I don't think any other keeper will have a more costly game than Karius did in Kiev. Kepa is shite however. It's all been incredibly downhill since that argument in the penalty shootout.

Kepa is fried mentally - needs a fresh start.
He can still undo the mess.
Karius needed to go back to Germany post Kiev and rebuild his career. He's not a bad goalie, but he clearly hasn't recovered (which is understandable)

There's also the massive financial difference between the two keepers. We took a punt on Karius who had shown good form in Germany and it wasn't a massive risk, until we started playing him and we didn't have any other option (other than another keeper who also had zero confidence).

Kepa is a joke, even more so because of the fee.

Yup, ultimately Karius cost us a paltry 5 million. He made a massive fuck up and we fucked him off. No long term damage at least.

Kepa cost a whopping 71 million. There isn't a chance in hell they recoup anything close to that now.

Yeah, was just about to post something like this. Karius was a disaster, but only cost 5 mil. Kepa still holds the record for most expensive keeper, and he's been fucking up for 2 years. Think Kepa takes the title everything considered here.

I don't follow the Spanish league that closely any more so I had never seen Kepa play before Chelsea bought him.
When I first saw him play for Chelsea he instantly failed the "eye-test".
They paid £71 million for a skinny, short (for a goalkeeper) and young keeper. That scrawny kid was supposed to come to England and play in one of the toughest leagues in the world. I had massive doubts.

The great news about kepa is that they should be making at least a 50m+ loss on him, which can only harm their financial position (although I prefer his performances affecting their league position). If he continues to struggle and one or two of the big signings struggle (e.g. Havertz) then I think pressure will mount quickly on Fwank.

Kepa cost them some money and a few league points which even if they'd won would have amounted to nothing. It doesn't even begin to compare to what Karius cost us.

You would have thought by now, someone would have sorted out Karius’ concussion.

Or at the very least told him he’d never been signed by Liverpool and asked him to sod off back to Germany.

There were times yesterday when the Chav defenders were clearly thinking "I'm not passing back to that div in a million years".

That said, if Karius ever took the field for our first team again you can bet the same thing would happen.

On that note, you can see the difference having a good sweeper makes, Allison is always reliable as a pass back, even if he does take the Mick a bit sometimes when in possession, but I'd take that over worrying everytime a cross comes in, or basically, everytime our keeper had the ball or had to make a save.

I really dislike Karius, but he's a better shot-stopper even when out of form. Kepa makes bad decisions, costly errors, and doesn't save anything. It's also impossible to disregard value when Kepa costs £66M more. He's the worst signing in PL history.

In an even vaguely fair competitive landscape Kepa should be a fatal error, condemning Chelsea to years of failure as they count the cost.

Instead it won't make a difference. It's really funny though.

Actually Karius cost us more than £5m, he cost us the winners medal, prize money and also better sponsorship deal that season. Madrid wasn't really threatening until he pass the ball to Benzema.

Karius's save percentage at Liverpool was 68.9%. Kepa was 54.5% last season or 60.6% over the whole of his Chelsea career.

Wasn't de gea Shite to begin?

Yup, I recall that was more about crosses and getting used to the physicality of the league.
Then he was excellent and a world beater earning them points with his super saves... and now he's a bit crap again

Fans are fickle beasts.. all they remember is that howler in extra time.

I think fickle is the wrong word to use since he has screw up repeatedly. If I were a fickle fan I would have forgotten about them.

Off the top of my head.

FA cup against Chelsea.
Conceding a needless pen again Chelsea in another cup.
Conceding against Ings.
Obviously the high profile one in CL.

And how many games has he played for us? It can't be more than 20, 25? That's 4 screw ups, and I could have missed out some. So it's what, 1 in 5?

Karius had some mistakes in him but at least he completely an entire season doing relatively ok, and if he didn't screw up the finals he would be just as competent as Ming.

Won us the Super Cup with a shootout save

Was part of the team who won the first god knows how many matches of last season, rightly earning a league medal

Like Alisson against Leicester, fucked up in a game against Southampton, giving a goal away. Like Alisson, did not allow said mistake get to him, either in the remainder of that match or in the series of matches that followed
