NO ONE was more made up when we brought Cisse in than me, I thought he was going to maul premiership defenders, but he didn't. Linford Christie with footy boots, no brain, no touch, but pace top burn = fail.

I believe people were already starting to question Cisse by the time he broke his leg.

I was delighted when we bought him and after his first match it looked like he'd be a decent player but ultimately he was a disappointment. Not a terrible one, as he did score some goals and had some very good games for us but on the whole I can't say I was devastated that he left.

I think we both made the mistake of expecting good players from other leagues to do it in the Premiership, those players that do have to be special players and have certain attributes.
Morientes had what Cisse didn't , brains and touch, and lacked what he did have pace. He was a class player but just did not get the time on the ball that he needed.

I never thought it would work out for Morientes. Too old and slow to adapt.
At that point Benitez was still struggling to understand the English league.
