through their respective managerial careers then.

I like Rafa but this might 'finally' shut up all the idiots who still think he's God.

Tell that to RAWK, it seems he has a bunch of fanatic followers there compare to here.

Re: Rafa sacked?

i still like Rafa.

Dont want him back though.. but if i was given the choice of Roy for another 3 years or to have Rafa back... id have him back in an instant.

Given the right backing by a deep pocketed owner, Rafa could suprise a LOT of people.

Why would anyone want to manage one of the top clubs? Its a consistant battle with the puppet master who hides in the dark.

No, he's not coming back as manager.

He will probably come back to Liverpool to stay for a while though; attend a few games..partly because he loves the club, partly also because the Kop will sing songs for him and forget why he was sacked in the first place.

Wasn't he saying when he first went there how well he got on with the owner and how much better the arrangement was compared to at Liverpool?

His only ever excuse is lack of transfer funds. That excuse worked with a few people here for a few while but if you're managing a team that won the treble the year before then its never going to work is it?

The only people he'd surprise, IMO, are the fully paid up members of the RCDNW brigade.

Why do people think if he was fully supported with deep pockets he'd be great? He was given a truck load of money at LFC for several years and barely managed a good signing without Paco. This isn't to say that he's a poor manager or even an average manager - he's a very good manager IMO though certainly boring as drying paint. However, what he's patently proven consistently is that he's no good at building a squad.

Valencia knew exactly what they were doing and I'm sure there must have been some in the Board room over there who laughed themselves hoarse when they heard we'd offered him control. We used the old "I asked for a chair and they bought me a lampstand" as some kind of rallying cry that we were going to unleash him on the epl in all his ability.

What we didn't realise was that Valencia needed a lamp stand, Rafa asked for a chair, the DOF bought him a lampstand, they promptly win the title and then Rafa complains that they didn't buy him a chair. Everyone I've spoken to who supported Valencia says there is no way they would have won the title if Rafa had been the final decision maker on who to buy. They won it because they had a good scout set up and DOF who got the right players and a manager in Rafa who was an excellent tactician.

In the words of Clint Eastwood "man's got to know his limitations." Rafa would do well to swallow his outrageous pride and accept his limitations in building a squad. Were he to do this (and I doubt he's capable of it) then I would expect him to be one of the most successful managers in history.

It's being reported Inter's lawyers sent him an email letting him know his services would no longer be required.

Benitez axed by Inter
Former Liverpool boss shown the door by European champions

Sky Sports News understands Rafa Benitez has been sacked from his post as Inter Milan manager after just six months in charge.

The former Liverpool boss was only appointed by the Serie A giants in the summer but has failed to impress during his time in Italy.

Benitez was handed the unenviable task of following in the footsteps of Jose Mourinho after the former Chelsea chief secured an unprecedented treble of the UEFA Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia titles.

The 50-year-old has seen his side struggle in league action this season and they are currently seventh in the Serie A standings, 13 points adrift of leaders AC Milan, although they do have two games in hand.
Outburst

Inter's defence of their European crown has also stuttered as they finished second in Group A behind Tottenham and suffering a miserable 3-0 defeat at the hands of Werder Bremen in their final group fixture.

A meeting with Bayern Munich, who Mourinho's Inter defeated in the Champions League final last summer, was on the cards in the last 16, but there will be a new man at the helm for that fixture in February.

Benitez was understood to be on borrowed time after his outburst in the wake of the Club World Cup success when he called on club president Massimo Moratti to back him in the transfer market if they wanted him to stay as coach.

Moratti has pointedly refused to stand by the Spaniard following his explosive comments and it now appears his patience has run out.
