Hugo Boss

he looks like a better footballer in the two highlights videos that i watched but this is the problem with those videos. but im pretty sure i did see him show attributes i just don’t think darwin can muster at all.

with the money in the game you rarely lose the full whack though do you? he’s surely worth 45m euro to anyone in a couple of seasons if he’s another darwin

Just five teams saw a greater proportion of their high turnovers end in shots (16.7%), and only Borussia Dortmund (3.4%) and Bayern Munich (4.6%) had a greater share lead to goals than Eintracht 3.2%.
Statistics damn lies and statistics... it doesn't show that those high turnovers seem to end in really shit quality shots, which is less impressive. But reading between the lines, it sounds like Ekitike is winning the ball back by himself and has no options on except a poor % shot.

I'm not concerned though, you never really buy a player from a team that plays exactly the same way, or has the same quality we do. Pressing can be taught if he shows willing and has a brain. I'm guessing he speaks some English too. I reckon, if he signs, he'll score and assist for fun with all the quality and pace around him.

Yep, it feels like we're over paying by a good 30million, still no doubt he's a massive improvement on Nunez.
Nunez's figures weren't bad at all for minutes played (it's the misses that pissed everyone off) so a massive improvement is a bit hyperbolic. Nunez worked back too so Ekitike will have to work his socks off. Likely his all round play is much better and will suit the team more - but this is still a huge gamble. Age on his side.

Fwiw it's clearly a big overpay but that's where the market is at. We either overpay for a prospect, massively overpay for the only real deal on the market, or don't get a new striker.

The only reason to be concerned is if we think we won't pull out the chequebook again. Seems like we're possibly into a new era or approach in the market though and our squad has no major weaknesses anymore.

We will sign Ekitike, Isak, Guehi and Rodrygo, bring our spending to over €500m.

Konate will sign a big new contract.

We will sell Nunez, Diaz, Elliot, Morton and Doak bringing our sales up to €220m.

We will then announce that we’ve sold our women’s team for €200m……..or some ridiculous new sponsorship deal with some middle-eastern investors.

There has to be some external reason as to why we suddenly seem like the richest club in the world.

Let's be honest the fee is pretty ridiculous for a guy who scored 15 goals in a mediocre league. Joao Pedro at 60m is looking like more and more of a bargain.
100% agree with you but there has to be a reason why they didn't go for either (pedro or Cunha). Considering how often they get it right, I am going to trust them. The Fee is large but it always going to be when you consider it was slip pickings

Let's be honest the fee is pretty ridiculous for a guy who scored 15 goals in a mediocre league. Joao Pedro at 60m is looking like more and more of a bargain.
Pedro stats from Transfermarkt:

24/25 - 10G, 6A in 27 (PL, Brighton)
23/24 - 9G, 3A in 31 (PL, Brighton)
22/23 - 11G, 4A in 35 (Chmp, Watford)
21/22 - 3G, 1A in 28 (PL, Watford)
20/21 - 9G, 2A in 38 (Chmp, Watford)

Pedro not exactly setting the world alight in a pretty competitive and creative Brighton side. Ekitike has almost as many goals last season (15) as Pedro has ever managed G+A (16) and they're the same age. Agree the Bundesliga is a lot weaker but Pedro didn't exactly tear up the Championship.

FWIW Transfermarkt value Pedro at €50m and Ekitike at €75m, so looks like we're both being ripped off!

I wanted Pedro but that training round bust up rang alarm bells.

Well it doesn't always work in our favour. I mean it was a good job Caceido wanted to play for Chelsea above us otherwise we wouldn't have won the league, we'd have wasted a fortune, and the spreadsheet lads would have been getting pelters from all sides... Which is my worry with this dude, given the only reason he can possibly be worth the amount we've paid for him is that he's the perfect cog in this machine.
This kind of proves my point.

I think times have changed even in this very short space of time.

This time round all our targets want to play for us.

Joao Pedro was sold from Brighton for 55 mill mainly because of character issues I reckon. Red cards, serious foul play and if you remove the penalties he scored 6 goals from open play in 30 games.

I’d rather pay the extra 14 mill and sign Ekitike. Suits us to a t and doesn’t have the on field issues.

I think this is true and it's thanks to Klopp that this is the new mentality. Obviously everyone paused when Slot came in - was it the beginning of the end? Would the stars hang around? Well last season, and VvD and Salah signing new contracts at the end of it, dispelled any doubts.

Now, on a player, club management, coaching, facilities, stadium and manager level we are clearly one of the best and also just as importantly we are well run and pay good-high salaries. I do think the location works against us sometimes (young players and or their wives would naturally prefer Paris, Madrid, Barcelona or London) so air connections from Speke / Manchester are important.
