Barca are apperantly interested
[/quote]

Barcelona are interested in Newcastle left back Jose Enrique after a proposed move for Sporting Gijon’s Jose Angel hit a hitch.

The European champions want to sign three or four men, and have pinpointed Villarreal’s Giuseppe Rossi, Alexis Sanchez of Udinese and Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas.

But Enrique, who moved to St James’ Park from Villarreal in 2007, has emerged as a surprise target after negotiations for Spain Under 21 left back Angel stalled.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, AC Milan and Bayern Munich are interested but the lure of Barcelona would be difficult to resist if they make a firm offer of around £12million.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Jose Enrique's agent has cooled talk of a transfer from Newcastle United to Barcelona.

Reports have suggested Barca have set their sights on Enrique, with the club keen to bolster the options at left-back.

But Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is hopeful of retaining the 25-year-old, who has a year left on his current contract.

Salvador Sanchez, Enrique's representative, told The Vanguardia.com: "We know nothing but what has emerged in the press."

Liverpool have also been linked with the Spanish defender, who joined the Magpies from Villarreal in 2007.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

ALAN Pardew says Newcastle United aren’t “scared” of losing Jose Enrique.

But the club’s manager says he’s no nearer finding out the defender’s intentions.

Enrique – who has a year left on his contract – has been offered a new long-term deal by Newcastle.

But the 25-year-old – who is wanted by Liverpool, and was linked with Arsenal over the weekend – is refusing to talk to the club.

And Pardew, while hopeful the left-back can be persuaded to stay, is confident a suitable replacement can be found should the former Spain Under-21 international leave St James’s Park in this summer’s transfer window.

“I’m still hopeful that Enrique – who was a big, big player for us last year – stays at the football club,” said Pardew.

“Obviously, we’re still working on that. Jose’s holidaying, and doesn’t have too much on at the moment, so we’re not confident that we can keep him – but we’re not scared of losing him.

“It’s somewhere in between, really. When you’ve only got a year left on a player of his ability, of course you’re vulnerable, and I think it’s nervous times for us on him.”

I think that's maybe why it's gone a bit quiet all over -away on hols

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

LIVERPOOL will step up their pursuit of Jose Enrique this week – for fear of losing out on the Spaniard to Arsenal.

The Gunners are set to sell French left-back Gael Clichy to Manchester City, pocketing £7m.

Sources in London claim Arsene Wenger has targeted Enrique – along with Everton’s Leighton Baines – as potential replacements.

And that could prompt Liverpool to firm up their long-standing interest in the Newcastle United defender.

The Reds have been linked with Enrique – out of contract in a year – since before the end of last season, when the 25-year-old revealed he could leave St James’ Park.

United have yet to receive an enquiry or bid for the player. However, that could all change now the summer transfer market is hotting up, with many clubs returning for pre-season training in the coming week.

Newcastle remain in legal limbo over a move for Swansea City’s Neil Taylor – who could be perceived to be a potential replacement for Enrique.

But while that deal remains tied up in red tape, reports claiming Alan Pardew has turned his attention to Manchester City’s Wayne Bridge would appear to be wide of the mark.

The 30-year-old does not fit Mike Ashley’s policy of promising, young talent with a sell-on value. His wages – understood to be in the region of £80,000-a-week – are out of United’s austere price range.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Some fans on another site claim Enrique himself said a move depends on Swansea.
If N'castle get Taylor - Enrique can move on. The question was to Liverpool?

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Just tweeted that he's in negotiations. Either us, gooners or newcastle then.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has admitted his discomfort at Jose Enrique's refusal to sign a contract extension.

The left-back has just one year left on his current deal and as a result has most recently been linked with Arsenal in the wake of the sale of Gael Clichy to Manchester City.

Liverpool are also thought to be interested in Enrique, but it was reported earlier in the summer that a move for the 25-year-old broke down.

Pardew is less than happy with the uncertainty surrounding the Spaniard's future, however, he remains hopeful that the defender may decide to sign a new contract.

The Newcastle boss said: "He's made it pretty clear that he still won't sign a contract and that his future may be elsewhere.

"I'm not really comfortable with that, but we will have to deal with it and we are still hoping that he signs a contract with us. There has to be doubt over that situation."

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Pardew is delusional...Enrique knows there are bigger teams after him. Why should he sign a new contract?

Jose Enrique launches scathing attack on Newcastle United's transfer policy
By Telegraph staff and agencies
10:16PM BST 24 Jul 2011

The Spaniard, who has been linked with a move away from St James' Park for the majority of this summer, accused his employers of a lack of ambition and also claims he had been offered no improvement on his current salary.

Newcastle came under fire in this evening's series of posts by the defender on social networking site Twitter.
Beginning in Spanish, Enrique claimed: "The club is allowing all the major players of the team to go. Seriously, do you think it is the fault of the players? Andy (Carroll), nobby (Kevin Nolan) etc etc.

"This club will never again fight to be among the top 6 again with this policy."

Paying tribute to the Tyneside club's fans, he added: "I think you fans are the best and you deserve the best, not what they are doing with the club. Thanks to everyone for supporting me."

Switching to English in response to another poster, he then wrote: "The [sic] give the money I have already. They lie all the time. But is no for money is because they don't want spend in the club and bring quality players that's why everybody go."

Enrique, who joined Newcastle from Villarreal in 2007, has reportedly drawn interest from Liverpool and Arsenal this summer.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Depence on the price. I can see us going for either Perreira or Enrique.

I think we'll go for enrique purely because Perreira will cost a fortune.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Perreira has a release clause at 20 mill euros. So, it wont be more than that.
Enrique will probably be half that price. So, it all depends on who we want and what we are willing to spend.

Seeing as we are willing to spend, I dont see any reason why we shouldnt go for Perreira.

Perreira is 27 with 20 million price tag.
Enrique is 24 with a year left on his contract.
You do the math.
