Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

I'd be seriously worried if we pay anything like £15M for Enrique.

As for youth players, if they're good enough, they'll make the breakthrough much like Gerrard, Owen and Carra but we must provide them with opportunities.

The only way for the lads to gain experience is to play them. Its been difficult because of circumstances and us chasing results to give them a run. Kenny has opened a door and the lads are all putting their hands up when given a chance.

For now we need first team players to go straight into the starting XI. Our youth players will save us mega millions long-term.

I can't believe there are no CMs on that list. Surely we're not worrying about 'blocking the progress' of Lucas and Spearing, are we?

I highly doubt we've allowed a journo to get the name of EVERY player we're after, in fact I'd go as far as to say that we may not be after any of those players named.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

We've been linked with Enrique, Cahill and Young for forever though. So it's not like Ben Smith has gotten a major scoup or anything.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Jose Enrique, who also had a year left, has not even started talks yet because he wants security absolutely guaranteed. 'One more win, I think,' he said on Monday.

The Spanish defender has inevitably and rightly been linked with moves away from St James's Park - he has been good enough to rival Ashley Cole as the Premier League's best left-back.

Phil Thompson blurting out on Norwegian TV last week that a £15million move to Liverpool is a `done deal' was denied by Newcastle. But their recent transfer history with that particular club means any promises surrounding Enrique's future will be treated with a tad of scepticism, I'm afraid.

Enrique was asked about his future on BBC's Late Kick-Off last night. He said: 'I know the club and now it is not like when I came here. I know it is different. The contract I signed was five years ago, next season is my last season here.

'I am just concentrating on playing my games for Newcastle. I know there are some difficult things in the club but we don't have to think about that. We have to think about keeping this team in the Premier League because we have to win one more match, I think.

'So we don't talk about a new contract yet and I don't want to talk any more about that. I am happy with that.

'I am very happy here and if I have to continue here, I am happy. If I have to go I am happy. I am happy in England but if have to go to another league and country, I am happy.'

So Jose Enrique is happy. We'll wait to see if Newcastle and their supporters will be so happy about his future, and any implications, good or bad, over the next few months.

If we're going to pay £15m for Enrique, I'd rather we pay a couple mill more for Contrao

[/quote]£15m for a player with one year left on his contract seems to be a very high estimate.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Tiote is definitely a player and a half. Can be a bit stupid on the ball occasionally though

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Thought he had a great game. Very good defensivly and pacey.

I'd be happy with us signing him.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Only seen Tiote once or twice this season, but he looked an impressive player.

Me likes, me wants.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Looked excellent in the first half; made too many mistakes in the second. He seems like a decent LB though.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

BAYERN MUNICH have joined the chase for Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique.

The German giants were represented at St James’ Park on Tuesday night to have another look at Enrique, 25, in Newcastle’s goalless draw with Manchester United.

Bayern’s other Premier League target is Bolton defender Gary Cahill, also 25, who would only make a small dent in their £100million summer kitty.

LIVERPOOL and AC MILAN thought they were in a straight fight for Enrique but Bayern have joined the race.

The fact Liverpool cannot offer Champions League football next season may count against them as the Spaniard wants to test himself at the highest level.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Have Bayern EVER signed a player from the PL?

And Enrique can fuck off if he's insisting on CL football for next season. He was playing in the Championship last season FFS.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

So, a story without one quote from the player himself saying anything about cl footy or Bayern. Van der Wiel is apperantly very close to signing for Bayern, which will move Lahm to the left. Ergo they dont need a left back.

They signed Alan McInally from Villa yonks ago. I'm not even sure it wasn't pre-PL times.

Edit: Jürgen Klinsmann too, of course.

Yeah mate, but he's pretty versatile and been playing centre back for the past 5+ matches for Munich with the likes of Pranjic and Contento at LB.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Its not like Enrique is our only option now. After the way Robinson has performed, I'll give the lad an extended run to make the position his own.

There's still Magic who can play there. Not a train smask if we don't get Enrique.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Yeah- we could bring Insua back for further cover too. I'd like an attacking left-sided midfielder from the top table first, please.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

I dont get why people are so worried about Enrique.
Yeah he was shit before but he was also quite new to English football.
Glen was also deemed shit in the beginning of his career but he slowly improved. He isnt going to be cheap thats for sure but I'd rather pay hefty sum for someone who's quality than get bargain basement unknowns like Kromkamp, Degan and to a lesser extent Dossena. Having two quick fullbacks like Enrique and johnson would be amazing IMO. We'd be harrasing the opposition on the flanks and create space in the middle. Get Luis and a proper winger like Hazard and we're pretty much sorted.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Why the new thread, Roland?

I think Insua's faults were exaggerated. I think Johnson on the left with Kelly on the right is our best use of FB talent. We have two young guns who are looking boss as back up. Should further cover be required, I'd rather have Insua than splurging 15m that could go towards a really amazing attacking left sided midfielder. It isnae rocket science Roland.
