Would love to sign Pulisic, pacey, direct, scores goals, and still young, no idea why he'd join though. Personally I doubt we'll sign anyone in January, Milner has proved good at left back and Moreno is decent cover so that area is sorted for now, and Matip and Lovren aren't too bad at the back. Pulisic to replace Ings maybe, but unfortunately I think that's unlikely.

Sule - if available for a good price, would basically replace Lucas/Klavan/Sakho ... After watching Tah yesterday, I think he may be a good one too.

Kolasinac - never seen him, but I assume that means bye bye Moreno.

Dahoud - I'm not sure I want him. He looks good, but I think we have more pressing needs.

Pulisic - looks like a stud. I think we have no chance to land him now, which is a pity ...

Isak - All up for these kind of signings. 1 in 20 shot he ever even contributes to the first team.

Doubt Sule or Tah will be allowed to leave in January.
Kolasinac could happen.
Pulisic would be ace but wheter or not Dortmund will sell is another matter. If he doesnt want to sign a new contract it might happen.

I'd be surprised if we do much business in January, despite the obvious need for improvements/ reinforcements in certain areas.

Be nice if another Suarez was unearthed, but that's not going to happen.

Defensively we have issues, so perhaps Klopp will look at that, especially if he manages to find another team for the unwanted Sakho.
The Ings injury may prompt some activity, but again, I'm not sure that Klopp believes we need another striker.

Pulisic is a possible target next Summer. He has said he's not going anywhere this season but won't sign a new contract. Whether we have a chance will depend on how we do this season (as it will with Dahoud and others).

Of course this story erupting last night would make Brendan (and everyone else here) happy : Aubameyang thrown out of Dortmund squad last night. BIG story in Germany of course. Looks like he had been on a trip to Milan, if that were to lead to a parting of the ways and by some miracle he ended up at Anfield. If we were top of the league by Xmas and looking as if we could go on and win the damn thing then that indeed could be a key factor in January transfers. Us in wanting to strengthen to push on for the title and players in wanting a PL winners medal and CL football. Lot of 'ifs' in that paragraph.

Sakho on his way could well mean a CB inbound though that may well depend on how much Gomez impresses Klopp (or not). I doubt Southampton would want to sell v.Diyk (or anyone else to us) !

I really can't see much inbound business though TBH.

I wonder if Ings injury may lead to a striker coming in.

If Klopp thinks (as seems obvious) that Sturridge can't play effectively as part of our forward line, that means we now have only Origi as a backup for three players.

Of course, there's ways round it, Milner coming into midfield with Can, Wijnaldum or Henderson pushing further up immediately springs to mind. However that's a lot of messing with every area of a side that's performing very well & as such is a big risk.

A forward/Striker in January in that context makes sense.

Depends on the situation we're in when the time comes. I'm talking mostly fitness and injury-wise.
We're good in the forward - striker department.
Midfield seems OK, but I wouldn't mind an attacking midfielder.
Gk unstable but we're covered.
We've got Klavan and Lucas covering our CB's. The fullback situation looks a bit fragile.
Clyne being covered by an untested 18 year old.
Milner, a makeshift left back covered by an inconsistent Moreno.

Working backwards on what we need in transfers, what we we class currently as the weaker areas of the team?

GK - Still a bit unsure on those pair, will have to wait and see on Karius. Can't see Klopp going for anther 1st choice keeper at all.
LB - Milner is doing a great job there, but I think he offers more in the middle of the park, but he might not get a regular game there?
DM - A dedicated DM maybe? Not sure though as I can't see Henderson or the new expensive signing Wijanldum getting dropped.
AM - Someone to take Lallana's role playing behind the bank of 3? Again, can't see him wanting to do this.
A Suarez/Tevez - Not sure this player exists, but if we did sign them, who drops out? Probably Lallana or Firmino I guess

I can only see us going for a LB 'maybe' in Jan. I don't think he wants to unsettle any of Henderson, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Mane, Coutinho, Firmino as they're all playing well.

I think we may end up fighting to keep Coutinho in the summer. If we lose him we may need to have a bit of a rethink because he's quite pivotal to this team.

Otherwise, we need to sort the fullback situation out. A CB to replace Lucas and Sakho.

Hopefully champions league will be enough to keep him, might need to win something as well though.

Yeah, if Coutinho continues with this sort of form it might set Barca etc on alert next summer.
Lets hope we get back in the CL as that might make our hand stronger.

In my pessimistic moods, one of the things that I worry is topping the table at Christmas, finishing second, loosing Coutinho and the wheels coming off.

I trust Klopp to manage a "wheels coming off" situation rather better than Rodgers.

Should it come to that. Hope it doesn't, obviously.

And certainly Coutinho is nowhere near as vital to us as Suarez was.

It is not just Rodgers and Suarez, the wheels came off Rafa's and Houllier's tenure after they came second. I do agree that Klopp's system is less resilient on individual talent and he does have experience rebuilding teams after losing talent.

Oh yeah. Damn.

Er......third time lucky? Wait......fourth time lucky.

shit

Did we even have a chance of winning the league when Houllier's team finished 2ND.
I think Arsenal already were the winners by the time we started moving up the table.

As others have said, I don't see the wheels coming off .... unless its Klopp we lose. And finishing second is still more of a hope than a worry at the moment!

You missed Suarez

We don't have to worry about the wheels falling off after finishing second.

We're winning the league. Did the memo not get out?

In theory wheels can come off even after winning the league (see: Leicester). We just need to prevent any wheels from falling off ever, period.

If we were to win the league, I'd be OK with the wheels falling off, the engine blowing and the paintwork being scratched.

Only one wheel fell off a Leicester (and they put a half decent spare on in its place). The rest of the wheels appear to have been using cheap remoulded tyres
