Julian Ward stepping down at the end of the season due to "personal reasons"

I used to care and get all worked up over these sort of things.

That age is over. Can't be arsed anymore.

We'll still get Jude imo. So all will be well.

(fingers crossed)

I'm not happy about this - not because Ward is some talented dude, I don't know if he is (or isn't).
THere just seems to be a lot of things changing - club on sale, gordon - klopp's bud - taking a step back, lack of investment, edwards' replacement gone after a year and a shit world cup. Just hope the gaffa is around for his whole contract, or longer if it means getting Saka onboard on a free

Yeah, first Edwards, then Gordon and now Ward. Doesn't inspire confidence...

Maybe are going to try and include Edwards in the restructure? Give him a bigger role or something. Wishful thinking I suppose.

I mean they only dump the stats off FIFA into their machine learning data toilet. They don't even watch footy.

I hope we had keyloggers on their laptops so we can replace them with a chat bot.

Klopp is the only one I care about. The rest can fuck off to the Oil FC's of the world.

We can look at this in one of two ways:

  1. This is just another symptom of the whole of LFC starting to crumble
  2. Head in sand, everything is fine, la la la la

Many on here, clearly inspired by Hal, seem to be taking Option 1. I am happily in the option 2 camp

Not sure Hal exists anymore.

Well i'm training to be a data scientist, so if you can get hold of that database, i'll be happy to give it a crack.

PS: I'll probably outsource everything to Binny though.

Wouldn't be shocked if they popped up at Newcastle.

"According to the Telegraph, Howe took in sessions with Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid and Andoni Iraola at Rayo Vallecano, along with two days at Liverpool’s training ground in Kirkby.

There, he held talks with sporting director Michael Edwards – to discuss his approach to recruitment – and academy director Alex Inglethorpe. Inglethorpe was questioned on “how the club have overhauled their structure over the past decade to a level that allows them to overcome financial drawbacks and consistently compete with Manchester City.”

Something needed to change after the summer we had, so a new model going forward might actually be positive.
Depends on who we hire and how we set up.

This is key;

Indeed, GOAL understands there is a belief within the club that FSG's ownership model, which depends largely on generating revenue through player trading, is reaching the end of its shelf life after a period of remarkable success.

Ian Graham, director of research stepping down as well.

What is happening? This doesn't bode well.

The Devils DNA is a UTD account isnt it? Not strange that they think we'll be worse off.

Or that they couldn't even get Ward's Christian name right.

Dealing with this much change in a short time won't be easy, but IMO neither will it be the automatic disaster which too many seem to anticipate. These guys and this structure were new themselves at one stage. We made a success out of them, and we'll do it again.

I follow them because their coverage is far beyond Manure's content. Regarding the mention of "Liverpool's summer business was very un-Liverpool", I think there's nothing wrong too, as confirmed in Paul Gorst's tweet/article today:

[article]Klopp has taken on greater responsibility in terms of player recruitment over the past year or so. While the manager has always been explicit that he has the final say, much of the squad who have been superstars at Anfield were often brought to the shortlist by the exhaustive work of Edwards and his data analysis team like director of research Ian Graham - another who is set to depart at the end of the season.

For example, there were some within the ranks who had reservations earlier this year about Darwin Nunez's suitability for Liverpool. The Uruguayan striker was making a name for himself at Benfica during a 34-goal campaign last term, but it was only when Klopp and his analysis team studied the powerful frontman further ahead of the Champions League tie in April did the club think seriously about a move.

The manager was said to have been so enamoured by Nunez in those analysis meetings that Liverpool's recruitment department were asked to try and bring him to Anfield. That, during the peak years of Michael Edwards's spectacular stint as sporting director, was unlikely to have been a regular occurrence.
[/article]

That FSG were "surprised and disappointed by Ward's decision" + "Graham has resigned from his position & Gave notice earlier in year" clearly shows it's not exactly part of FSG's plan. Regarding appointments, for Edwards, there's Comolli too (although, to be fair, it was the latter who brought in the former). Anyways, can only wait and hope for the best.

Why the fuck are we allowing this sort of thing? The days of Don Revie and Shanks discussing tactics with a whisky in the boot room are long gone. Shouldn't be allowing cunts like Howe anywhere near our club.

A Do Not Want from me where Comolli's concerned. His record with us was mixed first time around, and (with occasional exceptions, Lijnders being one TBF) bringing people back after they've already left once doesn't tend to work too well. We do need a replacement for Edwards and now Ward, but not him IMO.

I mean, for the "successful" Edwards appointment, there's also the "unsuccessful" Comolli one, definitely not suggesting for him to be appointment. 😉
