I'd be mightily depressed.

How lazy do staff at a football club have to be to think the best way to improve the squad is to sell your brightest talent to Liverpool, then set about spending that money on a bunch of top four rejects who won't be all that interested in playing for you and will command bigger wages than their worth.

Do Sunderland have any scouts at all ?

O'Shea is decent but earns way to much for a utility player, Gibson is shite, Brown hasn't been any good since he was about 23 and N'Gog will never hit double figures in the Premiership.

Surely they'd be better off doing some scouting around Europe and picking up cheaper and probably much better talent ?

N'Gog is capable of hitting double figures in the Premiership if he plays every week, maybe only just but it'll be enough for them.

I don't get the point. They won't look like Top Four rejects to them, they'll be good experienced players who've won or challenged for trophy's, played under top managers and alongside top players. N'Gog cost £1.5m so it's not like he's a big money transfer that didn't work out at a top club, he's a kid who did well enough to earn a move to a midtable Premiership side.

It's embarrassing, isn't it?

First Keane, now Bruce... it's just going to be a Utd reserves side.

I think N'Gog can score some goals for a mid-table side though. At 5M he's a decent signing.

i agree re: n'gog. if he starts consistently i fancy him to score in that team

I think Brendan had it spot on when he described N'gog as a good shit player. He'll score some for Sunderland, but IMO will never really step up a level.

Bardsley was their player of the season last year. Another ex Manc. They took Welbeck on loan for the year and now buying 3 subs from Ferguson.

Fucking Jobbers.

Im inclined to agree with Rosco on this one. Ok they will have greater squad depth and perhaps thats real aim.

It was probably a lack of depth that contributed to their alarming slide down the table in the latter part of last season.

The players they are bringing in are just as Ross described them and probably on collective wages of at least 100k per week.

Henderson is an up and coming talent and probably signed his recent 5 year contract for about 30K per week.

Neville has done well at Everton and I thought he was a fairly average player. I just don't see how Sunderland fans would be 'disappointed', Brown and O'Shea at least are both experienced, versatile players. At £12m with the other player thrown in, it's a steal and a good deal for a club with their aspirations.

O'Shea is a reasonably good signing for his versatility. He can play reasonably well in a number of positions. Brown is a sicknote and is almost 32. Gibson is shite (see manu fans opinions), and we know about N'Gog's potential. If he goes there.

Bruce had the tendency to turn to the bigger clubs for their players. First was with Arsenal while at Birmingham and now Man Utd.

Surprised they haven't used the money to try and turn Danny Welbeck and Nedum Onuoha's deal permanent. Welbeck's probably wanted back at Old Trafford but Onuoha should be 'gettable'.

Not sure what to make of this deal to be honest.

If Sunderland were trying to buy these players individually would they be paying more, the same or less?

Brown can't be worth much at all now. Always injured, getting on a bit and in the last year of his contract.

Gibson is also in his last year, is not highly rated but is at least still quite young

O'Shea is a good player and could be very useful but is 30 now.

They are not individually worth 4 million each - Brown certainly isn't - but which, if any, of them are worth significantly more than 4 million, which would balance it out?

It's right Bruce's obsession with his United relationship is embarrassing, I though Quinn was brighter than this and would have seen through it, I think Southgate was a much better manager.

As regards N'gog - I could play against N'gog and stop him. If he becomes a regular starter it won't take Premiership defenders long to work out he is like a piece of wet lettuce, well they probably know it now.
He is far too much of a pussy and gets pushed around far too much for a relatively big lad....there may well be a better player inside, but it's not one cut out for the EPL.
That was the one thing that Kenny picked up on early doors, it was clear in the first few weeks Kenny saw him as surplus to requirements.

regards

GARY PALLISTER chuckles at any talk of his old pal Steve Bruce turning Sunderland into “Mackem United”.

Black Cats boss Bruce has around £16million from the sale of Jordan Henderson to Liverpool plus unspent cash from Darren Bent’s £24m move to Aston Villa in January.

And he has had a £12m bid accepted for Manchester United trio Wes Brown, John O’Shea and Darron Gibson.

Bruce is hopeful of landing midfielder Gibson but knows it could be harder to lure the defensive duo.

If he gets all three, though, it will boost the number of United old boys playing at the Stadium of Light to six.

Midfielder Kieran Richardson and full-back Phil Bardsley moved to Wearside during the reign of Bruce’s fellow ex-United skipper Roy Keane.

And Bruce made striker Fraizer Campbell his first Sunderland signing two years ago. He would also love to persuade United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to let front-runner Danny Welbeck spend a second season on loan.

United defender Jonny Evans, who has been twice on loan at Sunderland, is another possible target.

But Pallister, Bruce’s one-time centre-back partner at Old Trafford, insists he is right to search for much-needed new blood among United’s fringe players.

He said: “It would be good business. Brucie knows those lads have been well-groomed at United and will have a winning mentality instilled in them.

“With players going back after being on loan last season, he needs a few to fill the void quickly.

They don’t usually get it wrong with players at Man United and if you can steal players from that club or get a good deal, you’re doing good business.

“I don’t know whether Steve can afford to have so many players on loan like last season. He will want to build a team that will last.

“Obviously, they can’t offer European football. It’s a shame.

“But for their nightmare with injuries, I’m sure Sunderland would have finished higher than tenth last season.

“Steve is a top-class manager and he’s doing a great job. It was always going to be difficult for him there because of his Newcastle roots.

“But he knows what you need to do – make sure you stay in the top flight.’’

LIVERPOOL are one of five clubs chasing the signature of John O'Shea, who looks set to turn down Sunderland.

But there is plenty of interest elsewhere, with Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa all interested in the €6m- rated Ireland defender.

After 360 appearances for Manchester United, the Waterford man appears to be on his way out after Alex Ferguson green-lighted a move to the Stadium of Light.

But with a host of clubs enquiring after his availability, the 30-year-old could make a lucrative move this summer.

My Sunderland supporting mate asked me to tell him something positive about Ngog. I thought about it for a while and told him he's better than Cisse. I'm not sure he is but I was put on the spot.

I don't think I agree with that. Cisse was pretty good before he got his leg snapped in half.... Twice!

Cisse was well better than Ngog. For all Cisse's faults when he played up front he played ok sometimes looked better than ok.

Cisse was a cunt. A wife beating, shit footballer cunt.

He could run fast, & kick a ball hard in a straight line, usually straight at the keeper. Whoop-de-fucking-do.

I fucking hated him. Permanently off-side, moaning at every other fucker on the park when they wouldn't pass to him cos he was offside. Then moaning at the officials for blowing up, cos he was offside. Cunt.

I like Cisse .

But it has more to do with the fact that I hate cunts that hunt than football .

Sunderland is as shite as foxhunting .

I don't think he was as good as we were hoping he would be. Yes he was fast but didn't have much of a football brain. Got caught offside a lot etc. etc.

Ross - there's nothing more than speculation that they'll sign those players you mentioned. Maybe a better way of looking at things is to look at their recent transfer activity, which points to focussing a lot more on young speculative talent than overpriced "rejects".

Here's who they've bought in recent years:

Craig Gordon
Lee Cattermole
Darren Bent
Jordan Henderson
Frazier Campbell
Michael Turner
Gyan
Kieran Richardson
Sessegnon

All of them aged 25 and under (I think) at the time of purchase. Only one of them from a top 4 team.

^^^ This.

Cisse was decent player, just unfortunate with the leg break. He was also played out wide alot of the time. He deserves more credit than being called a cunt
