One player from Liverpool's history to stick in today's team, who would it be?

I reckon someone like Rush or Aldridge would bang in the goals like there's on tomorrow with the current set up.

Has this thread been done before?

I respectfully beg to differ with all the above. We're not having a problem on the scoring front. I'd go for Jocky Hansen at CB.

If we had a Fowler present we wouldn't need a defence. Sure, even I could play in nets!

I'd go for Souness. We could really do with some no frills steel in the midfield.

Branching out from the one player idea to think of other past players that'd fit in our system.....

I give you Vegard Heggem, attacking right wing-back extraordinaire.

Thinking about it, Ian Rush would be pretty amazing for us. Not only was he one of the best goalscorers of footballing history, but he pressed defenders relentlessly before it was the thing to do. His work ethic was incredible, and of course his runs brought the best out in creative players. His famous partnership with KK was never really a proper front 2, as I remember, but KK was usually playing between the lines. You could imagine Rush feeding on balls from Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling and banging goals in for fun. Yeah, I'm going for Rushie.

Same here. Stevie Nicol was a better defender than Johnny Rockets, a far better one than Paddy Berger and, if less spectacular going forward, just as effective doing so as either of them. In fact he'd be my LB/LWB in the All-Time XI - we have other candidates for RB but I don't think there's anyone to touch him on the left. He was the best utility player we've ever had, and also played with distinction on either wing in midfield (from where he scored at least one hat-trick). Playing as a stand-in CB for the whole of one season, he helped us to concede fewer than 20 goals all season, which is probably still some sort of record. Amazing player, the very definition of an unsung hero.

If you could have one player.

Dreamie doesn't live by the rules set by man. He's a lone wolf, running solo. All alone in his own wee world. A world in which an IQ of 75 makes you a genius.
