I wish VAR could overturn that yellow!!

That corner thing is bull shit. Not only will VAR spend 20 minutes looking for a foul in the box, they might spend another 20 seeing if the ball crossed the line/brushed a defender?

Hang on - put the VAR shit to one side. What is this crap about penalty rebounds?? Will they retrospectively chalk off Istanbul?

I guess one benefit is that encroachment will no longer be an issue so the refs have an excuse for never policing it anyway

Yes. Make all pens the same as a pen in a pen shoot out.

Why get rid of rebounds? Is there some problem with them? Honestly never occurred to me as an issue.

I'd be in favour of the other things in theory but unfortunately the entire VAR process has shown itself to be complete bollocks over the years so the last thing I want is even more of it.

Yeh, fuck off.

How will the no-rebounds thing actually work? Keeper saves and the ref blows for a goal kick? Absolute joke. The balls back in play, so carry on.

And any more VAR stoppages and I'll start watching cricket. I'm still angry about that Diaz goal vs Spurs. Maybe it's an excuse to start having ad breaks mid game like in US sports.

Nah. You take rebounds off pens then take them off direct free kicks as well. It's a bollocks idea

Chalk it up to a reffing mistake. Can't re-referee everything.
At that spurs match (the VAR one) when Jota got 2 yellows, the first was clearly an error. Someone on here suggested that a red from two yellows should result in a review of both of them ... I think that would make more sense.

I think the two yellows are different, even if the first is an error. Once a player receives the first player (justified or not), he knows that he is one strike from being sent off and should adjust accordingly. If the player has adjusted and then gets an unjustified second yellow, then that is really unfair.

I don't think we can go back 60 minutes in the game and then say that the first yellow was wrong. The first yellow has already changed the game and the game has gone on.

They'll have captain's challenges and playing your joker like It's A Knockout soon. Won't be long before a games takes 3 hours.

Can’t wait for “Power Play” when the opposition has to go down to 9 men for 10 mins.

The pen rebound thing is stupid. An in game penalty is a form of free kick. A ball can't be dead after for one and not the other.

I also don't think you can go through an entire play of a corner and then chalk a goal off. You either need a quick means to check each corner is right or just leave it alone. At what point is the corner over? Many are taken short and not crossed into the box. What then? Nah.

They're right to review second yellow cards. People can argue what if the first one one contentious and the second is a clear yellow, which is valid, but it's still a better way of keeping all players on tbe pitch when they should be there.

If we have to have VAR can we please please fucking pretty please STOP SENDING THE REFEREE TO THE MONITOR!!!

It's the most ridiculous idea ever. Just have the VAR make the call like in EVERY OTHER SPORT.

Not a massive “other” sport person but I know I think that Cricket defers to on field decisions, American football has lots of linesmen who call plays for review and such.
Is it really that black and white?

NFL also defers to on field decision too. You need evidence to overturn the call on the field.

Of course NFL and Cricket are naturally more stop/start. Same as Rugby.

I was probably exaggerating about other sports tbf but the idea is still stupid. Having the ref jog over to the monitor wastes even more time and adds nothing. I actually think it might make things even worse because he has to do this in front of a crowd and under huge scrutiny when he's already been told he's made the wrong call. No wonder he always reverses the decision, you'd have to have superhuman arrogance to stick to your guns in that situation.

Yeah, it's nonsense. I have no issue with VAR making more decisions, reversing first yellow cards etc. But let's do it seemlessly, no need to stop the game and make a deal about it, and their decision should be good enough.

We also need to move away from the idea of referees being accountable for everything, they should be comfortable enough to defer to assistants and VAR or whomever.

Yeah - I think that was a move to "empower the referee" so he is seen to have the final decision - but it doesn't do that, as every time a ref is called to the monitor they end up overruling their on field decision. Refs need to accept that they are human, will make mistakes and allow those mistakes to be corrected by someone with the benefit of a video screen and the ability to look at the incident from different angles etc. without having to reinsert themselves into the decision making process

Not the same as rugby. Actual play in a football match is 55-60 mins as time for FKs, out of play, throw-ins etc. doesn't stop the clock and the time added on is never sufficient to cover it. Rugby is 80 mins of play - the clock stops and, in actual time to complete, a match can last anything up to 110 mins.
