I think the Keïta extension is this rare case for Liverpool when the club is not being entirely truthful, although you can understand why. Both parties know say that the extension is being offered mainly to protect resale value, not because the club is actually so happy with a player that they want to keep him long-term. If the extension happens, it will only be a temporary marriage of convenience. But the whole “we’re unhappy - No, WE’RE fucking unhappy!” conversation can also be a precursor to a quick divorce.
