I see a lack of a counter argument and a consequent attempt to disparage the author. Too easy.

Agree, on so many levels. Tomkins might be boring but he is bright, dedicated and the proverbial devil in the detail.

To write him off like that it's simply too easy. He makes solid points. I find it hard to disagree with close to anything he is arguing in that piece.

Even the comoli points...

Tomayto, tomahto, correlation, mathematical model. conclusions seem valid nonetheless.

No they are not conclusions. They are descriptions of data. The reason he is a fool is because its past data. Its also obsolete data. The club already knew this and has taken action upon it 5 years ago. So how is data from 6 years ago in the slightest bit relevant?

If its that good, well he should use his TPI correlation to predict who will win the league. Then see how that works out for him.

The counter argument is simple. The people on this forum use up to date observations of how the club is running, taking everything into account that their brains can process, then come up with an opinion. Its not scientific or objective, but it is as close to representative of reality as you can get.

Tomkins takes a few data sets over the prior 10 years, processes them to the extent of his spreadsheet skills. Then comes up with an opinion. Its methodical and objective, but it's bullshit.

Does he conclude anywhere that whilst we might not be spending enough to challenge for the title consistently we are spending enough to get top 4 every year?

I'm going to hazard a guess at no?
He does Keni. At the very end of the article he basically says that we spend enough to be 5th.

Yeah, this forum is always in agreement too.
