Job security - arne

There comes a point where the anger should be directed at the club. Yeah, Slot is hopelessly out of his depth and needs sacking, but the club should've done the responsible thing months ago and sacked him before Christmas. We'd have Champions League football next season if they did that.

I assume the data nerds will be doing some creative accounting now to justify how no CL next season is fine.

Wirtz and Ekitike were fairly poor today too, they've carried us in recent games, but today was so fucking tepid and disjointed again.

I don't know what planet the powers that be are on, but there's a distinct detachment from the fanbase right now. This isn't Liverpool, it's inferior, small time bullshit

It’s inevitable - what are they 22 and 23 years of age? They’re both a year or two off being at that consistent level you would expect from a top top team.

In the long run both will be fine.

As an aside, I think every statistic about 90th minute anything is going to be hard to compare, because so many games run for 100 minutes now.

It's like everyone saying it's the 82nd minute! Yeah. Normal subs used to be 75 ish, for whatever made up reason. Isn't that now, equivalently, later, in terms of football played?

It really wasn't a criticism of Wirtz and Ekitike
I think it just highlights the lack of balance, succession planning and age profiles we have across the squad.

With the right players in the summer, I think we can plug some of that - but we’re a couple seasons away from seeing us move on from the old guard completely with the new group finding their stature within the group and weekly performances. Kerkez is what 21? He’s still 2 or 3 years away from the experience level you’d expect to win the big prizes.

We’re not winning against Sunderland or Forest away. Will he be here after that? Probably given that we seem to not care at all were we finish in the league table.

I don't want to sound like that blithering simpleton Rio Ferdinand here, but would we genuinely be any worse had we sacked him at Christmas and employed an interim, maybe a Gerrard?

Now don't get me wrong, I don't want Gerrard as manager, I don't rate him. But we know Slot is not good enough. That's certain. We're regressing under him. We're now not going to be in the Champions League next season because of him. Had they pulled the trigger around Christmas time we might have had a fighting chance. Now? No shot.

We should've got an interim in. That covers all bases. We get rid of the underperforming manager, give the players a chance to regroup and qualify for the Champions League, get someone in who can actually do the basics and knows the Liverpool Way and identity and gets these players playing something resembling a Liverpool side.

We then part ways in the summer and allow the new manager with a long term vision to take over and we start again properly.

I don't know what these data nerds are doing, but that's how it should've went. Am I being overly simplistic there? Is there a reason why he's still manager other than they don't want to pay him off? Because scrimping and saving on the pay off has cost us the bounty of Champions League football next year.

The insanely annoying part here is that if we as a club had made some grown up decisions after the 6 losses in 9 games. Moved on from Slot and made a change, We would probably have been above Utd in 4th. Cruising towards CL football next season.

Instead we’re now very close to failing that and look a horrendous mess.
How someone can survive 6 wins since September, being 1 point above the relegation zone in 2026 isolated and still in charge of our club is beyond me.

It would be great if someone could make a decision now that should have been done months ago.
The sad thing is it’s probably to late to salvage anything.
Europa Leage football here we come,

Ending up outside of the CL means no Alonso or top manager who may become available. It also means no top targets to plug those massive gaps. We are going to end up just like that mess down the east lancs because we spunked shit loads of cash and about to lose a great deal of income we need to sustain or push on from that.

Alonso comes regardless of CL football. And as we’ve seen players will come without it as well. No issue. Only shit thing is less income.

Creative accounting and net spend over a 3 year window and spreadsheets etc etc will convince the data nerds that they were right to give Slot the full season. As we finish 13th.

I think the manager they want is not available now. Or the other reason could be that if Slot goes, folks will move their attention to our piss poor bench, and then questions will be asked of our summer recruitment. Right now, they are happy with Slot taking the heat with his bewildering tactics till the summer.

I think in time our 2025 summer transfer window will prove value for money, with perhaps Isak seen as a vanity purchase. However with all the players who also left the club and those who remained that are aging….we still have a lot of work to do in order to build a group capable of competing.

As we’ve seen, even a care taker manager would be better though

If it does come down to us or City, who will he chose? The side in the CL or us who may be in the conference league?

They may not want to stick around as we only have a LB, CF and a floaty 10 to show for it.
