The Vertu / EFL Trophy has a group stage. Our U21s lost to Burton Albion 0-2 last week but are still in the competition and so is the Forest U21 side. The competition format is such that in the event of a draw, each team gains a point. Then penalty kicks decide which team earns an extra point.

We are one of 16 sides in the Premier League and Championship with Category One Academies invited to the tournament. We were eliminated in the group stage in last season's competition, together with every U21 team except Aston Villa U21s, which made it past the Round of 32s on penalties (17 - 18! over Blackpool) to reach the Round of 16s before being knocked out (by Bradford)..
