Job security - arne

A good time for a new manager is going into a tough game, nothing to lose really, expectations are low, and always a chance you come out of it well. I wonder if we'll have a new manager for the City game.

We should identify a manager that has beaten Qarabag in European competition, and appoint him immediately.

That post doesn't make sense; failure to win the next game means his job will rely on the game after that, if he fails to win that one, then he must get results in the next two, if he doesn't get results there, his next game will be massive.

Look, if he doesn't win the first home game of next season then he really has to get 9 points from the following 3 games or there'll be exclusive crisis talks, which we will never ever refer to again and hope you all just forget about.

I mean, how is that not clear?

why does it feel like we’re sneakily downshifting to align any new manager with the end of the window
Or Alonso’s contract with Madrid has a few stipulations like gardening leave and signing for a club who Madrid wants play in the playoffs of the CL.

those things could well be in play but if we land xabi in a weeks time i don’t think so. it’s giving me weird guehi summer vibes where we’re going to suffer by not doing it sooner.

let's face it, more often than not we leave it to the 11th hour of a transfer window to do things, so why should this be any different. I'm not holding my breath on anything happening soon. And the issue is, we have Champions League games which somehow seem to be a piece of piss, so it's giving him an unwarranted reprieve, when really, the league is the bread and butter and the soft twat has got us playing like relegation fodder.

i think i heard a stat earlier that no pl club has ever qualified for the cl with our current points per game, something like 1.57.

its not getting better, its time

If they're keeping him, can the spreadsheet guys at least do one of their leaks to explain why (whilst also doing their normal thing of saying how very clever they are whilst saying they would have signed Messi when Klopp wanted Nunez etc)

The situation is just absurd, really. We're averaging just over a point a game since playing Palace in September. I cannot detect any green shoots in our league form. There seem to be consistent flaws in our tactical set up that are routinely exploited by the opposition. What is it that Edwards and Hughes are waiting for? And if they back him, why aren't we making signings to try and secure a CL spot for next season? It doesn't make any sense.

We’ve exhausted our funds after spending $400m maybe.

Our net spend in 25/26 is 225 mill £. If we want to sign someone we can do it without any problem.
We're just in an absurd situation. Just sack him and move on.

To the theme of the thread Arne Slot has no job security now. That has been clear for some months. His replacement is no longer a matter of if but when.

There is now a growing trend among supporters that cannot wait for the next disappointment to call for change. They are all but willing it. No doubt the hierarchy are well aware of it.

I had hoped that there wouldn't be bitterness and hatred toward the man but there clearly is from the abusers on here and elsewhere as if the guy isn't human.

Trying to follow a giant like Klopp and dealing with tragedy, living apart from his family as well as exceeding expectations in the job initially has been a real rollercoaster. The man deserves some respect but also some consideration for his mental health.

A responsible hierarchy would make a change both to try and save the season but also to relieve Arne from this constant criticism which must be near intolerable.

I think @Beamrider has already said he's at a bit of a loss to explain how we are going to cover this Summer's spend and stay within UEFA rules over the medium term. Even then, his calcs would have presumably included the Elliott transfer

Elliott will move in the summer regardless but probably at a lesser fee. Fulham are trying to sign Bobb for 35-40 mill £, so we should get some decent money.

My point was that with the (profitable) sales we made last summer, including Elliott, we were fine over the next three years (as we can count the profit in our calculations over that period) but once that profit drops out the wage and amortisation levels will be tricky. We'd either need to make more profitable sales at that point, or massively increase our turnover. Neither of those things are impossible, but they are risks.
FWIW, we'll probably be fine over the next three years even if we don't sell Harvey (or if we do so at a reduced gain this summer). But I'd be interested to see whether a new manager might try to find a role for him rather than sidelining him as Slot has done.

Qualifying for CL now looks risky and player sales is tricky given the number of senior players we have that we are unlikely to receive big money for should they leave before contracts end. Planning for this must be a complex matter, I wonder how they go about this?
