Job security - arne

Alonso comes regardless of CL football. And as we’ve seen players will come without it as well. No issue. Only shit thing is less income.

I think Beamrider broke it down nicely what no CL football would mean - it would hamper us badly and force to sell star players if I remember correctly.

But it's ok. All is well because we win the CL this year, I've been told.

i feel like you displayed similar levels of optimism about guehi joining too. i’m not anywhere near as sure of alonso’s motivations though.

Not sure how it’s comparable. One gets 300k a week, a massive sign on fee and we don’t move for him.
The other wants to manage us long term

Alonso will pick what is best for his career - if Bayern or City are in for him, we have a fight on our hands.

your optimistic attitude in both situations is what i’m comparing. don’t take offence, i think you maybe like to see the best in people / situations.

I think in time our 2025 summer transfer window will prove value for money, with perhaps Isak seen as a vanity purchase. However with all the players who also left the club and those who remained that are aging….we still have a lot of work to do in order to build a group capable of competing.

It doesnt matter if they are good players necessarily. We didn’t prioritize well enough and the focus on luxury signings has hurt us hard in this the short term.

According to the PL finance expert, Kieran Maguire, we’ll be fine. Which is why I’m guessing is one of the reasons FSG aren’t panicking.

what’s absolutely crazy is that the instant everyone was available slot reverted back to one too many attackers and gakpo and salah also in the side. the very shit that didn’t work and only saw us improve when it was changed.

honestly what ze fuck are the senior management / ownership / whoever watching?

Very good point.
He had to shore things up to stop the leaks.
Now he is back with his blueprint.

That's what I'm wondering.
yea we’ve gone through so many winnable matches and come out with a bad result, now we’re in a patch of trickier matches again and we’re fielding a side that is known to struggle. what do we think is going to happen here? in isolation a bad result against city - meh but it’s so much more than that and the manager doesn’t seem to know what to do.

yup it just feels like slot has no clue aside from “maybe it’ll work this time”. yea the new signings are improving but it’s actually some of the existing lads that are problematic.

At least Hodgson had a load of shit players. Slot is breaking new ground with some of the best players in the world. I've said it before, but he's honestly doing a worse job than Hodgson.
