Job security - arne

This is a pointless thread. They aren’t sacking him a week after releasing a 30 min video of him sitting with the CEO and DoF expressing complete confidence in him.

He’s here till the end of the season, if not till the end of his contract, if that video is anything to go by.

It's a tough one for the owners. They don't want to be reactive like the other clubs. They have a manager who just won the league.

But honestly, the logic behind keeping him is getting thinner and thinner.

They’ve sacked budgie, the king and Brodge. It’s not a tough one.

They just won’t do it and he is here until next season and no matter what some think, having no CL is a massive thing when trying to recruit a top manager. Which means he may even be here next season.

I’m now resigning myself to him still being here next season. No way we get an Enrique or Alonso. The spreadsheet virgins won’t replace anyone unless they are 100% is better than what we have and is available at the right price/on our very short shortlist. So they’ll stick with him.

So I reviewed my expectations when this was asked. I said 3 points, we're currently on 5 with 1 to play. A win against Newcastle and an unexpected draw with arsenal made it utopia.

Even the stato rose tinted lot couldn't gloss over this one. It's been utter shite. We'll lose at Sunderland.

Dreamy is conspicuous by his absence. I know he said he would be avoiding the place if we lost, but I still expected him to come on here and in his delusion tell us we're going to finish in the Champions League places and win it for 7th time.

I don't think there is anything that could make me want him to stay now. (Slot, not Dreamy). Even if he somehow fluked his way to a CL win or qualification, he's proven that he is just so hopelessly out of his depth in the long term that it doesn't make any sense to keep him. I don't understand why he's still here. It's obvious to everyone with any footballing nous that we're declining in every way under him. So, with that in mind, what are the club doing? At what point do they cut off the rotten limb to stop the spread?

The real reason is the Sack Watch thread didn't get to 100 pages. We are no longer the force we were. Time has taken its toll on us

I'll be kinder. Beyond the DB pantomime act, there's universal agreement on SCM that he needs to be booted out. It's all been said already. We know Slot ain't it.

I guess it's all about who's available and on what terms and when. No point getting a caretaker in unless they can guarantee an improvement over Slot (Gerrard is NOT that person)

I disagree. I think anyone with a decent understanding of the basics, the Premier League and LFC will be an improvement on Slot.

24 points in 20 games. It's practically relegation form. With the current champions. You could let the players sort it out for themselves and have a better return than that.

Well Millie will equal the record tomorrow so just one more [Premier League] game after that and he can jump ship. I assume his player registration just lapses but he can coach?

With Gerrard I'd expect similar tactical acumen as slot this season, but at the very least he might be able to motivate the players.

slot also ran macallister and gravenberch into the ground last season to the point of breaking them or having to give them the end of the season off and seems hell bent on doing it again.

he’s then going to act surprised or frustrated around april time or even much sooner

Yeah... As I've said elsewhere, I don't think we need a tactical supremo. For now, we need a manager who can do the basics, motivate, knows the club and the way we play, understands the fans etc. All the things Slot isn't doing. That alone would be a significant improvement in the short term. Carrick is the obvious parallel.

"If you follow the rulebook, and you have a clear shirt-pull by Guéhi on Mo Salah, who for eight years has been scoring that ball 100 times out of 100"

Just shut up you fucking dickhead.

Slot's going to get until the end of the season - no chance they're putting that Round Table out if he's at risk before May, IMHO.

And we know about FSG. They'll be patient, detached, and use set checkpoints to monitor progress. That will be the end of the season, which, given the death of Jota/injuries/squad upheaval, I won't criticise too strongly. I do think there were grounds to sack at the end of that Nov/December results, but at this point, we may as well just crack on until May and hopefully get Alonso signed.

What’s the point. I have my views. Most have a very different one? I’m very much in the @tombrown and @peterhague camp.

I still think we will finish top 5 but the next few games might put that to the sword.

Signs are not good for winning the CL either if we meet a form team but we can beat anyone on our day.

Is there anything aside from blind faith that makes you think we will get Champions League football next season? Surely you can't see anything in the way this manager has had us playing all season to suggest we'll make it?

Without sounding cliched football is a funny old game.

I’ve seen enough sparks in games such as Newcastle to know we could go on a roll if we win a game or two we aren’t expected to like Sunderland away.

I also think Chelsea will drop when the CL knock out stages come around and even Utd I don’t expect to continue their best run in 2 years.

Villa too could drop like a stone now.

We still have some very very good players in good form in Alison, Virgil, Dom, Gravy, Hugo and Wirtz and the likes of Konate, Alexis, Curtis Gakpo and Salah are capable of purple patches.

Depends though. If we don’t win against Sunderland or Forest the pressure will be so intense it will force their hand imho.

Aside from the Newcastle game - which again was an isolated burst of good football after a turgid 30 minutes - when were the rest of these sparks? Consistency is key. And we're consistently bad. The good patches have been the anomaly for a year. And you have to be consistently good to finish higher up the table...

The rest of it is hope and speculation. We're already playing catch up and we have not shown anything that suggests we are capable of clawing back the deficit.

"Good form" is overstepping it with some of them. If they were in good form, we wouldn't have one league win in 6 or whatever it is.

If we make the final of the CL. It'll be like the New England Patriots in the Superbowl...

Not pretty for us.

Sounds more like blind faith. We are already 8 points adrift from villa so there's no chance of catching them. Tbh the only team that looks hit and miss like us are chelsea. We do have a outside chance of 5th but we are away to sunderland and then forest. We would need to win both to stand a chance and i can't see that happening at all.
